John,
I don't see that you have changed the distributor cap? A cracked cap can still provide a good spark to #2 but not at the right time.

Hi Roger,
Could it be a faulty plug cap/lead, disturbed during the plug change, working OK for a while?

Hi Ian ~
Try and get your hands on a Laycock clutch assembly. My 3A is fitted as such. Far superior than anything else.
I got mine from John Sykes, TR Bitz.
Tom.
Hi Tom,
That's a TR4A-6 clutch, have you modified your TR3A to fit it?
Ian,
I have used the standard Moss AP clutch with no problems in a US TR6, however I wouldn't use the RHP release bearing.
My TR4A has a GT6 'AP racing' clutch which has been good so far, approx. 50000 miles.

Hi Jim,
I would not be concerned with any of those figures. OK, a little wear on #1 cyl but certainly nothing to worry about, oil pressure is fine.

I think the seat belt mounts are 7/16" UNF and you will find two of these on the chassis.

Learning point for me though ??
Are Tr5s righth hand drive and the 250s left ??
Hamish,
All TR250s left the factory as LHD but many are now converted to RHD.
Some TR5s were supplied as LHD to the continent, etc. Nothing is ever simple!!

This looks to be a decent example too.

Hi Gavin looking at your photos, I would question the use of those star anti shake washers on the sump plate, which would create an ideal path for an oil leak?
Bruce.
The star washers are original fitment by Laycock.

I agree that 3D printing of metal directly is a stretch even for the aerospace guys. But... additive manufacturing may have applications in tooling as well as fabrication of the part itself. Isn't it well within scope of 3D-printing to be able to produce single-use casting forms or press tooling from a scanned digital file of an original prototype?
Castings for steam engines are still cast using traditional methods but the use of laser measuring and 3D printing of patterns has reduced the cost significantly.
A few locomotives have now had replacement cylinder castings using this method which would have been prohibitively expensive in the past.

Roger,
I would be checking the diff mounts for cracking around the top of the pin. Front offside is usually the first to go.

Yes they did as per the last L/Hand drive TR5 that I did, genuine Malines built car.
Stuart.
Thanks Stuart.

Hi Jim,
Normally only one stabiliser, perhaps previous owner fitted extra gauges?

Did the LHD TR5 have the extra warning lights and hazard switch that the 250 has? The photo of the TR5 dash has them.

Willie,
The release brg in your picture looks like it has a flat face. If it is, I think this is wrong. Have a look at Stuart's photo for the correct shape.Rubbish, I think that is just the difference between TR4 & TR4A.

Vancouver Island does play a significant part of our trip.
But you never know. Could sell it as getting local recommendations for what to see and do.

Hamish,
Just seen this, PM sent.

Just for completeness, my dashboard arrived last week, only one year after standing in Ian's workshop discussing my requirements.
As others have said, the quality is excellent but he could really do with a partner to run the business while he gets the craftsman bit done.

In the past I have had several sets of M1144 brake pads and always supplied with self adhesive anti-squeal pads to go on the back. However, I just purchased a new set for my TR250, different packaging and no anti-squeal shims or pads supplied.
These were all bought in the UK as Mintex don't seem to supply in North America.

Rod,
I have tried walnut shell with very poor results after about six hours vibrating. I gave up and went back to glass blasting.
Maybe I should try with crushed glass or oxide. I don't think soda would work well in a vibrating cleaner.

Andy,
I use one of the small Halfords car caps, perfect size for a TR. Mine has lasted 11 years so far.

We have been in BC, Canada for over eight years now and this is the first time I have seen an accident which appears to be caused by mechanical failure.
Perhaps there is a case for annual inspection.

Darren, Tony,
Perhaps I should have included a smiley or two in my post. I was not upset or offended in anyway, life's too short.
I was just making the point that it was not possible to visit a closed group.

The electric fan on my 4A never comes on while the car is in motion and I have been in some very hot temps in South of France and California. I usually switch the fan on manually in standing traffic which keeps the underbonnet temp down.

Roger, I believe GL5 is OK in the diff as there is no yellow metal in the diff,

Dont think its all bad...Take a visit to the Tr5 page and see its just a little more light hearted but well managed and adds value to the service for owners...
T
Tony, The TR5 facebook group is a closed group restricted to TR5 owners so we lesser mortals can't 'visit' the page.
Apparently TR250 owners are not welcome.

Peter,
TR5/250/6 have a different shape at the bottom edge compared with 4/4A. Correct part # for TR5/250/6 is 820508
