Hi
Through my recent research in the Manchester Archive into Hollingdrake Stockport new car registrations I can add the following information;
Original date of registration 02/05/1955, JDB 90 was one of eight TR2's with the JDB prefix the earliest was JDB88 and the last was JDB499.
JDB 90 had been transferred the the Gloucester County Council licencing records by April 1959.
JDB 90 is currently the only "live" DVLA registration record.
Now where did I put my Anorak?

Hi
I would like to clarify the information given above, the constructions & use legislation regarding the number of forward facing fog lamps is only applicable to vehicles first used or registered on or after the 1st of April 1991.
Given the above date, it is perfectly legal to operate a single front facing fog lamp on any TR when visibility is impaired.
This is the same legislation that allows the original TR2 early TR3 single rear Brake lamp fitment to remain legal on UK roads.
Hope this helps
Kind regards

Hi
As Alec suggests above, the number plate appears to now adorns a Land Rover.

Hi Brian
I understand Sunset Red was a Standard ie Vanguard colour, the '57 model year TR3 brochure references TR3's finished in Beige were offered with a contrasting Sunset Red hardtop.
By the time the Herald was released in '58 Sunset Red had been deleted from the Colour palette.

Hi Kevin
The Coventry registration records are available for public viewing (strictly by appointment) at the Coventy Motor Museum, you may find your car was originally issued with an attractive number that an owner later transfered in Surrey.
Hope this helps

Hi Mike
The brackets you show are correct for the Small Mouth TR3 occasional rear seat, there are in fact 4 brackets utilised, the 2 large ones you have pictured above and two small ones (in a much lighter steel gauge) the secure the top of the back rest to the two bolts that pass through the rear trim into brackets welded to the two petrol tank straps (unique to the small mouth).
I have an occasional seat i can send photographs of (message me your e-mail address) however it is missing the above mentioned top securing brackets.

Hi
In Friday morning's "1952" show on BBC1, there is a very early TR2 (Irish plate BI 6600) seen performing a reverse move during a Rally Test, please find a link below.
http://www.bbc.co.uk/i/b01f9sgt/
You don't have to wait long, it's within the first 3 minutes, there is a further article on motoring in the fifties including (factory footage) contained in the programme.
Enjoy!

Hi Mike
The captive nut and bracket you have highlighted are unique to a small mouth TR3, the are the top mountings for the Occasional Rear Seat factory option.
Originally the car would have had two chrome headed bolts and washers visible on the top of the rear trim panel.
Hope this helps

Hi
I have fitted stop /tail multi directional LED lamps from Bernard Bryant to the rear of my son's MK3 Spitfire with excellent results, I understand from Bernard LED lamps are polarity sensitive, and currently only available in Negative Earth configuration from his supplier.
Has anyone found a source of high quality, multi directional, Positive Earth red stop / tail LED lamps?
Kind regards

Hi Guy
The strength of illumination to the centre instument cluster depends more on the transparency of the plastic inserts within the gauge, If the inserts have yellowed the level of illumination will be poor, if the plastic is clear you may wish to retain the rheostat or alternatively you can fit blue neoprene covers to the lamps. (bulbs are what you plant in the garden)

Hi Brian
The sidescreen brackets appear to be the early "Wedge" type, (the slot is recessed for the screw head on one side), so I would agree it is a TR3 early 3A sidescreen.
The Roadster factory http://trf.zeni.net/webcatalog/specials6.25/24.php can supply the cobex fixed front window panel with the correct rear seal.

Hi Rob
I can't recommend highly enough the uprated bulbs from Bernard Bryant mentioned above, I fitted them into my SFT700 & SLR700 lamps they are fantastic!
Usual disclaimer relating to any personal or finacial interest apply.

Hi Malcolm
I also have a set you can borrow (you know which car they are off) as patterns, the repro bracket profile is nothing like the originals and as a result the bar is mounted to low in relation to the front panel.
Give me a shout if they are any use.
Kind regards

Hi Adey
The video is fantastic, don't the webers sound awesome.
We don't always remember how lucky we are to have such a road within ten minutes of home.
See you at the summit!

Someone must have repaired the car as is has previously been registered on the DVLA computer (Original Reg Date 18-04-1962).

Hi Stuart,
The curved aeroscreens were just that, and Derrington sold them for a variety of fitments - in theory, at least, improved aerodynamics compared to flat aeroscreens. Given the coefficient of drag of a TR2 or TR3, 0.8 or thereabouts, more drag than Danny La Rue, any such miniscule improvement was probably entirely academic . . . .
There must be the odd survivors still around ?
Cheers,
Alec
Hi Alec /Stuart
Here's a set I found earlier this year, there is whats left of a one inch rubber seal at the base.

Don't you just love long door cars in dark colours? This looks stunning, on a purely safety note, the battery doesn't appear to have any retaining bracket fitted.

Good evening
Found on "you tube", a video of all the Triumphs attempting Test 3 (on gravel).
I really must get some tyres that work on gravel
Enjoy!

Hi
It always surprises me when people comment on this photograph, that no one mentions the poor guys with their arms outstretched holding up the large banner in the rear of the shot. :-)
Perhaps one of these is Dave Gleed?
Kind regards
Andrew
