  1. Sorry, John. I've not noticed any problem.

We are constantly upgrading the forum software and I think the version we have now is pretty good.

I will look into the Quick Edit problem though.

    Cheers,

PS. Just trying the quick edit myself here.

Yep, it appears to be working ok for me?

  2. Excellent! Many thanks for the very helpful replies. A friend of mine was enquiring; he knows a chap who has a weak left leg wants to drive a TR3.

Your help is invaluable and may make a chap very happy indeed.

    Thanks!

  3. Hi all,

Wharfedale member Paul Smith got a 1st at this year's Newby Hall Classic car event. This show is a big one-day show with over 1000 cars taking part.

I was admiring the entries when I stumbled across a very proud Paul Smith with his 8 year restoration project, and very nice it was to!

I took a photos with Paul's camera and asked him to email them with further details. Pauls said:

"A bit of back ground on the TR3 -

It is a 1956 model, Reg 131UXM. It is a US import from Texas, brought back into UK late 1996 and I bought it off Gary Bates in Feb 1997. The car although quite delapidated was pretty much complete. Usual dry (US) state story - 'rust free' - meaning the extent of the rust really only come apparent after you strip off the paint rather than before it ! When it turned up at my house on a trailor, my wife doubted my sanity, which wasn't so bad - I hate to think what see would have said about some of the mounds of rust I'd viewed !

So then ensued 8 years of glorious restoration!? - every molecule of the car must have felt loved by the time I'd done. With a massive 'can do' attitude I took on welding in new panels, panel beating, filling (lots), spraying (20 layers in all), engine / gearbox box rebuilds. I swapped it over to rhd and put in rack n pinion. I renovated wherever possible as many of the new parts were inferior to the originals. I figured out how to manourvre the body tub around single handed using tyres. I fixed a pulley up to allow me to rotate it through 360 degrees when I was doing the spraying - neccessity being the mother of invention. So I learned a hell of a lot en route and enjoyed most of it, not all - I'm not totally mad. There was no rush, so if it got tedious, I'd back off, regroup and continue later. Complted may 21st 2005.

I'm proud to say that I did it all myself apart from covering the seats and getting the cylinder head planed and new value seats fitted for unleaded petrol. In my mind half the fun was the build and now I enjoying the other half - the driving.

Winning the best of class (post war 1940-1958 open top) at Newby today was some endorsement of my labours.

Ps. I noticed that two other TRs made it into the arena at Newby - a TR3a and TR6 and no MGB's :-)"

Congratulations Paul on an excellent and well deserved win!

    Cheers!

  4. North Yorks Moors Railway held a gala weekend on Saturday and Sunday, and I dropped down to Levisham and met new members Dave & Sue Platts from Teesside.

Here are pictures of their superb TR4a IRS

Sorry they are not the sharpest photos, but they were taken with my telephone.

Dave and Sue are pictured in the right hand side photo immediately behind the car (not the guy bending over!).

My brother in law, Max, is lusting after Dave's car on the left!

  5. The search feature is designed to allow you to quickly find topics and posts that contain the keywords you enter.

There are two types of search form available, simple search and advanced search. You may switch between the two using the 'More Options' and 'Simple Mode' buttons.

    Simple Mode

All you need to do here is enter in a keyword into the search box, and select a forum(s) to search in. (to select multiple forums, hold down the control key on a PC, or the Shift/Apple key on a Mac) choose a sorting order and search.

    Advanced Mode

The advanced search screen, will give you a much greater range of options to choose from to refine your search. In addition to searching by keyword, you are able to search by a members username or a combination of both. You can also choose to refine your search by selecting a date range, and there are a number of sorting options available. There are also two ways of displaying the search results, can either show the post text in full or just show a link to the topic, can choose this using the radio buttons available.

If the administrator has enabled it, you may have a minimum amount of time to wait between searches, this is known as search flood control.

There are also search boxes available at the bottom of each forum, to allow you to carry out a quick search of all of the topics within that particular forum.

    Search strings:

    Use = Means

apple banana = Find posts that contain at least one of these words

+apple +juice = Find posts with both words

+apple -juice = Find posts with 'apple' but not 'juice'

apple* = Find posts with 'apple' and/or 'applesauce'

"Some Words" = Find posts with the phrase 'some words of wisdom', 'some words' but not 'some noise words'

  6. Hi Alec,

of course you are absolutely correct. The Jag for longer journeys and the TR for everything else.

This picture demonstrates my idyll. I turned up at my favourite pub in my favourite village; the publican ran out and thrust a pint of great Yorkshire beer into my hand. (Timothy Taylors of Black Sheep, I can’t remember which… or was it Copper Dragon?) Anyway, as you can see, I have my beautiful wife with me, my Welsh Springer, Murphy, and the TR – perfect.

My daughters say this picture sums me up completely…. I think that they’re right!

  7. Hi all, Well, I have just got my TR3a back on the road after a few weeks with the engine out. New pistons, wet liners, crank polished and balanced etc. I have already done nearly 600 miles and loving every mile!

As some of you may know, I am also lucky enough to own an E Type. You know what? The TR3a is more fun any day of the week.

That's not to say that the Jag is poor - far from it, it's brilliant. But when it comes to having a blast around the countryside, taking Murphy out for a walk in the woods or the moors, then the TR wins hands down - it's fantastic.

Preaching to the converted here. But hey, I'm as chuffed as a chocolate frog.

    Cheers,

    Webby

  8. A friend of mind has been working an old TR3 box (with o/d) and all looks ok.  However, he has noticed that it keeps jumping out of 2nd and 3rd.

Has anyone any idea of what may be causing it and if they have experienced a similar problem?  What is the best remedy?

Any ideas will be gratefully received!
