Not the case James, got quoted 300+ euros for an old ( 1997 ) BMW 323i plus cost for altering lights to euro spec. Didn't bother to look into a much more valuable TR

Hi all, I know this is an old topic, but last info I can find is 2008 posting.
I would like to replace LH lower, mine has one vertical split. My question is what does the offering from Rimmer/Moss look like? I'm not keen on an obviously new part on a very original white dash.Have people gone down the recovering route ( diy or professional )
Many thanks John Mellor

My tap won't turn and it doesn't leak, so its good news and bad news. However the tap is jammed in the block and I was afraid to use force lest I end up with a leak and a broken tap stuck in the thread. Chickened out and just flush coolant via rad plug. Anyone got thoughts on this

I might add that it's quite widespread over the glass. Did raise the issue a while back but the subsequent info didn't reassure me

Hi all wondered if anyone had experience of these kits. My screen has lots of fine scratches, troublesome when sun is low. I'm wary of causing more problems

Jase, that exhaust is embarrassing, rather like tucking a banana down your budgie smugglers

Many thanks folks I'll go through those suggestions. Will be nice to have a peaceful interior???????
Love mechanical noises from front end and exhaust.

Yes I know it's a TR4!! At first thought it was glove box door. But no, glove box is secure. Passenger door secure with no play in hinge. Can't see anything obvious underneath the car. Has been present for ages but seemed more annoying on my first run this month.
Seems to be from left side forward if the seat. Perhaps I'm just getting older and more picky but probably more to do with road surfaces these days.

Are there taxes to pay on importation of a vehicle to UK. I looked into importing a tr4 into Spain ( I have a holiday home ) and it seemed so expensive that I dropped the idea

I am absolutely in awe of you guys

Many thanks, after reassembly it was obvious that there is much less friction in the jet movement. On examination the old cork washers were hard and were, I guess, the main culprit; deposits on moving surfaces of carb can't have helped as well.
I now have a much easier pull on the choke and a lovely blue flame in the Gunson p!ug and nice rhythmic beat of exhaust on idle. Feeling very smug and desperate for dry weather ( Dixon doesn't like getting his feet wet !! )

Used a disc cutter, damaged the ( lower jet bearing ) simply ordered that and mixture nut from rimmers.. Could have saved several hours of frustration

Hi all, after replacing seals, cork washers in the carbs realized the jet height adjustment nut is seized on the thread of the lower jet bearing and the pair of them just rotate within the jet locking nut.
Any ideas? Tried penetrating oil, heat but no go. Guess it's possible thread is crossed, is this why I couldn't sort out running rich
-
Thanks John, this is only 30 minutes away from me

Thanks Steve, should have said I have a TR4 sounds a good idea to look at that. Did you replace the gaskets and washers as well.

Hi all, started looking into why he runs rich and found that there is surprising resistance to up/down movement of the jet bearing when moving the jet lever by hand when jet control connecting rod is disconnected. Is this normal? I realise that there are washers and seals which introduce friction resisting the movement but how much and might this be an explanation for running rich? The jet needle looks fine with no ridges and it seemed properly central.
Guess for many of you this is food and drink but never got into the carb inners on my TR2 ( UTU888 ) all those decades ago and despite my senility I'm a carb virgin!!

Hi folks, some interesting comments here but for the plodders like me who rarely feel much in the way of over or understeer it's the appalling road surfaces that dominate the pleasure in driving the car. Too high and one's fillings come loose due to potholes - too low and slushy feel to the car.
Bog standard suspension and 28 all round was wonderful on the generally fine Spanish road surfaces. Here in Essex 24 all round helps the ride on our awful pot holed roads

H6 carbs with solid wire inner choke cable
-
Hi all, no doubt me being dumb (again). Realised the choke isn't completely closed when knob pushed home - no doubt relates to rich running prob. Despite repeatedly adjusting inner cable I can still manually just nudge the lever a smidgeon. Suspect the linkages in the mechanism or brittle SU cork seals are the problem.
Got SU service kits but am somewhat intimidated by this never having done this before.
TIA for help/ideas
Please wait while image is uploading... -
Many thanks folks, no luck so far

Hi all, just a punt here; I understand this car was featured in Practical Classics or one of the other similar publications sometime around 2009 ( ish ). I would dearly like to add this publication to the already fair sized file I have - any help in identifying or locating a copy of the mag would be gratefully received

Bought my ex police 4 during lockdown, my son suggested that I was one of a dying breed and should have got a fast Ford if future value was important.
He may well be right; clearly high end classics can be an investment but my car puts a smile on peoples faces as well as my own - priceless

That looks impressive Richard, did you have failures before finally cracking it. What glue did you use? Adhesive and my limited talent don't blend well judging by my attempts with boot rubber
