  1. Hi Inge,

This has certainly been discussed before but so has everything else. We may as well close the forum if we just reply 'discussed before'.

To get back to your question and hopefully instigate a healthy debate amongst the newer forum members who aren't aware of this subject, there is no reason it couldn't be done. As Ade mentioned, the plenum has to have a secure fixing. You are probably aware that I did indeed use a single butterfly on my car but that was using EFT (electronic fuel injection for the newbies). I have since gone back to individual butterflies with K&N filters on. I like the sound that the intakes make..very similar to Webers.

I don't have many challenges balancing my butterflies as I have fitted a throttle linkage of my own design. You will need a butterfly in the region of 50 - 55 mm in diameter and a Ford one would work well. Let us know how you go....then start looking at EFI... :D

    Cheers

  2. I got the 'white chassis' idea from the TR4 race team. When Triumph were racing many moons ago, they painted their chassis white for the same reason. Don't forget to Waxoyl the chassis Dave before you start building it up but AFTER you have painted it.

Tony (not sure about being smarter)

  3. If you value the cars occupants safety please spare about £60 and fit an alloy rear of cockpit firescreen to supplement the 3mm bit of cardboard that was considered suitable to keep 10 gallons of burning petrol from crisping the driver and passenger.

Very good safety mod that is not noticeable but when you've fitted one even (especially) on a road car gives you that good feeling that accompanies having done something sensible.

Totally agree Mick, if done correctly it will also stiffen the body/chassis.

  4. Clarkey, I rebuilt my diff and there was a slight whine when I first ran it, (there was a big whine when I spent money on it from my wife... :D.). The whine has now gone (wife is still here though), bedding in did the trick (the diff not the wife).

    Cheers

  5. I see that you have all avoided answering the question. I would like to hear the answer too !

Pete - don't you need to "bolt on" a US TR6 head too - isn't a CP compression at 9.5 too high for supercharger ?

I am steadily building a "fast road" engine - for me this means a well built standard engine with an extractor type exhaust and a rebuilt head, ported and with better shaped valves. Steel lightened flywheel, All balanced, original crank and probably a standard tr5/cp cam shaft. Set up on a rollin road by someone who knows what they are doing with a pi unit. Aim is to get near to the "standard" hp. Fast enough for me....it will take me forever.

That in my book comes under 'Fast road car'. Still very drivable in traffic but not as expensive as a race built engine.

    Cheers
