  1. Can anyone help with this one, as I’m no auto electrician. My brake lights are not working, only discovered on a run out on Sunday with my local group (North Wales). A group member has spent some time today trying to narrow down the problem. Firstly, all other lights work ok, including side lights. Bulbs checked, all ok. Fuses all ok too. There is power to the brake light switch, but nothing at the brake light connectors. Poor earth? Or could it be a faulty/failed switch?

as ever, any help will be much appreciated.

  2. It’s happened a few time now. Following a downpour, or an over enthusiastic car wash with hose sprinkler, I get a wet leg when moving off. I cannot find where exactly it’s coming from, but it pours down from behind the dash just to the right of the steering column. There are one or two areas in the corner drainage channel of the bonnet that look suspect. No rust or rotting that I can discern. Windscreen seal is not brilliant but would not, in my opinion, be the cause of the deluge. As ever, all contributions gratefully received.

    cheers

  3. My annoying rattle turned out to be loose plates located just behind each b-pillar. These plates were previously used to secure the folding hood mechanism that had been made redundant following conversion to Surrey Top - at least that’s my theory.

I have one on order from Demon Tweeks. Unfortunately the smaller version is out of stock at the moment. Contacted them and they should be back in stock over next few days !!

    Love that rolled edge !!

Hi Rob, I’d be grateful for an update once you’ve fitted yours!

I think the external pipe diameter is 1 3/4”. Or almost 45 mm.   It used to be an Harmo TT176.   We stocked and sold them for the regular mild steel exhaust but then stainless came along and the pipe ends got polished.   And there went another product.

Depending on which side of the rubber strap the rear exhaust is currently mounted you may be able to move the pipes rearward by the thickness of the rubber and mounting bracket.   Just a thought.

You must measure the pipe diameter before ordering of course as over the years the exhausts have not remained as original.

     Something like this perhaps?

Thanks Peter W, unfortunately the eBay offerings appear to be same as Halfords offerings!

  6. I have twin stainless pipes that are a little shorter than I would like. Because of this they both disclour the rear bumper and blow back into the cabin when the roof is off. I have tried fitting some extending tips bought from Halfords (which have been returned, as really poor quality). Can anyone recommend a suitable supplier, preferably not made in the far east!!

  7. Hi John, yes they are 72 spoke. Made by MWS. Tyres are Toyo 195/65R/15.

    Thanks for the compliments

    Love the car!

Question about the wheels and tyres (which look great). Are they 72 spoke, standard ie. not centre laced, and what size tyres? I'm currently looking to refit my 4A and yours look nicely proportioned.

    Thanks, John

  8. Maybe a silly question but…when my car was sold to me it was described as being Midnight Blue. I was new to the mark and had not done a great deal of homework. I bought it from a well known classic car dealer (not a TR specialist).

My curiosity has been raised as many TR members have corrected me when I’ve described the colour, telling me that Midnight Blue is not a Triumph colour and in fact the colour, I’m told is Royal Blue.

So which is it? Midnight or Royal?

it doesn’t bother me either way as I love the colour but it would be nice to know. Can anyone help?

For information, I have the Heritage certificate - it was white when built!

  9. Update - I am pleased to report that my new seats were installed last Thursday.
I chose the MX5 type with detachable headrest. They were fitted by Carl from TR Trader and I must say I’m very pleased with the results. Very firm and solid with leather facings. Only driven a few miles to test but so far so good. A good match for the rest of the interior too.

My compliments to Carl, what a nice guy to do business with.

It’s £10 from Halfords just buy a new one and be sure- not a lot in the scheme of things surely ? It’s insurance from potentially expensive engine damage, even stored in the garage if the winter continues to be so cold and variable with this freeze thaw.

A word of warning - I used the link above and entered my reg number…message came back stating not suitable for my car (TR4a)
