  1. I would say price is about right

No front spoiler and carpets could do with being replaced Also no engine photo and I wonder what the few little jobs are that need doing.

As for the wheels I think it is standard steel wheels with chrome ring trims.

I agree the price sounds about right in the real world but with everybody cashing-in on the 'classic' scene I was suprised it hadn't been elevated - good buy for somebody then eh! Just out of interest I emailled the vendor about rust and the few little jobs - he said...

hi theres not realy any rot on the body.the fuel guage is not working and a noisy thrust bearing

The wheels can't simpy be steels with chrome trim-rings on because you can see the black centre 'hub' part of the plastic covers - must either be chrome version of original covers (if such things exist) or ones that've been cut down to allow for the trim-rings ...or a type of cover I don't know about.

  2. Am I missing something here?

    http://cgi.ebay.co.uk/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?Vie...p;rd=1&rd=1

This DHC don't look so bad to me - why is not at the normally uber-inflated 'classic' price? I was recently invited to view a complete dog of a FHC (rust on every panel, **** colour etc etc) at a well respected dealer who wanted £1750 for it! What makes this so cheap? ...no good to me as I want a FHC but it caught my eye so just wondered.

While I'm at it - those rims, are they steels with the standard covers cut down so chrome trim-rings can be used or did Triumph/BL sell covers with chromed outer rims? They look pretty good IMO!

  3. stevie-a: Stirling work on the 'TR's with alternative wheels' pics matey! Some I didn't like too much and some had me howling with laughter, but the Minilites with the graphite centres - and the Alleycats look great! Might have to play with that idea on the stock alloys until I can afford a set! Cheers! ;)

dave-lewis: Turbovecs! Of course! Well done that man! :D

  4. Damn that subscription to Hot Car magazine in the 70's - now I'm hearing voices too! Were they called Turbo Vanes? ...or am I thinking of the (much more dished) ones as fitted to the A-Team van?

So choice-wise (bearing in mind I want to run the standard tyre sizes) there's the factory TR7 alloys, Minilites, WR slots, Montego alloys, Dolomite Sprint alloys(?), factory steels with covers, and what else??

  5. Can't help with the wheels themselves but I'm pretty sure that, that car is TrishaTR and belongs to Jay who runs www.triumphtr7.com. You'll probably be able to get more information there or from Jay direct (except I have just tried and the site seems to be down right now - probably only being updated - I expect it will be back later).

Cheers Gordon - I've had a punt about on Jay's site and it sure is TRisha - couldn't find any info on the wheels so I'll have to email him ...or is he registered on this site? Anyhow, thanks for the lead.

  6. Here is another one for you MZ on ebay today number is 140105605086 looks good.

    Regards Moe

Thanks for that it does look good but I'm a bit wary of sellers with no feedback ..especially if it's an expensive item like a car! I've actually got two very strong contenders which I'm going to look at during the next week or so fingers crossed! :)

  7. Hi MZ have a look at this one on ebay it has got the glass sunroof but bodily it looks pretty sound the number is 200096551648. Worth alook

    Regards Moe

Thanks for that Moe - I did see it but there's something not quite right with that red (IMO) - that and the 4-speed box kinda dampened my enthusiasm somewhat! I greatly appreciate your taking the trouble to reply to my post though - I'm liking this forum lots already! :)

  8. Cheers Alec - all sound advice of course but you're preaching to the converted about the safety aspect - I just like my cars to look outwardly standard which will be easier with a FHC..

Tom did email me tonight (stunning paint on his car btw!) but unfortunately his TR7 is sans-engine at the moment and, like him, I just haven't the time to take on a project right now. Lovely car by the look of the pics he sent though.

Right then, just for the sportsmanship of it I'm going to stick my neck out here and claim that within 6 months from now I'll bag myself a really decent standard 4-cylinder Canley or Solihull FHC, not perfect but no rot, in a nice colour, mechanically good, with an MOT for no more than (here goes!) 2000 quid - what do you reckon? ;)

rosey: I'll register on that site tomorrow and check out that link - cheers!

