  1. Hi all, Its time I started to de-stock some of my TR6 and 5 spares, If anyone out there wants parts and i have got them I can bring them along to the show.

Some stuff has been blasted and powder coated eg running gear, bumper brackets, heaters, hood frames etc etc. some stuff is straight off a car but has yet to be addressed.

I have various good but used panels or panels that could be used for repairing another. Also some old but servicable trim. original windscreens and door glass also bumpers front and back but they might require a rechrome depending on you.

Also used A and J type and 4 speed gearboxes condition unknown - take a chance? used diffs 3.70 3.45 again condition unknown.

If anyone out there is interested please ask -i just may have it.

Any reasonable offer is considered please PM me for details and photos.

I would have posted this on the buy and sell but the list is endless and i have cars to restore.

these are truly bargains that i would rather go to members.

Pre sales are preferred as I will be dragging the stuff a long way and don't want to take it home once its in the UK. I can deliver within reason but prefer collection from the show.

  2. Hi David if the motor has two speeds then the switch maybe is wired up incorrectly one of the spades is for slow one for fast change these over on the switch then slow becomes fast and fast becomes slow maybe its the contact in the switch that is proving defective. I think i have an original one in the garage if you need one. I found the new re-manufactured ones rubbish!

Good gaps achieved during rebuilds is quite easy to do with care and a drop of lead here and there, its not quite so easy on a built car as you do need to be careful when adjusting one thing doesnt alter something else.

    Stuart.

Oh sage like person - how true!:D

  4. Just a thought is the bonnet also bowed slightly and is the height uniform near the scuttle vent? if so then a couple of mm may be gained by flattening out the bonnet again. I have found repo panels to be like this.

  5. Tom, Its a '73 on triple webers. I built it up and its a toy for hill climbs and track days -  I could repair it myself just waiting to see what the damage is in quote.

I do have pre photos I will have to find them though

  6. Actually it happened in the paddock after the session, using a van as a brake. You have to see the funny side of it, no-one was injured or killed,  but thankfully i have some fantastic french friends who calmed it all down and help me sort it all out.

I had track day insurance - for the track but the paddock is like counted as an Aldi car park!

I doubt i'll be out of pocket, but i wasn't in the car, i heard the crunch and arrived 30 seconds later to calm the melee down. Lucky i am fluent in French and know lots of appropriate swear words to shock the  other people as they thought, like my friend who was driving, was a brit. When they found out it was actually my car they were a lot more sympathetic towards me at least.

    Yes Conrad same friend.

  7. Hi All I have a friend here who, having done a full body off restoration that he is just coming to the end of, can no longer drive the car due to personal circumstances. He has asked me to sell it for him on his behalf. I thought that members would be the best place to start so if anyone out there is interested please PM me for photos etc etc

This is a genuine TR5 on injection registered in France.

    Cheers Clem

  8. When shopping around for a conversion remember there are those that have been done properly where you can't  see whether the car was an original LH or RH. and those where you can see as the bolts that hold the pedal box in have been left in and the LH steering column hole is just a grommet and not welded up. Also the area of the FRH inner wing has not been touched and is straight rather than reworked for the injection system.

Prices can vary and it takes a few man hours of doing it correctly hence a higher price. But if you just want a RHD car then very doable.

    Steering rack

    backing dash

    front wooden dash

    RHD clutch set up

    RHD brake servo set up.

    New brake and clutch pipes

Fabricate RHD steering column support bracket

RHD wiring loom (front) (or splice the old one)

    RHD brake and clutch pedals

    RHD accelerator pedal

    RHD accelerator cable

    RHD speedo cable

    welding skills!

The list goes on but can be done in a few days of work.

Don't forget the paint job afterwards.

  9. So ignition switch under steering wheel? I have a couple of originals with keys here. But I am not over until august bath and West show. or take the switch out and take the wiring off the back of the switch and where the key normally turns to contact the wires use a flat bladed screwdriver to test operation it could be just poor contact in there I have one of those too. ;)

  10. I find that people don't convert to sell on they convert to drive a car they want to keep be it LH or RH.

As long as it comes with a carte grise and the numbers match, and it looks like a TR6 and drives like a TR6 they don't seem to care that much on model of TR6.

  11. Have you set up tappets

    Have you checked points gaps

Have you checked fuel pressure at the MU.

Of course its been mentioned on here before but the timing marks on the pulley may not be correct and need to be confirmed.

Try the knurled nut method to get it running sweetly then i suspect that will stop any pinking.

    Good luck

  12. I don't think the conversion would add value, only offer something that a particular person would want, I find here in France that French people tend to shy away from RHD cars but LHD ones are more sought after and they don't seem to mind that much if they are carb or injection, however that said  they are a bit nervous about injection  and finding someone who can set it up and maintain it for them.

Originality is king and price seems to reflect that. As long as it drives like a TR6 then that's fine:D

Does any one have a guide to converting from LHD to RHD?  I have a 1971 Florida car that I've had for 30 years and feel that it may be time to sell (my age). I've been advised by TRGB that the market for LHD is dead since Brexit so a better prospect would be a RHD car. The advice was also not use a repro metal dash but to cut and weld the original! Has any one done this and if so where do you make the cuts. I'm not looking to create a British spec car but simply make one that is easier to drive in the UK. Any advice would be appreciated

I am not sure that the market has changed that much since brexit. Dead certainly not.

It was never big in the first place, but if someone wants a LHD car they will buy it.

I have converted a couple RH -LH for people here, the LH-RH conversion is the opposite way round both relatively easy. Ask Conrad for dash backing, steering rack, pedals, headlights   etc he usually has a bit of stuff laying around.I am sure he can help.

Some people get put off because there is more paperwork involved these days but if you know the system its fairly easy to navigate. Clem
