  1. Hello All,

Thanks for your feedback, a few things I. have checked are that the new w/ glasses are identical shape to the originals & the regulators are originals. But unforunately some family matters have stopped me looking further at the moment. I will keep you informed when I can get back into my garage.

By the way Neil there is only one area that I am short & I bet you can't guess where it is.

    Cheers

  2. HELLO ALL,

I am having a major problem in getting the w/screen frame to fit on a TR5 I am restoring. On fitment of the frame to the bulkhead & fitting new door windows the gap when the windows are wound up is 3/4

inch at the bottom of frame between the glass & there is no gap at the top, in fact the glass is catching the frame.

Could it be that the glasses are repros & not shaped correctly. No amount of adjustment of the frame position makes any difference.

Any help to resolve this problem would be appreciated.

    Thanks

    Peter

  3. Hello All,

I am shortly about to restore a 250 brought over from the States recently. On receiving the Heritage certificate it states that this car was fitted with 185/15 tyres on wire wheels as standard. It currently has 5 1/2 j wheels with 165/15 tyres. The wheels are going to be blasted & painted, but the question is will 185/15 tyres fit the standard wheels?.

Can anyone point me in the right direction.

    Cheers

  4. Hello Tony,

I have tried to send you a pm but unfortunately having no luck.

On contacting the supplier of these gauges he says that the voltage stabilizer is producing too much power to the gauges consequently the wiring is getting too hot which is causing the mistiness.

Do you agree with his diagnosis?.

    Cheers

  5. Hello,

Can anyone tell me why the 4 small gauges on my TR5 are misting up on the inside when I start the car after a couple of days & they take ages to clear. No matter what the outside temperature is showing. It doesn't happen with the 2 large gauges ie rev/speedo. It happened recently when I got caught out in a tropical downpour.

All the gauges have been restored by a well known guy.

    Cheers

  6. Mike,

I had this problem with my TR5, I went back to the suppliers ( TRGB ) & they had in stock 2 different cable lengths. I swopped for the shorter cable problem solved.

  7. Hello All,

Sorry for being so long to replying to your advice with my misfiring / tickover problems. After quite a lengthy time checking this & that I think I have sorted out the gremlins.

First the misfire, on checking the injector pipes I found that nos 3/4 were not pulsing, on removing the injectors they were just dribbling fuel, giving them a light tap produced the spray & " bingo " the misfire was cured.

On the suspected air leak I loosened off the throttle bodies " jiggled them about retightened & again " bingo " problem solved. The engine ticks over at 7-800 rpm smooth as silk.

Can I say that ntc mentioned the position of the throttle bodies some time ago so thanks Neil.

Can't wait until the drive it day on 21st April to give my car a good blast.

Once again many thanks for your help.

    Cheers

  8. Hello All,

Having eventually completed a total resroration of my TR5 I have had the usual running in problems which I have now sorted out apart from my remaining main problem, that is the tick over. I can't get the tick over any less than 1,000 rpm, & that is with the manifold air bleed screwed fully in.

The engine has a constant misfire & when I loosen the air bleed off the revs climb to 1500 rpm but the misfire continues. I have set the ignition timing to 8 degrees advance on tick over, Checked for any airleaks.

The engine has been totally rebuilt & reconditioned throttle bodies from Prestige reconditioned metering unit from K-Raven- Smith etc. The butterflies all open & close in unison.

This problem sounds as if air leaks are the cause & I would appreciate any feed back .

    Cheers

  9. Conrad behave yourself otherwise I will insist on chocolate eclairs.

If you have any hobnobs left bring them to Stoneliegh it will save me spending my government heating allowance.

    Peter

  10. Hello Forumites,

I have on occasions met up with Conrad. But be careful if he ever invites you round for a cup of tea & a chat. The teas ok but the biscuits are always cheap custard creams & not hobknobs which I prefer.

    You have been warned.

    Cheers

  11. Hello Martin,

I have recently completed the restoration of my TR5 the colour being jasmine.

The colour code shown in the Moss book is CCYL34 A/B. I visited a local paint supplier to obtain this paint & I also took along the vent lid flap which was still had the original paint on it & after quite a long time the paint supplier mixed the paint to correspond with the vent lid flap.

If you let me have your email address I will send you some pics of my car.

    Cheers

  12. Just to let you know why I am only getting 1/2 sweep on the wiper arms. I removed the wiper boxes & discovered that they are TR6 boxes. well these boxes are twice the cicumference as the TR5 which means the travel will be only half as to what I need. I have ordered a pair of correct new boxes, & when fitted I will let you know the result.

    Peter W

Your diagnosis was spot on thankyou & thanks to all the other contributors for your help

  13. Hello All,

I have a problem with the sweep of the wiper arms, I am only getting half a sweep. On checking the motor it is stamped DR3A & the driving gear reads 120 o sweep. But the rod from the gear connected to the drive cable only travels half way along thus causing I think only half a sweep. Is this right?.

The wiper boxes have only minimal wear. Is the 120 o gear correct for this w/w motor if so I would be interested in the cause of this problem.

By the way I am still working on the back fire problem. Stuart sugested that the problem lies with the silicon plug leads & he has kindly offered to make up a set on copper leads.

I will let you know how I get on.

    Cheers

  14. Hello All,

On starting up the engine on my TR5 after a full rebuild it is backfiring quite badly, in fact there is very heavy flames ejecting out of the manifolds.

I have checked all the usual suspects ie plugs/coil /points/condenser & in fact they have all been replaced. I am coming to the conclusion that the fault lies with the metering unit over fueling. The reconditioned metering unit has been checked numerous times that it is timed up with the no 6 outlet slightly open when the engine is on no 1 cylinder TDC. The ignition timing is set at 8 degrees advance.

I would appreciate if anyone can help me with this problem.

    Cheers

  15. Hello All,

I am nearly ready for the road after a 2 year restoration of my TR5 & hopefully will be visiting the IWE at Malvern in August.

I have a problem with w/motor not self parking when switched off. It doesn't make any difference when I rotate

the round metal cap on the motor the wipers just simply stop when switched off.

Is their anyone that could help me with this problem please.

    Cheers

    Peter

  16. Thanks for your response, but having made further enquiries I am no nearer to discovering the real problem. One answer to cure this fault is to shorten the inner cable by re-soldering the nipple at the throttle pedal end futher along, but this could cause problems if I have to replace the cable at a later date.

I will let you know how I get on.

    Cheers

    Peter
