  1. Hi Richard, good lateral thinking but if the threads are stripped in the TA, to cut a decent thread, you must go up in size and will the studding pass through the hub attachment piece, having to enlarge those holes, and there's also the element of the all threaded studding wearing as opposed to the blank parts of the studs?

all i can say is it works fine for me.tap the trailing arm with a tapered tap as far as you can .and even better if you have one use a bottom tap after. they tighten up fine . put some thread lock on as well. the 8 mm stud goes through the hub no problem. if you want to be even safer you can drill the bottom of the hole with the correct size pilot drill another 6mm [put the drill bit in a piece of tube so you dont cut into the side] 8mm taps are cheap and its easier than pissing about with helecoils richard

  2. i have replaced a few of mine by tapping the hole out with a m8 tap. buy a lenght of stainless m8 threaded bar and some nylon lock nuts.tis a course thread& no drilling or helicoils required.

  3. i have SUs on my car.and im very happy with them .however am i missing out ?

can any one tell me how much power each set up puts out.

from owners who have been on a rolling road, not hear say.

my 6 has SUs 6 branch manifold- standard exhaust. big valve high comp head. cam unknown.

whot will it be putting out? i was hovering around the rolling road at malvern last year .

and a dutch chap with a gt6 got 150bhp on SUs. a tr5 pi on the other hand got 128bhp ish.

  4. just got myself some new road wheels and need to shod with tyres! what size is best ? 185 r15 ? 195 r15 ? your comments on this would be welcomed. thanks

just to be diffrent i have 205s on the rear & 195s on the front. wet round abouts arent as much fun though?

  5. i bought a new rear bumper for my car from moss [in one of there sales] didnt fit it for a couple of months while i did the rear end of my car. just over 12 months old probably 10 months on the car [ 1 winter]and the right side is just starting to rust.took it back to moss bradford and the lad there said it was normal they were all like that/should have used chrome polish etc. my advice dont get from moss.

  6. the spigot should be loose and coated in special grease.cant remember whot its called .

if the bush is too tight you will get a whistleing noise when the clutch is pressed.

i fitted a new bush when i did my clutch and it whistled for a short time when new.

    dont glue it in. richard

  7. i have just fitted a oil temp gauge and done apx 600 miles .temp sender in the sump.it takes a long time for the oil to get warm from cold 1/2 an hour to 50c around town. driving on the m way between3500 & 4000 rpm it has never gone above 90c.

once it gets hot its very slow to cool down compared with the water temp gauge

i was going to fit a oil cooler but il wait and see whot its like when it comes warm [might have a long wait]

so if youve got a oil cooler cover it up for winter or fit a thermostat

i tested sender in the top of a thermos flask of boiling water and multimeter with temp probe.

  9. hi i changed my ex us car to SU and it runs fine.up to 36 mpg. i fitted the correct jets needles and springs.

one alteration i did was to make up a new large airbox fed by a large pipe to a free flow air filter.

i dont know how much better it would go with a pi system but reading the forum they can be a lot of bother

    and expense compared with su.

  10. Hello Richard,

  11. black headlining

hi this is my first reply so here goes

i bought a scruffy hardtop last month of ebay, which had a near perfect black headlining

after taking all the glass out etc to repaint i removed the headlining only to find it had been painted black.

after painting i refitted the head lining [start at the back window working to the front]. i got a bit of spray adhesive on the

lining and rubbed it of with a rag and thinners. off came the black paint too. a couple of coats of satin black aerosol and its like new. hope this is some help if you want a black headling or youve got a stained white one.i can send some pictures if any one

    would like . richard 70 jasmine tr6