  9. Jeeeeeeeez!! :o

Being an ex-Lotus guy I was once offered an Esprit that'd had the 'white' treatment (it looked equally rank) but nothing (and I MEAN nothing) had quite prepared me for the visual violence of this TR7's interior treatment gave me!!

V8again: That hurt my retinas bigtime - could I suggest more of a warning next time please?

  10. Thanks for that Alec - much appreciated. ;)

You brought up some interesting points there:

Firstly, you're advising (quite rightly) that the condition of bodyshell is everything and to buy one with the best bodywork and not worry about the mechanicals. I can obiously see the sense, and your thinking behind that (although I should have mentioned I want a car to use now rather than a project, sorry about that!) - BUT the FHC bodyshell is freely available brand new so surely buying a 'good runner' and a new bodyshell would be the way to go if one fancied building one?

Secondly, one of the reasons I always choose the FHC version of my chosen classic (whatever the make) is the fact that in today's traffic one is so vunerable in a DHC that a rollover bar is basically mandatory ..which immediately ruins the look/image of the original vehicle. Consider any number of handsome roadsters such as the E-Type, MGB, Spitfire etc with the extra metalwork behind the seats - the original lines of the car only really exist when the hood is up, which is a shame (IMO). Are you telling me the FHC TR7 needs a rollover bar if it has a sunroof?? Although I don't care for the glass affairs (thanks for the extra info on these BTW) I was always fine with the factory sliding ones looks-wise ..but now I'm a little scared by your reply! I was under the impression that, apart from the lazy gits not painting the unseen surfaces and edges of the panels, the bodyshell of the FHC was a notably strong unit?

Incidentally, if Tom does want to sell his FHC then perhaps you'd ask him to kindly mail me a pic or two (soon) as I'm actively viewing them now - it would be a shame to miss out on a good 'un! My email is: mad.zero (at) btinternet.com - thanks.

  11. I think you answered your own question in paragraph one. They have gained popularity so people are hanging on to them. I searched for ever to find a FHC without a sunroof, when I bought it, turned out to be not as good as advertised. Keep an eye on Ebay, I have purchased 5 cars from there over 2 years, if your careful it is a very good option.

    Chris

FIVE of 'em? that's just plain greedy! :o

Cheers for the tip I'll keep scanning the bay too!

  12. I thought finding a restored (i.e rot-free) TR7 would be pretty easy by now due to them gaining popularity with classic car owners, but all I can find are dropheads ..and I want a FHC. :(

I've performed dozens of Google searches but only found 3 cars - one's way to expensive, one is in Guernsey, and the other has a c.1984 glass sunroof plonked on the top - surely someone in the UK specialises in these things??

I'm off to Robsport tomorrow for a poke about (I live near them) but I'm not holding out much hope as it seems the only TR7's deemed worthy of restoring are the DHC's and V8's - anyone have any ideas?

  13. Thanks for that guys - much appreciated! :)

I'm actually in Fordham (a village between Newmarket & Soham) but fall under the Cambs postal area, still not far from Cambridge though. I'll be hooking up with my local group as soon as I've bagged me a car!

Vehicle-wise I'm actually advertising/looking for a rust free example right now - I've been offered one and am in the throws of negotiating a deal. If this falls through then I'm very near Robsport so I may comission them to make one of their stock rust-free for me ...that'll be expensive though. I happen to prefer the FHC to the Drophead so have a slight advantage from a money point of view - just a pity so many FHC's got ruddy great big holes cut in the roof during the 80's!! :(

  14. Just thought I'd say hello (HELLO!) - I'm intending to become a TR7 owner pretty soon and thought membership of this forum to be a jolly good idea! ...you guys/gurls might even save me from getting my fingers burnt come buying time eh! :D
