It's a while since I did this but.......take a wire from the non earth side of your battery and remove both wires from the generator, flick the wire across the field terminal 3 or 4 times....small terminal....the spark will actually change colour....and it is then re- polarised. If it is in the car make sure that you have no leaks from the carbs. before you go sparking about..

To check if it goes, disconnect both wires....D and f and join the generator terminals together with a bridge wire, connect a volt meter ...say 20V range from these joined wires to earth and start the engine.....the voltage should rise and fall with the engine speed....best not to go mad though as you can overload the generator......20V max. The voltage should rise very quickly so no need to rev. the engine to death.

If its off the car......join both terminals together as before and connect a 12v battery between them and the casing....it should then run as a motor......make sure it's securly held down....or you can do the voltmeter thing if you have a method of turning it.......pulley held against the back tyre of an up turned push bike with an assistant turning the pedals by hand works..

Dick.
