Choke cable TR4A - SU carbs and fitting new ignition switch

Recommended Posts

Hi All,

Recently bought a 4A and would like to replace the currently fitted TR6 style choke cable with the specific 4/4A style. There seem to be a couple of options: Leacey MG at £56 or Abingdon Parts for £36, although neither is quoted as suitable for a 4A/SU set up. Has anybody had any experience of either of these? I had heard that good quality cables are hard to find and, regardless of cost, what is available tend to fall apart fairly rapidly.

The second part of this question is how to fit a new ignition switch? Is it as simple as releasing the fastenings (4?) for the switch plinth and drawing it forward or have I got to dismantle the car to gain access?

With thanks in anticipation.

No experience with choke cables, but the ignition switch change is not difficult.

First DISCONNECT THE BATTERY!!!! then remove the front bezel from the switch, push switch backwards through hole. You can now gain access to the switch & wiring behind the H Bracket. Remove ONE lead at a time and attach each lead to the new switch in the correct position, then reassemble in the reverse order. Finally reconnect the battery and job done.
