  2. Hi Neale,

For overdrive to operate on 2/3/4 you need two isolator switches.  If there is no boss for a second one you may have an early 2 top cover, or even gearbox.  Check the gearbox number on the raised oval section on the left hand side of the box.  Even better post a couple of pictures.

  3. This has been covered here on more than one occasion.  This is what you need to do:

'Somewhere in the small print on the checker it explains that (for London only) it only checks the emissions standard of the vehicle not the VED status.  To check whether you need to pay the charge go to the 'Pay to Drive in London' page and continue as if paying, it will then show the vehicle as exempt and no charge payable.'

  4. Just an update on the fibre washers which may help someone.  I've been helping a friend get his car going after an engine rebuild, all OK apart from a petrol leak at the banjo bolts.  Noticed that he had fitted two fibre washers between the banjo and the bolt head, removed one of them and bingo.  Two washers leak, one washer seals.

  5. It's not quite like either of my sidescreen 'boxes (early 3 and early 3A).  They both have only two bosses on top and no side drilling.  I believe the early 2 'box only had one boss - o/d on top gear only.

The dipstick hole does suggest a sidescreen item but could it be from another Triumph.  That dipstick hole looks as if it may be threaded which it shouldn't be as the dipstick is a push fit.

  6. Hi Richard,

The banjo bolt should be sealed with a pair of fibre washers which are AUC2141.  You can buy them all over the place as they were fitted to so many cars, probably only cost about 50p.

Failing that why not take a bolt to the show to see what fits.

  7. Hi Mauro,

Instruction manuals were only described as TR3 but the sixth edition was dated 1962 so probably covers the 3B as it also refers to the 2138 engine as standard with 1991 as an option.  I do have the UK version but there are various foreign versions although they are quite rare.

In motor industry speak rationalised usually means an item that is used across a range of cars in this case it refers to the TR4 all synchro gearbox which was fitted to the TCF cars.

I am not 100% sure but believe that Duplo headlights have a yellow tinted bulb with a vertical dip lens - possibly an Italian requirement at the time?

    Regards

  8. Assuming they are referring to alkylate fuel it's hardly new I have been running my garden machinery on it for years.  It runs smoother and produces far less harmful emissions which is a real bonus when using chainsaws etc at close quarters.  One drawback is the price, at around £25 per gallon it is not really feasible (for me anyway) in the TR.

If the Porsches can cope with an octane rating of around 94 they should be OK.

It is still a fossil fuel though.

  9. Hi Keith,

I wrote about a set very similar to these (made by JC Whitney) in TRaction 342, although they did need recovering and new perspex.  I'd appreciate a scan of all the instructions when you have a moment.  Not sure what they would be worth though.

They do say suitable for TR2-3-4, don't know how they would fit on a 4!

  10. 13 hours ago, Lebro said:

TR2/3/3A bodies carry two numbers, both on small brass plates screwed to the front bulkhead just above the battery tray. One of these plates has an "EB" prefix and a number near, but usualy slightly higher than the car's commission number. The other plate has a straight six- or seven figure number with neither prefix nor suffix. Only this latter number appears in the factory build records held by the BMIHT, no records relating to the "EB" number being known to survive. It is believed that the six- or seven figure number was allocated to the bare bodyshell by Mulliners, the manufacturers, whereas the "EB" number was a Standard-Truimph one allocated to the complete trimmed body

For a variety of reasons it is now thought that it is the other way round.
