  1. I would say that seams like a "come and buy me" marketing tactic.........

I have also spotted 2 other TR5's at Anglia Car Auctions in August....one with an estimate of £22,000 - £27000 and one no reserve!

I'll try and post a link but not sure if it will work as I am a computer caveman!

And this is the No Reserve one - looks decent but **** pictures, quite an early car though!

Does anyone know anything about them? I wouldn't mind another little project ha ha

  2. I expect the only way to prove its identity is to check its com numbers with Roger Ferris who is the TR 5 Registrar.

CP xxx is TR5 CD xxx is TR250

Surely the buyer would check it out before coughing up nearly £ 43K

    Rex

The chassis number is CD 1762 L

I rest my case your honour........

Do you think the advert might be leaning towards a TR5 because they are worth considerably more than a TR250!!!

Money is the route of all evil.....

  3. Oh Dear. I would never leave a TR outside, especially with a cover on, the cover will make the car will sweat and depending on the primer used under the paint may cause the dreaded "micro blistering"

Probably the quickest way to de-value a classic car is to leave it outside under a cover......can't you find any local dry storage?

  4. I think Triumph Racing Green was also know as Conifer Green around that time.....and the DVLA just call it Green

And Towergate now do not discriminate between original LHD and RHD cars - they value them the same and quite rightly so.

Some Californian Black Plate cars are worth more I think.

  5. My TR4A had an interesting history and now has overdrive, surrey top and wire wheels although it never came out of the factory with overdrive or wires, It was rebuilt and it is in superb condition. I have got an agreed value on the car at £29000 and it was originally shipped to the US as a LHD car. In some ways the LHD cars are better because they haven't suffered as badly from tin worm. The DVLA have been known to make absolute blinders with some logbooks / V5s so it may well be a problem with the DVLA. My car had the wrong engine number detailed as someone had taken the wrong numbers from the cylinder head assuming it was the engine number.

I had to provide 4 photographs of my car to Towergate including 2 of the outside one of the engine bay and one of the interior. The values I see are mostly based on the condition of the car and whether it has been rebuilt and to what standard etc.

If it is a TR4A then prices have gone silly because TR5 prices are through the roof. The most expensive one I have seen recently was £39,995 with Camberley Marine in Hampshire. I don't know what you've paid but a decent usable car seems to fetch £15000 - £20,000 and restored cars between £25000 and £30000 maybe a bit more with dealers.

I would buy based on current condition. I would rather have a lovely car with a slightly sketchy history than a genuine UK car that is rusting from the inside out!!

  6. its no problem ntc Conrad was just trying to help me with the car decision to travel to see the car as its a little way away from me,

I dont mind a full resto jobby as long as its a genuine TR5, which I think it is, but I think its got the wrong grille (TR4A) and its been off road an awful long time...

The chassis and engine numbers seem to match a genuine 5

  7. I have been looking for a TR5 or TR250 to restore for a while now with no luck.

I recently spotted a car at anglia car auction in king's lynn with no reserve.

I called them and they told me it is a genuine TR5...

does anybody know anything about this car they have given me the chassis number of CP2459O and engine number CP2576E so that looks about right for a TR5 but I dont know the registration number yet.

I'm not that familiar with auctions and no reserves specifically but what is the car worth realistically...

I was thinking maybe £6-£7k is that realistic

    Any help much appreciatted

I will try and post the link http://www.angliacarauctions.co.uk/classic-auctions/saturday-5th-april-2014.aspx the auction is the 5th april

  8. I have been looking for a TR2 for a little while and have stumbled across this car at Anglia Car Auctions....does anyone recognised it? or know anything about it - the reserve looks quite sensible for the condition, obviously haven't seen it in the flesh but it may be worth having a closer look, not sure if this is the right section to post in but will post in TR2 / 3A section as well, thanks in advance......(Have a TR6 currently so know a bit about rusty areas, inner wings etc... but no expert)

This is the link (I hope)

Any help would be greatly appreciated...

  9. Mine started to rust along the seams of the rear wings first, the only way to inspect this area properly is to take the boot trim kit out and shine a powerful torch up the inside of the inner rear wings either side of the petrol tank. It then started to bubble around both sides of the front valance where it joins the front wings at the lowest point. Then the B posts where it meets the rear wing (there is a hidden fold) .......My advice would be to pay for a proper specialist inspection (a TR person) - If you try and do it yourself and you dont know enough about TR's then you're asking for trouble.....there are lots of hidden areas on a TR that you need to look at carefully - Try looking right up the back of the dashboard where the plenum chamber drains - sometimes they are peppered with holes and you'll only find this out when it rains and your socks get very wet.......

  10. I would avoid a heritage shell car at all costs.....the one I bought in the 90's started to rust and bubble about 12 months after being painted mainly between the seams / wings where there was little or none of the black electrophroical primer paint. If you don't get the car professionally inspected you may be asking for trouble with a capital T....... where is the car located? perhaps you could get a professional or TR register member to inspect it.....If you dont know where to look for the problem areas you will get caught out!! You have been warned..
