  1. Hi Guys and Girls,

I am looking to replace the tyres on my TR6.

The above Company has been recommended to me by my local Classic car restorer. They really rate them and recommend them to all their clients

I would like to stay with original UK tyre size 165 x 80 x 15, as these fill the wheel arches.

They are also V rated up to 149mph - Not that I intend to do that speed, even if the car was capable

They are also very competitively priced compared to the Big brands

Has anyone used these tires on your TR6 or other classic. If so, what is your opinion of them.

They are only available direct from the Company. No middle man.

    Please see link :  www.blockleytyre.com/product/165vr15

    Regards,

    David

  2. Hi Guys and Girls,

Has anyone on here had any dealings with County Classic cars in Midhurst. They also have a workshop in Fernhurst.

I am thinking about have all my TR6 suspension bushes replaced with poly bushes.

Have the cars tracking done, once replaced

    Have a new MOT done

This Company have quoted quite competitively for this work.

Paul & his son plus one other mechanic seem very knowledgeable about TR6s

The currently have two E type jaguars in for restoration.

I am looking for anyone who has had any work carried out by this Company. Can you recommend their work and are they true to their quotes

Any info anyone has would be gratefully appreciated

I attach their logo and website

    Many thanks

    David

  3. Hi All

Many thanks for all your comments

I seem to have opened up a can of worms on this one.

I do not have a cooling problem on my car, even during the summer here in the UK

My take, from all your responses are

It seems our cars do not need the internal cowling to maintain a good engine temperature.

If one was fitted, as like the old mini, it would help maintain better cooling whilst in traffic jams.

I know my intake filter is not original, but it does work well.

I am thinking about adding a length of tubing and putting the filter closer to where the original intake filter was placed, so as to maintain cool air to the intake manifold.

If I then add a cowling to the back of the radiator, as in the old mini, it should improve airflow through the radiator, keeping the engine cooler.

    Hope this makes sense

    No

David, do you have a heating problem?

I know this can be controversial but I do not have any shrouds.

No I don't have a heating problem. Just wanted to know if I was missing one. Thanks

  5. Hi Everyone,

Looking for some more help please.

My car has the radiator shroud from the grill to the front of the radiator. The usual cardboard one.

My question is, should there be another shroud on the inside of the radiator, between the engine, enclosing the fan it self.

Would this not pull more of the cold air through the radiator, to help with cooling.

Does anyone have the inside fan shroud fitted to their car. ??

If so could you advise where you purchased it from please & how much you paid for it.

I attach a photo of my engine bay, which shows where it should go. If there is such a shroud

    Thanks

    David

  6. A big shout out again to Steve Derbyshire again.

Steve came to my house again today to help me install and set up my new refurbished injectors.

A true gentleman in helping out a newby, in getting my TR6 operational again.

    Car is running perfectly

Many thanks Steve, hope you enjoy the wine.

  7. I would like to register my gratitude and thanks to Steve Derbyshire for his offer of help with my car.

He very successfully re timed my car and fixed a faulty distributor bracket for me.

Despite doing this, there was still a running issue with the car.

First job was to check spark plugs. No change to engine performance.

2nd job was to check injectors. One found to be totally blocked and a second was partially blocked.

After cleaning and bleeding the two faulty injectors, the car now runs perfect.

We agreed a refurbished set of injectors are required. Once I have them in my possession he has kindly offered to come back and help me fit them.

What a true gentleman Steve is, to give up his time and knowledge to help another TR Register member.

    Many thanks Steve

    Regards,

    David

  8. Hi Guys & Girls,

Just wondering if there is anyone in the Guildford area that could come to me and help me set up my cars timing.

For some reason my distributor has come loose and moved. Not running smoothly and back firing

I can get it running by guess work, but it is not happy.

I need someone who has a timing light and knows where it needs to be set.

Thanks in advance for any help.

    Regards,

    David

  9. Hi Harvey

    Thanks for your reply

Sometimes my top position stops and parks

Other times goes into continuous fast mode.

The only position which works all the time is the second position, which is slow wipe

Middle position always seems to turn them off, but not park

Maybe the wiring on the back is wrong ???

    David

  10. Hi Guys,

This may sound like a strange question.

I am having problems with my wiper switch.

First of all, where is the off position. Top or middle of switch ?

