Thanks for your replies.
Nick , fairly certain its the pump, planning to bench test the prv this afternoon. Not really a lot to go wrong in the relief valve tho.Setting was accurate 2-3 years ago when last checked. The cars been used in higher temps in the past without any issues.
Brian,if all else fails its on my list of options
Andy, may be able to get local f/injection engineers to bench test pump to prove one way or the other.and planning to strip prv later

Why, after 16 years of fairly quiet use, apart from the buzzing noise , has my Bosch 0580254956 pump
now started to sound like a wailing banshee with toothache. This happens after a few miles and has
coincided with the recent heatwave, even though in previous heatwaves its been ok.
Nothings changed, the plumbing is the same configuration its always been.I replaced the fuel filter and
checked the PRV strainer, both were totally clean. The car still runs ok when its wailing.
I can hear a random metallic rattle when the pumps running, and on removing the pump I can hear it
when I shake the pump.Is this normal or is it a sign that the pump has had enough.
If I need to replace the pump can anyone suggest a supplier and any alternatives.

Don`t send it to the DVLA .
That what I did and it took almost three weeks to be processed.
Do it at your local post office and they will do it straightaway.

Well nobodys perfect ,especially in the self interest world of politics, but what state do you think the country would be in if moron
Brown and his gang of buffoons were still running the country,I`ll tell you ,completely shafted.
from an "average working man" who`ll never vote Labour again.

In 1998 when I bought my TR6 it had just reached 25years old and I looked forward to nil road tax,but
unfortunately that grinning pudding Gordon Brown had other ideas, and had hidden the new cut off
date in his budget,a move that probably cost more to implement than the revenue it made.
It has taken 16 years to get to this moment when revenge is sweet.
So Gordon, I and along with many others would like to extend a middle finger to your petty political
posturing and extend a big thank you to George for righting a wrong ,even though it has taken such a
long time to get there. My new tax disc showing nil is now proudly displayed on my windscreen.

I wish that I had gone to the local post office and not bothered the DVLA ,post has just been ,still no tax disc.

Thanks for that info Steve, hopefully you`ll get your V5 and I`ll get my tax disc in the next few days, fingers crossed.

Hi Steve ,
have you also received your new reg certificate showing the car is now historic.
I`ve received the amended reg certificate stating historic, but no tax disc as yet.Must be coming from a different department.
Hopefully in the next few days.

Historic tax update
Received mot and heritage certificate copy back from DVLA this morning.
They apologised for not being able to process my application at this time but stated that the are holding onto the application and
that it would be processed on 1st April and the historic tax disc will follow.
seems to be a positive result

Sent my documents in on the 12th March including a letter of explanation, have`nt heard anything yet.
After reading the above posts it seems that they may have a system in place after all.
Here`s hoping that everything falls into place later this month but until it does I`ll keep everything crossed

Thanks for that information Dave.
Sounds logical and straightforward to me but you just never know with government offices.
Here`s hoping that the local post office person has been let in on the secret.
fingers crossed Dave

Hi Adrian,
Got mine done by a local engineering shop. Alex Carrs in Hull ,east yorkshire.well known locally for all types of machining.
They did not report any problems so it must have been straightforward.
Seem to remember it was about £16 for the pair, mind it was seventeen years ago

Some confusion about the pin size here.
These are the ones I got off ebay Rob,my car is a 73 TR6 CR series. The pin size was 3/16
ebay item number 370664713084Dave -
Hi Rob,
Had exactly the same problem as you, very annoying , especially when people stared as I drove past due to the noise.
Only stopped when resting my foot on the brake pedal.
Simple solution though, the problem is the front brakes, easily cured by fitting the anti rattle spring clips,as found on e-bay.
Had no problems since

I cannot understand why people feel the need to replace the original seats with a modern type. Its a British Triumph for Gods sake, not a Japanese sportscar. If you want mx5 seats buy a mx5.
The original seats just need rebuilding with new foams, diaphragms and covers and are then very comfortable. Its also a job you can do yourself , theres lots of information out there to help achieve a really good result..
In my opinion different seats in a Tr just ruin the look of the car,

Have seen a few posts recently regarding injector opening pressure, some
suggest that if a Bosch pump is fitted then the opening pressure could be
increased from 50 to 65psi. What would be the benefits of this over the lower
setting if the cars running and starting ok anyway and is it worth doing.

I`ll keep my eyes open if it gets up here to the frozen north,oh and I`ll prime my shotgun ready

Thanks for your response Steve.
So you fitted them with the chamfer uppermost, facing the injectors did you.
Are yours the same as mine with just the one groove and one `o` ring.
cheers Dave
-
Dear Forum,
Does anyone know if there is a wrong way or a right way to fit the blocks which hold the injectors.
The ones in my car 1973 cr model, have blocks with one end chamfered and the other end flat.
There is one groove nearest to the flat end with one `o` ring fitted.
The brown bible states that the block should be fitted with the chamfer uppermost, i.e butting up to the
injector .This means that the `o` ring will be further down the tube into which the block fits.
Does this make any difference ?.Is one way right and the other wrong?.
Will fitting the wrong way affect the running of the car ,if so in what way.
Thanks in anticipation Dave

When the offside hub failed on my six the first indication was a clicking noise, not very loud, similar to a stone in the tyre tread.
No significant play in the bearing. Then without warning the handling felt strange, luckily only doing about 10mph,Stopped the car to find the wheel at 45deg to the body.Shaft had sheared.
Bought an extra lottery ticket that weekend thinking my luck must be in,was only 2 days before I was doing 70 down the motorway.
Can`t be too careful with hubs

Blimey,I hope that all you purchasers are as delighted as I am with the flasher unit, otherwise I`ll have to go into hiding or leave the country.

I can`t believe that my 38 year old indicators have been magically transformed all for the
princely sum of £7.9
I have to keep slapping myself and checking them in case its all a dream.
The old slow indicators are now rapid, yes rapid, and the dashboard light is bright green and the clicking is
loud.
Might have to get an asprin now as I`m getting over exited.!
If you`re still persevering with the ancient system treat yourself you`ll be as amazed as I am.
Its a straight swap for the old one, fitted in minutes.
I have no connection with the supplier other than being one highly chuffed customer,so chuffed that I have ordered another as a spare.
You`ll find these on e-bay under the name BB CLASSICS

You`re absolutely right John,I`m sure we`ve all experienced the green eyed exec half way up the tail pipe in his company Insignia
BM or Audi for many a mile as we tootle around pleasant country lanes, waiting for the moment he can show his car is faster than
your car by overtaking ,usually on blind bends.
They need to grow some pubic hair and possibly when we exit these financially troubled times and their sales figures improve they
may be able to buy themselves a piece of good old British motoring heritage and join the the grown ups in their Trs.

wailing Bosch fuel pump

Update to fuel pump noise.
stripped prv and found it to be clean and working ok with no evidence of stiction.Checked pressure and gauge showed 120psi,this was reduced to 109psi.The pump is still buzzing but have not had chance to test drive the car to see if the screeching returns.I have ordered a Sytec pump to compare noise levels with the Bosch pump and will fit the best of the two.
cheers Dave
