Emails sent a moment or two ago.
John, glad to hear about the carbs.

Jo,
I have a number of gauges, some TR2/3 and some TR4.
I have had a quick look and do have a correct early TR4 domed glass oil pressure gauge PL2561/00. I also have a Lucas ammeter that looks to be correct.
If anyone else is reading this, I have a sidescreen fuel gauge X49422/220, another fuel gauge FG2520/20 and another Lucas ammeter. I also have a rev counter RC163, which is correct for a sidescreen car.

Hi Jo,
Would you like me to have a look in my spares stash to see what gauges are there?

Before I advertise this for sale on eBay, or elsewhere, is anyone interested in the good condition one I have available?

Marco,
I have a number of blocks, a couple of cranks, some competition 87mm liners, con rods, flywheels, and loads of other parts available.
The difficult part would be getting them to you.

Two of the early TR4 gauges are not the same as TR3 gauges, and will not work in a TR4 without some effort. Fuel gauge is different type of ‘mechanism’ with a different sender unit, water temp gauge uses an electrical sender rather than the sidescreen bulb type, oil pressure may possibly be the same, albeit with a different number on the gauge. It’ll work in the same way, and ammeter may well simply have a different number on the gauge.
Of course, they look very similar.

Colin,
Do you know what body panels you’ll be needing?
I have a variety of used panels which may possibly be better than the ones you currently have. It depends on how rusty yours are, compared to how rusty mine are!

I have had a Revington TR manifold and system on my road going TR3a since it was rebuilt quite a number of years ago.
I seem to remember that a bit of relieving to the chassis is needed for manifold clearance.
Are you absolutely sure that your current system is 122db? That’s incredibly loud. The Phoenix big bore system (single silencer box) on my TR4 racecar sneaks in at just under 105db.
I’d follow Ian’s suggestion, if you’re sure your current system really is 122db, and add an additional silencer box

I have at least 3 used rear decks, all with the strengthening sections underneath. The strengtheners are in decent condition. The rear decks need repair, but they are all easily repairable.
Contact me via PM if interested.

Thanks for all of the responses and ideas.
I’ll make/buy a block for the throttle pedal and make a ‘stop’ bracket for the carb end of things.
Levers etc are easy to buy from Burlen.

Failing that, try one of these https://www.moss-europe.co.uk/shop-by-model/triumph/tr2-4a/performance-tuning/engines-components/silicone-rocker-cover-gaskets-tr2-4a-54335.html with the proper sealant.

David,
Ive just stumbled over a NOS black painted one in my workshop. https://www.moss-europe.co.uk/rocker-cover-vented-triumph-tune-logo-black-tt1120.html
If you’re interested in a painted one, rather than a polished do let me know.

Had a look and, as usual, Stuart is correct.
I do have 2 TR5/250 bonnets and a number of TR4 bonnets.

I have a sneaking suspicion that the frame underneath was moved to take account of the TR5/250 badge position.
I’m in the workshop tomorrow and if you’d like me to see if I have a TR5 bonnet, do let me know.

Thanks all. Food for thought and helpful ideas.

Has anyone converted their car to use a cable operated throttle, rather than the linkage rods?
Rather than reinventing the wheel, which I could do, it would be helpful to see pictures and descriptions of how your car has been converted.
Thanks

Hello Adrian.
You shouldn’t really need ‘upgraded calipers’ as its entirely possible to lock wheels with standard calipers.
I do have a vested interest as I have a stash of standard calipers for sale, these having been refurbished recently by Bigg Red!

IanIf anyone wants a set, I think David Ferry has some he wishes to sell
Ian is correct, I have a number of sets of original magnesium:ARE Silverstone wheels available for sale. All crack tested and refinished by Ian Jemison Engineering, who are well versed in this work.
If interested, do get in touch.

Hi John,
Recently, I bought a solid state one from http://www.dynamoregulatorconversions.com/ for my TR3 race car build.
I’m unlikely to ever use it (it’s never been fitted) and could sell it to you if that helps. It may help your situation as these are far better than those regulators having mechanical innards.
However, they are polarity sensitive and from memory the unused one I have if for a negative earth car.
if of interest, you have my email address etc.

Paul,
Alternatively, I have used original Stanpart panels available, which would be perfect for repair or use as a core panel for this repair service https://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/TRIUMPH-TR4-4A-5-ORIGINAL-WINGS-L-K/133190181005?hash=item1f02c0e08d:g:pwYAAOSwyyJdi5Vh
I know the eBay seller, Mark Johnson, well and have no hesitation whatsoever in recommending his work.

I can’t remember the TR gearstick thread size but I’m pretty sure the mini one is different.
My more helpful answer is that I believe that the aluminium gear knobs, from the same manufacturer as the handbrake lever, will also soon be available in the UK.
This information is direct from the manufacturers mouth.
