  1. Hi there hoping someone could help me track down a TR4 or 4A for restoration.

Any help would be greatly appreciated

    Thanks

hi joe ian again. Spotted 2 4as for resto in yesterdays classic car weekly. One for some reason is in the parts for sale section.Hope you are lucky this time.

  2. i have just taken delivery of high torque starter for my 4a.My questions is do you leave in the existing shim starter to bell housing or leave it out. Also do you leave the existing solenoid in or replace the lead battery to starter. cheers ian.

  3. Hi. Does anyone know where I might be able to buy a fitting as shown in the attached picture. It's a copper pipe with (brass?) fitting which screws into the outlet of the fuel pump on a TR4. The existing is badly worn (looks horrible!) and leaks (sounds dangerous!). Rimmers cannot help. Thanks. Jim

had the same problem on my car, nut badly chewed. tr bitz supplied pipe nut and olive now sorted, cheers ian.

  4. I owned this between 1972/73, and traded it for a 3000GXL Capri. It had a surrey top, non overdrive box, and was white with a red interior. The head gasket blew, and I had the engine rebuilt to Stage 2, which cost me over £200 (a lot of money back then). I would be interested to know if anybody has any knowledge of the car - if it still exits

hi,ian here. i saw this car advertised on ebay last year, but am unsure if it sold. it was also featured in thoroughbred and classic cars april 2000 issue. it was then green and owned by a peter gale. hope this helps.

  5. Has anybody got any happy experiences of sourcing a replacement windscreen? I'm now on my second attempt windscreen (and seal). It's made by Pilkingtons so would expect it to fit properly but it's not quite the same as the original and doesn't sit neatly in the frame.

i had one fitted recently by autoglas thru insurance. the problem i had was no one at the glasgow depot had the skills to fit it, they finally got an old guy according to them, 52yrs old and it was finally fitted. it is not a wonderful fit but i am putting this down to possibly the new seal, so best of luck to you mate. ian w.

  6. Thanks for that, it's great to know that there's so much help out there.

    Cheers Geoff.

  8. Hi all,

I'm going to have to replace the vast majority of the bolts on the car - so may as well replace the whole lot.... does anyone happen to have a spreadsheet or some other list of what is needed? Otherwise I see some long nights ahead making up a list myself!

    Thanks

    Chris

try namric in hove tel. 01273 779864, will sell any quantity, very good service, cheers, ian

  9. Thanks, guys, for your tips. I've got various bits from Moss and have been impressed with their speed of delivery and helpful emails from the chap dealing with my order. A couple of people in this part of the world have also said positive things about TRGB, TR Trader and TR Spares - I hope one of them can source me a good A-type O/D 'box. While price is important, getting good quality components and knowledgeable, prompt service is paramount.

Thankfully I don't need body parts this time round. My experience earlier this year with MGB inner/outer sills, wings and a door left me very disappointed. The location of the hinge bolts was miles out and the quality of the pressings wasn't fantastic either. All in all putting these right added several hours to the labour bill.

Hello there, i may be able to help you re o/drive box as our clyde valley leader rebuilds them in his w/shop. As regards spares i have found trbitz good and very helpful, ask for craig. Have also purchased parts off ebay and people offering me parts at shows. Give me a call if you like and we can discuss 4as my no is 0141 632 7452, ian w.

  10. Richard

You're showing your age :o ! Yep, it's still readily available - I got my last lot from Axminster Tool Centre http://www.axminster.co.uk/product.asp?pf_...e=1&jump=44. It's good stuff - easy to achieve a good finish and very hard wearing.

i am not having any success in obtaining rustins plastic coating as yet, but my query is how much is required as the stuff only seems to come in 250ml or 1ltr cans. i would have thought 1ltr was far too much, any thoughts on this, thanks ian walker glasgow 4a.

  11. HI ANDY GLASGOW 4A HERE, HAD A FEW BROKEN STUDS ON MY MANIFOLD WHEN I GOT CAR PLUS A FEW OTHER BODGES, PERHAPS WE COULD HAVE ACHAT SOMETIME. MY E MAIL ADDRESS IS P21TDS@YAHOO.CO.UK, CHEERS, IAN
