HRCR Maxsport Rally Championship

Recommended Posts

Not for the faint hearted or those with good paintwork - a series of 10 night events giving traditional tough road rallying. These events are exceptionally good fun and if you want road rallying at its best there are a few that I can personally recommend. You might even see an ex works TR4 if you're quick .....;

24/25 January Carpetbagger Rally

190 miles of East Devon and Dorset lane, based at Charmouth. Clerked by Roger Hunt, admin by Graham and Rob Dance, this is a sustained highpressure

start to the season that draws entries from across the UK. www.roadrallyregister.co.uk or grahamdance@hotmail.co.uk

14/15 March Moonbeam Rally* Telford AC

South Shropshire’s muddy lanes around the Long Mynd area, with a few smooth whites. Winner of several ‘best event’ awards.

2/3 May Border 100* Welsh Border CC

High-intensity events using the maze of lanes on the border between Oswestry and Welshpool with a few whites and tricky farmyards.

www.welshbordercarclub.co.uk or iwan@dijec.co.uk

27/28 June PK Memorial Rally Bala & DMC

Some short evening tests (in daylight since it’s midsummer), a halt, then some of the best lanes on map 116. They’re passionate about their night

rallying up here in Keith Jenkins’ home club. www.balamotorclub.co.uk

11/12 July Pacemaker Rally* Knighton MC

Run on the high ridges between the Upper Severn and Teme but with plenty of twisty stuff too. Very well supported event with a reputation for

an all-tarmac route. Email: a.c.jones@amserve.co.uk

8/9 August Devils Own Rally Kirkby Lonsdale MC

Run principally for the historics and always rewarded with a big following from across the British Isles, so it’s a chance to take on the Scots and

Irish. Afternoon tests, then 100 miles of North Lancs and Cumbrian lanes. Overseen by Kevin Savage. www.klmc.org.uk

12/13 September Yorkshire Revival Rally Ilkley & DMC

Smooth afternoon tests, a halt, then 130 miles of North Yorkshire’s finest. No endurance cars this year so the historics take main billing. Clerked

by David Taylor, with Stan Appleton and Iain Tullie around too. www.ilkleymotorclub.org.uk or david@e-Felstead.net

10/11 October Breidden Rally* Welsh Border CC

Same club as the Border 100 but a different team and run a little further south. Lots of tight sections with farmyards and Mick Jones’ woodyard !

www.welshbordercarclub.co.uk or iwan@dijec.co.uk

24/25 October Classic Illuminations Morecambe CC

A classic event now run as a single-nighter but using the finest Cumbrian lanes and moorland roads. Full-length event that takes advantage of

the clock-change. Run by Derek Shepherd and Paul Mount but Fred Bent is never far away. www.morecambecarclub.co.uk

14/15 November Ilfracombe Rally North Devon MC

Derek Drayton and Stuart Wood are back at the helm of a cracking year-ender in the narrow and muddy North Devon lanes where there’s bound

to be a ford or two. www.ndmc.org.uk or derekdrayton@btinternet.com

Reserve events:

Clitheronian Rally (27/28 September, Clitheroe MC with CSMA North West, Lancs/Yorks border)

Hexham Historic (21/22 November, Hexham MC, Northumberland/Durham border)

*Events marked with an asterisk are not expected to have an historic permit. Cars entering those events must comply with ‘modern’ road rally

regulations, eg four cylinders only, maximum two carburettor chokes, single colour or manufacturers colours, full trim.