Am I correct in thinking the following :-

Middle position of switch is the off position

Top position of switch is fast wipe

Bottom position of switch is normal wipe

Or am I completely wrong ?????

The reason for asking is sometimes they stop and park when the switch is in the top position

Here is a photo of my wiper switch

    Many thanks for any help

  11. Thanks guys.

I tried doing it through the ashtray without success.

It was like trying to paint the hallway through the letter box.

The reason for posting in the first place was to find out how other people had done it before.

As alternative suggestions were not that forthcoming, I looked at other options myself.

The way I did it may not have been the way others did it, but it worked for me.

It gave me plenty of room to get my hand behind the dash to unscrew the tabs holding the gauge in place, without disturbing anything else.

I was then able to pull gauge out of dash and change pipe.

I thought by sharing this I would be helping others.

Seems some people are quick to tell you that you did it wrong, but were not as quick to offer advise on how to do it right, rather than just comment, Through the ashtray.

I will think more carefully before posting in the future.

  12. Hi Guys and Girls,

I have managed to complete this job.

I undid all screws from glove box.

Undid heater pipes and removed support bracket.

This allowed me to move the glove box far enough back to get my hand behind the dashboard and unscrew the gauge bracket and and pull it out of the front of the dash.

From here it was easy to fit the new oil tube and feed it back into the engine bay.

Reconnected both ends and tested for leaks. NO LEAKS.

Reversed procedure to put it all back together.

    Happy days

Hope this helps anyone else needing to do this.

  13. Hi Guys & Girls,

Looking for some help with replacing my oil pressure pipe. RHD CP car

I have a slight leak on the engine side of the pipe. Tried tightening the nuts, without success. Still leaking

I have a new pipe from Rimmers. I can see how it's fixed the engine end, pretty straight forward.

Can you get to the gauge end of pipe, without taking the dash out?? Don't want to do this.

How easy is it to do from underneath the dash ?

How easy is it to just remove just the oil pressure gauge

Anyone done this before who can share how they did it.

Not loosing a lot of oil, but very concerned it might let go while I am driving. That wouldn't be good for engine.

Thanks for any help or advise.

    David

  14. Hi Guys and Girls,

Has anyone fitted these K&N Air filters to their TR6. CP 150 fuel injection cars

What are your thoughts on these re performance / noise / fitting vs the standard set up

I have the single K&N filter on the end of air intake manifold at the moment

Anyone have any photos of them on their car, if so could you please share.

    Regards,

    David

    Hi Magnus,

Do you by any chance still have any TR6 ignition key blanks available.?

If so, how much would you want for one please ?

Just be aware that R14 is not a high pressure fuel hose, so not suitable for the high pressure side of a PI system - but definitely ok for a low pressure filler connection!

David - I’m not that far from you (Weybridge) so happy to help once lockdown eases. As others have said, it sounds like your first check is is the filler connections, easily accessed by removing the boot trim.

I can recommend Rees Bros in Aldershot if you need a decent TR garage close by. You also have Crown Classics up in Twickenham.

    Welcome to TR6 ownership!

Many thanks Steve. It looks like my fuel pipes are new, as does the Bosch fuel pump & filter. Think I have tracked it to the fuel sender gasket, which I have ordered. Glad you are close by and really appreciate your offer to help, after lockdown. This is my 1st TR6, which is taking some getting used too. I am taking the car to Rees Bros on Thurs as they are going to help me with bonnet alignment and adjust my exhaust pipe, which appears to be quite low to the ground. I might get them to do the sender gasket while I am there.

The cap on my car is I believe a US spec one and it has a 'breather port visible when the cap is open, think this went to the charcoal canister on us spec cars, but as I didi n't have the canister fitted (its a UK car) and the plug in the breather port wasn't doing its job, spilt fuel collected in the port and then dripped into the boot, plus when the weather got warm (not a situation we have at the moment !) the fuel vapour would vent via this port back into the boot.

A blob of araldite  and all sorted now

But guess it will be a case of  completely emptying the boot inc the trim, looking back up this thread,  look at all the 'possibles' then work through them until you find you culprit.

But if it ONLY smells after filing up then logic would dictate starting at the top and working down

Many thanks Graham. Further inspection suggests it's the cork gasket on the fuel sender.
