Was nice to meet you Roger, I'd not realised it was you...from 'here', so I can put a face to a name at last.

    Gareth.

I've been trying to get him to visit the Sir John Soanes museum in Lincoln's Inn Field to see his namesake's paintings The Rake's Progress and An Election, without success, see if you can talk him into it.

  2. I bought a new one for the 4A. Hard top fitted no problems, soft top was an inch or two short.

Tried stretching the soft top by clamping it and suspending weights on the other end, for warmth/heat AUS summer or a fan blower.

Also undid the windscreen rake bolts and applied maximum rearwards rake. It went back an inch or so. (Hard top still fitted OK after this.)

This allowed me to get the soft top on, with a few breaks to rest the arm muscles.

One of the variables was the tight fit of the front bit under the metal plate at the top of the windscreen, at first it didn't really go under fully.

After several fittings the front bit must have 'squished' down a bit and went fully into position, and fitting became fairly straightforward and fast.

  3. Sorry can't help it!! (Dunno where else to put it.)

During last trip to the UK Roger and Bev took me to a beaut old pub right on the bank of the Thames, for a pint.

While we were batting the breeze a swan swam up to see what was on offer at the riverside.

Couldn't resist saying 'that's weird, look at the colour of that swan!!!'

    (Ours look like this.)

Sorry to resurrect on an old thread, but my TR4A SRA exhibits quite a bit of yaw or torque steer, pulling to the right on acceleration and then shifting back to the left when I let off. I acquired this car only recently and the past history is a bit unknown. The previous owner was not the "mechanical" type.

This behaviour on my 4A ceased after I shimmed the rear suspension on both sides  to zero toe in.

  5. from memory I used an electric heat gun plus scraper to shift the bulk of it, finished the job back to bare metal with the garnet blaster.

Wanted to see if there were any surprises  underneath before redoing it.

The paintwork on the outside of the mudguards had looked pretty good, but I found a few bodges underneath when the paint came off.

  6. I had an identical experience when bringing the 4A from Melbourne to home in Canberra. Had run beautifully for about 350 miles then ran like a dog for the last hundred after a fuel fill at Yass (about 80-90miles).

When I got home I was able to find a nice dose of water in the tank and in the fuel bowl it has up in the engine compartment. When I did the total refurbishment I also found a lot of rust and crud in the tank that could shift to cover the fuel outlet from the tank, especially when the fuel level was low. I guess when the tank was fuller it could swish past the outlet more easily.
