  1. I remember after too many fast standing starts, I broke off two or three teeth off my crown wheel! my local garage at the time who rebuilt the diff asked "Would sir like Back lash or Whine?" I preferred 'Wine' I said! After a while I settled for a recon diff!

  2. Over 50+ yrs of ownership I've gotten fed up changing gaskets...so I just let the bugger drip! I have three drip trays strategically placed and spaced in my garage for Engine, Gearbox and Diff! I remember asking a Ford Model T owner once how often he changed his oil? Every day sir was his reply! :D

  3. I never jack up just one corner these days...I jack up both sides together to save straining and stressing a 53 year old frame. Also never sit with your foot on the clutch for longer than necessary, or bang it through the gears, or your standard white metal Thrust Washers will get too worn or crushed and drop out! (Been there done that!) Add an extra solderless nipple after the pinch screw on the bonnet cable release, or better still add an additional emergency cable!  Add an on/off switch on your ignition cable under the dash as an anti theft foil! ;)

  4. A new friend came for his ride in my TR6 (witch has standard 165 tyres, and rear lever shocks) and remarked how smooth and comfortably it rode over bumps and speed humps, unlike his Turbo Porsche which has a really hard bumpy ride due to it's low profile tyres, and his Morgan 4/4 too which has a solid back axle! Awful rides!

  5. Modern restoration and paint shops do little if no research at all into how the cars were when new. Few are probable not bothered by such details! I see many cars where the stainless strips are not replaced, and no Black stonechip paint applied on the sills (US Rockers)

  6. Spin on Oil Filter (The TR Shop one that doesn't leak!)

    Bronze Thrust Washers.

Cooling Coil on your Lucas Fuel Pump.

14 inch steering wheel with a short boss.

Solderless nipple after pinch bolt on Bonnet release cable.

Stainless steel exhaust system (factory pattern)

    Hand Brake lever extenders.

Water Temperature Gauge with numbers on.

And If you do have Wire Wheels? Fit modern ones that are sealed that don't require inner tubes!

  7. So, as it's no longer a 'Historic Vehicle' by DVLA definition you have to pay annual Car Tax I assume, so how do the DVLA calculate it, from the MOT emissions? if so what does it cost annually just out of interest?

  8. I spotted errors on repro VIN plates...early BS numbered ones stated the early cars were manufactured by Leyland. I pointed it out to the makers, who hopefully have amended their early plates to read only Standard Triumph.

  9. I put back my old points and restored the spark...so must conclude it was a failed (Chinese?) Condenser! It started up on 5 cylinders, felt the fuel line to find which injector wasn't squirting, replaced it with a fresh one and it became a 'Sixer' once again! Took it for a blast and all was restored...until the next time then my fickle friend!

  10. So, I refitted my old original Points and found the Spark and started the engine ok. So it was the Condenser at fault? The RAC man changed the points at the same time and assembled it incorrectly! He should have just changed one item at a time!

  11. My early Pi car had been running perfectly these last two years after M/U & Distributor refurb, 6 new injectors and plugs, until yesterday! 5 miles into a run, stopped at lights, pulled away with a misfire that rapidly turned into fart box! Pulled into a layby and found Sooted up plugs and a weak spark at the Points which disappeared completely as I adjusted them! Two classic cars pulled up to offer assistance after I had called the RAC, they kindly returned with a new Coil, Condenser and Points, which we got the RAC man to fit...None of these did the trick and the RAC towed me home! What happened and where's the Spark gone?

  12. The boss on my original 69 cars standard wheel was much RSCN8630.thumb.JPG.9d35b82fdd484eb6649ea788dede8fe7.JPGtoo deep, so I fitted a 14" MOMO wheel that had a similar appearance to the original 15" wheel. The boss is much shorter and I shortened the horn push to suit it.
