Typing error Jon, should be Swinging 60's which is representative of the age of the cars competing, not the age of the drivers as someone asked me recently!
Now back safely from Spain without any delays but Mallory drive has been cancelled as one of the Jigsaw Spitfires had a bad crash on the road yesterday and has been withdrawn from the race. Pity I was really looking forward to racing a Spitfire especially such an historic car.

No he has got his own car although he is running in a new engine so might not be too pleased if he has to do the whole race in his car!!

I am entered in the Swinging 50s with Rob Cowing but at the moment I am on holiday in Spain and wondering whether we will make it back in time due to the Ash Cloud.
I am also racing at Mallory on Monday in the HRDC Grand Touring Greats race in the Jigsaw ex-works Rally Spitfire ADU 7B.
Its going to ba a busy weekend provided we make it back!!!

Don't believe everything you are told Jon! There were a lot of 'windup' merchants in the TR Register series and some are still racing today!!!!

Particularly well done to Martyn Adams who only qualified 7th in a 30 car grid of heavyweight Porsches, Astons and American V8s but still managed to beat them all in the race finishing over 20 seconds ahead of his arch nemesis in a Lotus Esprit Turbo!
However where are all the other quick TR7V8s, apart from the ones who are now seen competing in the Scottish Hills. Come on guys, Alan Price, Mike Cowing and Mark Richards to name just three. Lets see you out racing in the Future Classics and giving Martyn some backup against all those hordes of Porsches!

Or if he wants to share the car with his father - The Classic Sports Car Clubs Swinging 60's series with well over 100 cars registered in 2010!

Car was on pole for the first Jigsaw Classic Triumph race at Mallory Park in 2008. Unfortunately a damp race saw Jonathon White lose it in the Esses on lap 1 where he was hit by a Dolomite Sprint, both cars retiring from the race.

My Targa Florio book was written by David Owen and published by Haynes in 1979 and cost me less than £10! Not sure if its still in print.

You are correct it was Alan Smith not Andrew Smith and I do believe he owned the car although I am not aware of his nationality. Nick Faure definitely qualified the car in that time but I do not know who was driving when they retired although my records definitely indicate it was an accident that caused its retirement.
Nick Faure, of course, had a long and distinguished career racing mainly Porsches including several drives at Le Mans.

I am sure that a number of TR Register members will be aware of the privately entered TR5 that competed in the 1969 Targa Florio. The car featured on the cover of David Vizards book "Tuning Standard Triumphs over 1300cc" .It was entered by Demetriou Racing and driven by Nick Faure and Andrew Smith. The car was very standard apart from stiffened suspension but qualified very well in a time of 44 minutes which was over 3 minutes quicker than the only other car in its class, a Ferrari! Unfortunately all did not go well in the race as it crashed out on lap 3.
To my knowledge there is no commercially available record of the race but I have recently found a 7 minute clip on a website www.racingdeal.com.If you scroll down to the videos section you will find 1969 Targa Florio and about 3 minutes in you will see the car.
There is also an excellent photo of the car in Paul Parkers superb book "Sports Car Racing in Camera 1960- 1969.

Check the Blue Book Jon.Page 194. You do not need a full rollcage now providing a line drawn from the top of the bulkhead to the top of the rollcage clears the drivers helmet. Having said that I still feel safer with a full rollcage.

There has been a perception amongst the TR Register committee for some time now that there were quite a number of TR Register members who were currently competing or were thinking of competing in Historic Rallying. One only had to open any copy of TR Action to see the latest exploits of these individuals and if you went to spectate at a Historic Rally you were bound to see a number of TR's entered and doing well. So it was decided that I organise a TR Register Rally Championship. Steve Hall quickly stepped up and generously offered to sponsor the Championship and questionnaires were sent out, following an advert in TR Action, to all interested parties. Initial feedback was quite good and as a result Steve and I went ahead and organised the TR Register Rally Challenge sponsored by TR Enterprises in conjunction with The Historic Rally Car Club incorporating several daytime regularity and night time rallies all organised by the HRCR starting in April and finishing in December. All competitors had to do was to register free of charge with myself or the office and send in the results from the rallies they contested
I am too embarrassed to tell you how many competitors registered but you can count them on one hand!!!!
So where are you all? These are in the main non-damaging events and I cannot believe there are only a handful of members who wish to register. It is not too late to register for this year which at the present rate will be the first and last year we hold it! So please ring me on 01948 663827 or the office for a registration form and lets make the Rally Challenge a success.
