It's been a few years since I waded into this topic and eventually bought a set of Michelin XZX (165R15), which I have been very happy with. Years ago I had the XAS Michelin's - loved those - but now people are telling me to look at Block, and the other one (begins with a V - horrible memory:)
Anyway, I do a fair bit of driving on the motorway when I take the car out. But I don't do over 3k a year. Car is garaged most of the time.
So suggestions welcome, please. I've got to install on/near London and have been quoted around £950 for five XZX, tubes, mounting etc.
If I do buy Michelin again - what are the arguments for XAS (nearly twice the price) vs XZX?
Also, as I need tubes, I've heard you can get fancy with those? (stronger, thicker etc....)

I am rubbish at this but searched the Internet and could not find the number of TR4A's exported to the US. I'd also like to know how many are still on the road there. I know DVLA says around 750 on the road here....but that number is probably a guess, too. Authority help wanted!

Just make sure you haven't put a chrome sleeve over your carbs to make them look better - I did that on my Morris once; it seemed fine but consistent slight pressure from the sleeve on the cap always saw it unscrewed after a week.

Thanks for the suggestions - I have my original which I may strap on to double check. I will also order new rotor and cap just in case....!

Had some problems with random backfires over the last few days. Even happened on a rolling road. Two in sequence then runs fine for an hour. Later today four in a row. I've got 123 electronic ignition and a Lucas sports coil, but it's dated 6/90. Dist and rotor look fine, all connections too. Wonder if the coil is dying and if so where can I source another here in London? Should I try for a lucas sport (which is what I have now) or go for something else. And, of course, hope that this solves things!

Oh gee Roger - thanks for the advice but gee sounds very fiddly. I will endeavor shortly (or when have a passenger complain again!) and report back...

Ok - I assume I access by taking off the inside door panel? Sorry just haven't worked on these bits before so just excuse the ignorance! Are new barrels obtainable?

Not sure what to do - I have a great chrome door handle but the key occasionally twirls around in the slot and sometimes it works but mostly doesn't. Can this be rebuilt? I think it's original and wonder if I can take it apart and fix it.....?

I can attest to a 4.1 diff on my '66 USA TR4A IRS. I had it rebuilt here (London) and was offered the UK lower gear diff as a substitute (better motor way mileage and smoother running was the selling point). I drove it for a few days and took it back to have my original rebuilt and reinstalled. The lower geared diff "lugged" at low speeds (IMO).
My heritage certificate states that my car had overdrive as original (and I still have it - certificate and overdrive) so the higher gearing as original makes sense.

Wondering if anyone has seen a set for the 4-A (clip on - I guess, at the windscreen posts). Have seen them for the TR-3, but not for the 4

Ok, maybe I will try license plate led's and tail light leds.... seems weird to have to replace a whole "series". Why don't the distributors tell you that?

I heard about the number plate bulbs - I think I am supposed to take them out and reverse them!

I bought two LED negative earth RED brake lights. Look great in the running light position but when I hit the brakes, they go out! I switched them, and same issue. Ok, I must be doing simple, wrong. Suggestions welcome.

Yes, I think the frame is bent. Seat "looks" normal from all angles except the front one. Sadly, I don't have any earlier pictures, but I've owned the car for over 30 years and I think I would have noticed! I'm thinking I'll bring it back to the guys that outsourced it (I'm a steady customer) and see if they can work with their specialist. I may have a bit of leverage. On the other hand, when the seats originally came back, I was £500 poorer and they hadn't even done a decent job on the leather (which they did not replace), or the small slits in it - and I had asked.
So, cause a stink for work from someone who doesn't seem very good in the first place, or find a specialist whom people really like. I'm open to recommendations. I wonder if Skinner's knows anyone. They did a great job on my top......

Can't do because of the fit - they are distinctly right and left seats.

First off - I apologise for the photo, but I think you can see it. About a year and a half ago I sent out my seats to be restuffed (new foam sets and diaphragms). They came back ok - meaning, the scuffs were still there and I was hoping the slit in the leather cover would be attended to - but no - so I lived with it. A few months later, while walking in front of the car, I noticed the passenger seat tilt way off - never there before. But - and the funny part is - you would never notice if you were in the car, or sitting next to it. It's completely stable on the track, right set of washers, etc etc. I can only guess this is a severely bent frame but even sitting in the seat you don't notice.
I took it back when I had my annual service (my shop sends stuff like this out) and asked to have it looked at. The service was done, but they "didn't have time"
I guess I have to take this to a specialist and leave it to be sorted. I'd appreciated any recommendations in the London area or an hour out. Or does anyone think the seat was poorly stuffed?
Urgent help needed - accidental damage to a concours car

I need some advice urgently. I park in a garage next to a lovely concours Porsche 356 convertible. Ten years plus. Today there was a 356 hard top next to me (the owner's other car). I admired it greatly. On pulling out, I had neglected to remember that I had set my front wheels at an angle to move further away from the car at the right. I always pull straight out. Suddenly, I noticed I was moving way too close to the concrete pillar on my right rear. I stopped, and found the front - unfortunately - wedged against the 356. When I pulled forward I had scraped the car about a foot and a half, denting the door and creasing his Topaz £6,000 clear warap!! (so I am told!)
In his words: " the car is a multiple concourse winner in the States and was a 3 year restoration. I picked it up today. The car showed at The Quaiil Concour, Amelia Island Concours and Dana Point Concours. It was going to the Hedingham Porsche show tomorrow!!"
I am insured under the Footman James policy. I have no idea about his insurance. Yes, I did the damage, no way around that. Not intentional and of course there is not a scratch to my car!
He is off to his Porsche specialists to get full repair and respray estimates which could easily add up to over 10-15k!!
I didn't have my phone to take pics unfortunately but can go over tonight. Suggestions? Call insurers now? I thought we could handle it among ourselves but this has escalated!! Help!!
