TR6 Cylinder Head Spacing

Recommended Posts

Does anyone know the intake spacing on the TR6 PI heads. In the US, the early cars had narrow spacing, and later cars wider spacing. The question is what spacing is on a CP PI head and, what spacing is on a CR PI head, or are all PI heads narrow spacing? Also, has anyone comparted the Weber carbs to Lucas PI, do the Webers rev like the PI from 4-7k rpm? Thanks, and Regards

Hi Searcher Man

If you carry out a search of this forum you will find a mass of information on Webers versus PI. The argument has been going on for years.

Believe it or not some people also use twin SU's or Strombergs. In the USA some even use triple SUs or Strombergs.

I think you'll find that the "narrow port" head is the one numbered 516323. But you will need to research further.

The 516323 head has the larger exhaust valves but the inlet manifold is very short. This leads to problems when fitting twin SUs or finding a decent exhaust manifold that will fit. I speak from personal experience. The longer manifold from the Triumph 6 cylinder salloons will bolt on, but the ports do not line up.

Hope this helps.

Tony
