  1. A while back we used to often see a notice around the place, aimed at keeping the place tidy,  saying 'Bill posters will be prosecuted'.

Some time later we would see written across the notice# 'Bill Posters is innocent!'

    # suspect the author was an ace at cryptic crosswords.

  2. I had the interesting experience of being overtaken by my right hand rear wheel spinner on a local drive. Luckily the wheel stayed on while I pulled over to the side of the road, in order to go and get it.

Previous owner had put them on the wrong sides. Dunno how I survived the 500 mile trip from Melbourne to Canberra with no problems, but was pretty happy that I did.

Bought the copper headed hammer soon after that.

    "Levelling up", or down?

A while ago here, I told of the failure of the Gov to supply my local project with vaccine, so that despite its early and impressive success in vaccinating 80% of the over 80s and 'vulnerable' in the area, the clinics had to close down completely.      I was scolded by Suzeanne for a selfish attitude, when my wish was not to deprive others of the vaccine, but to enable all to continue to the best of the NHS's ability.      It has always had a limited budget, and now has a limited supply of vaccine - the NHS has always been about rationed healthcare.

Is the problem lack of supply or lack of enough purchases? Either way it is rather sad.

Our mob have arranged to buy more than enough but are waiting for all the i's to be dotted and t's to be crossed on the test trials.

With the rigid outbreak control system this isn.t causing problems. The tennis players are currently our main source.

My expectaion now is that my PD arose from a combination of chronic low D3, leading to persistent viral infections in winter, viral infection of brain via nose (or spike proteins), brain inflammation with poor on-off regulation due to...low D3.

If I have it (or get it) I'll be blaming the light ale.

The Aussies have another advantage that I should not mention on this thread, but will. Taking Adelaide as an example thir meand 25(OH)D is 70 nmol/L compared with UK ca 50  https://bmcpublichealth.biomedcentral.com/articles/10.1186/1471-2458-14-100UK summer level rises to ca 70nmol/L and C-19 deaths plummet.  I dont see Oz being protected by its isolation, rather its sunshine. The downside to all that sun is nasties lurking in the undergrowth...lethal brown snakes..spiders....

    Pete,

while we can credit the the Oz sun with a few bonus points (the 'slip, slap, slop' campaign has in fact dropped our Vit D levels), the State (and Federal) authorities have to be given the credit for our low infection and death rates.

They stepped in very early, locked down outbreak areas, restricting movement, and put considerable resources into contact tracing and isolation. It seems the countries with high rates of transmission avoided lockdown, putting economic interests ahead of health interests.

Victoria has  locked up quite a few overseas tennis players recently, some of whom initially whinged at what is, for them, a new experience compared to home.

The Kiwis did a better job of it than Oz, and they are at latitudes getting close to UK latitudes (circa 34 to 47deg - NZ ; circa 50 to 55deg -UK).

Keep up your Vit D but get the jab as well.

On Nov 6 the elderly in nursing homes In Andalucia were given oral calcifediol ( 25(OH)D3 which acts quicker than oral D3) Dosage not given. Here is a plot of deaths,  updated to today

No vaccinations, no change to isolation. This is D3 in action, saving lives.

We saw Gerry and the Pacemakers in their later touring years. They were very good but thought that the name 'Pacemakers' wasn't the best name for the old rockers. One of them came on stage on crutches and had to sit down. I guess none of them ever thought they would still be playing into their old age.

Very sad to hear that Gerry departed this earth though. Will have to get their 45's out to play again.

    Keith

Dunno about that. probably some or all had pacemakers fitted by then.

  8. For some reason (?the  bloke with the torch?) you've reminded me of one of my RAAF mates who brought a Canberra bomber back to Oz for a major service.

The customs man at Darwin went over it with a fine tooth comb and after finding nothing asked my mate ' how do I get the seat out?' (?? to look underneath??)

The answer he got was "see that handle there, you pull that!!"

  9. You might get a larf from this. I sent the following text to the 'fishing week' blokes. 'Navy' gave me the reply in Italics.

Had to renew my licence yesterday.
The young lady asked me if I wanted a 10 year renewal or a 5 year renewal.
Considered the facts, and thought a 5 year job might more realistic (financially(?)) despite the discount.

Good move. I don't buy green bananas anymore. I was 80 on 4th December.

  10. Suspect the money is better spent on kit that puts the sound into a pair of headphones. (personal experience.)

Forum age group average probably means that age related  high frequency hearing loss means the money spent on the beaut cable won't result in anything extra actually being heard.

In my case, weapons training prior to the introduction of hearing protection, means I really get my money's worth out of the headphones.

  11. Ian,

From memory the boat tank will allow me to screw down  a gizmo that stops the tank venting, but I don't, it's knackered.

Why don't you ask Shell UK what they reckon about UK fuel life.

The fuels are usually tuned to the local climate so things may be very different over there compared to Oz, plus government regulations may also vary what you get at the bowser.
