  1. Thanks for the replies guys....

As Andy has realised im In Perth, Western Australia, but its always good to get suppliers elsewhere in the world etc if locally I cant get the part!

Andy..I was in Dave's(Markich) workshop the other week picking up a replacement alternator, I should have asked then, but good to know Coventrys can sort me out with the PVC line.

I`ll check Pirtek and Enzed as they are nearby, but Ive found that 'generally' they are more expensive than just buying a replacement (its only $20USD + postage)for the likes of us, the general public. Im sure a trades person could get it made much cheaper.

    BTW..love the blog.

  2. Hoping someone can help.

Ive noticed one of my injector lines (going from the metering unit to injector) has been shortened and is tight across the motor. Id like to replace this line, but it would seem that Rimmerbros only has the braided lines as a replacement.

Does anyone know if plain old PVC air line piping will work? Given its high pressure qualities, Im seeing if theres a cheap way to fix the line without having to buy a whole new braided set.

While Im at it, does anyone know the thread size for the high pressure line that goes from the outlet on the Lucas fuel pump to the PRV T-Piece?

Reason Im asking is the local hardware store sells braided PVC high pressure lines (I think intended for water) and was thinking it could be an inexpensive way to replace my perished lines (also its not available from Rimmerbros at the moment).

    Any help most appreciated

  3. Another fellow Aussie! (where abouts by the way?)

I cant comment on the actual wiring of your pump, but from the wiring diagram, its pretty simple...switched +12VDC (from the ignition) and ground....go and stop.

I do know (I assume you have the original Lucas pump still?) that they suffer badly from vapour lock (where the pump gets too hot) as (if you believe some articles) the motor is a windscreen wiper motor (designed for stop/start) popped on the top of a pump..and of course gets hot running all the time. In the later versions they even wound the fuel lines around the motor in an attempt to cool the motor!...I cant see this working as Im sure all this did was heat the fuel even more!

Worth adding as well, the 'performance' of the pump suffers badly with bad wiring..they seems to like a strong 12 or more volts to keep them running at the correct pressure.

So..Id check the wiring first. A multimeter at the pump terminals and check the volts.

Secondly, see if this only happens on hot days (i.e is it better in the cooler evenings), this would almost definitely point to vapour locks, and so if this is the case, you may want to investigate the Bosch pump upgrade.

Someone may correct me if any of the above are wrong, but I believe most of these points are well documented, and being in a hot country (especially this time of year) heat problems are going to raise their heads!

    Hope it helps

  4. Dave,

Thats the strange thing. The switch fits the cutout in the wood dash perfectly, but behind it I can see the metal plate, which makes the hole the switch needs to sit in too small.

From what I can tell, the switch I have would never fit if the metal plate is there, as it seems to provide a frame or a mounting point for another type of switch?

Here you can see it fitted (but it doesnt hold in)

Here you can see its the right size for the dash cutout

And here (hopefully) you can see the plate..and hopefully how the switch is too deep to be able to fit correctly

    Tony,

Funny, as it was a few of your posts (think someone linked something to your restoration on 6-pack.org) and then your website that lead me to here! Your restoration looks incredible, and the attention to detail looks 1st class!

Thanks for the kind offer, I`ll try to get some time in the next week or so and drop you an e-mail. At the moment im trying to juggle work, wife and 2 children under 2! unfortunately 24hours a day just isnt enough sometimes, so the TR 'tinkering' is the first on the list to get postponed!

  5. Hi all,

First post, but have been a member of 6-pack for a few weeks after purchasing my 69 TR6 PI (150HP).

I should add Im in Perth, Western Australia, so unfortunately parts are tricky (although not impossible) to get easily.

Anyway, I purchased a replacement windscreen wiper switch from Rimmerbros (originally wanted item 151431, but NLA) so ended up getting 158453 ( http://www.rimmerbros.co.uk/Item--i-158453 )

Anyway, wired it up, all works electrically perfect, but I cant for the life of me get it to sit in the dash gap properly!. I can see the original 'plate' (item #72 ~ http://www.rimmerbros.co.uk/ImagePopUp.aspx?i=GRID006871 ) but its been cut about and generally hacked to get something else to fit.

Can someone please advise if I need item 71 (Escutcheon - rocker switch)? and do I need to remove this plate?...and if so is there an easy way without having to remove the dash fascia?

Thanks in advance for any help/advise.

    Andrew
