Hi
My TR4 brake caliper pistons have rusted into the calipers.
Is it an easy job to refurbish the calipers or would I be better getting new/exchange ones?
Alternatively can anyone recommend where I can get them overhauled?
Thanks
Steve
I fitted new calipers with a spacer kit to accommodate ventilated discs some years back as I didn't fancy the caliper re-furb job - all from TRGB and works a treat especially with the servo..

I have a TR4 and the ride height is low at the front and high at the back.
It is further complicated by the fact it is a deep dish rear spring TR4 with a TR6 engine fitted. It had new deep dish springs fitted in 2002 and since then has done 8500 miles so they have settled as much as they are going to.
Following advice I intend to fit standard shallow dish rear springs to sort the back out. For the front I have figured out the relationship between spacer thickness and affect on the suspension height ( following repeated trials several years ago). I have some spacers to turn to the desired thickness.
The question I have is
What is a good height from the centre of the wheel arch to the top of the tyre tread ?
Mine is currently 2cm/1" which translates into about 5cm/2" chassis to ground clearance which I consider to be too low.
Concerning the back axle has anyone got a set of axle U bolts + the plates which go under the spring and have the shock absorber bolt holes in. These can either be TR2/3 or 4 items as I think they are the same.
Regards, John
Can you post some pic's of the engine/bulkhead area please - I'm interested to see this hybrid..
Thanks

Like Ian says we always recommend running approximately half way on the dipstick for oil level as for whatever reason this does seem to be optimum level for these engines.
Stuart.
Exactly what I do..

The V5 arrived today now a very proud owner of OGU 620D.
Awaiting the plates delivery then lots to try out weather permitting.
Thanks all
Paul
Congratulations Paul.
It's a great moment when you receive this if like me you have re-registered a car in the UK that's been off shore since it was first built and you're responsible for the re-work!
It gets even better with the miles you drive..

I was offered a trade card by my local store manager some years ago and use it regularly and have no connection to the motor trade.
As for batteries, I installed an Odyssey race battery 18 months ago and it's been perfect and as with all my batteries I do keep it on an Optimate most of the time.

I have 45 Webers and they are so much more entertaining to drive.
Webcon are a good source of all the bits. I have the Webcon top linkage and Bastuck manifolds.
You'll need the anti vibration washers and a few other trinkets. Drop me a pm if you'd like pics to help you.
...you won't regret it!

hi Mark
The crank and rods were still on the original size but were reground 10 under for to be sure they were all uniform. the rods had been lightened and balanced by a previous owner, so they were checked end to end and all were good and equally within a gram in weight. the whole bottom end was balanced including the clutch ( TR6 diaphragm and AP Racing plate) and a light weight flywheel.
So standard crank then Tony and not billet?

Looks superb. What have you done to the bottom end and con rods?
-
Looks lovely. Good luck with the build.

Congratulations - I put mine on the road without any interior, hood and various other luxuries - just focused on MOT & registration - I remember the first drive and the MOT that only needed a headlight re-aligning..
Great times lie ahead!

There was discontent recently here for a TR4a that was should we say offered below market price as it turns out for perfectly good reason. My mate bought it and it's a good car despite the sceptisism.
Now we have discontent for higher prices. Seems there is no happy medium.

Well he's home with the new wheels...

Tom - you already met him at Cadwell....

...bought by a friend of mine who will be along here in due course.
All above board and my friend is chuffed to bits with his purchase - you need to be quick to grab these!!

Folks
I have a set of balanced Con rods that I don't need (I've got the Max Speed ones in mine now).
Anybody need a set?
Cheers

I've got SU's and want to change to webers so if you want to change let me know. My SU's do have different needles as engine is reasonably warm! - but I expect your car is not standard if someone has previously put webers on it
Len
I did the same - wise choice.

Keep the Webers!!

4a looks nicer in my opinion both inside and out, but for sure the solid axle has is advantages.
If I were doing it again I'd do a 5, but that doesn't really help much.
I'm near Cambridge if you'd like a ride in a 4a albeit some what improved from standard. I'm also 20mins from TRGB so you could if they have one try the live axle 4..

As Cilla has said Suprise Suprise
Cheers
Mike.
If I remember correctly, the next line in the song is "when the unexpected hits you between the eyes"

Oh how wrong I was.......
Liner #2 turns out to be .005" shorter than the other three and only showed itself at the higher engine temps...
So it's a re-build and a 7psi cap!
