thanks Jon - good idea on the stainless ties. i will be speaking with emerald again and go with there advice. On the seven, i had an innovate LC1 which regularly gave trouble - may look at the more modern versions for the TR6. You guys seem to know so much more than me - i really am a novice on much of this !!! thanks all.

agree on open loop to extent, but from past experience on my lotus 7 with an omex system, the wideband 02 was tempermental / not as good as a proper RR set up. the omex RR guy told me the O2 was not needed once set up. . There is a lot to set up and get right / check in the emerald settings, and i am not 100% confident without going to them .

I meant tweaking the fuel map and ignition map. At RR , they will use their own 02 sensor. Fair comment on cable ties - will look at this / find a solution. - have doubled up ties since the picture.

Is there a way of doing a basic leak down without a specify leak test gauge kit. I do have air compressor and basic compression tester (cheap eBay type).

yes car had stood for a while, but i did rebuild the head. in hinesite i should have invested in rings / honed it and spent more time on seating valves. It does run ok ish - have had to tweak the MAP settings to get it somewhere near ok. Have only done about 50 miles, so maybe will settle in. I am kind of set on getting it set up properly with emerald first, run for a few hundred miles and monitor. Failing that, i will pull the head over winter / maybe pull engine if i need to - may have to do this anyway as need to sort my A type OD which is not engaging currently
thanks for all your comments / advice

I re-did the comp test on 5 and 6 on a cold engine last night and got similar low readings (as the garage) - not sure if it is normal to have such low readings when cold ? I am actually taking the car to emerald (manufacturers of ECU) to their RR next week (not the original garage) - i am not confident in my set up settings on the ECU with ignition timing, fuel and map generally and want to take their expert advice on the set up / make sure the ECU is functioning correctly etc.
-
Thanks - that may make sense - i did grind them in, but have to say its my first attempt. I have tweaked the map in the ecu, and it seems better - i hve a full session on RR next week to get it mapped - after that i think i will let it settle in and consider re grinding valves over winter. Thanks for help.

valve clearances all good. No apparent loss of oil.
-
yes plugs out WOT
-
thanks , will look at valve clearances first. Not sure on oil consumption - not gone far yet -!!! no smoking evident - will dip the oil / check and monitor. Runs ok ish, but still need the ecu / efi mapped properly

Anyone know what thread / bolt size the 6 bolts / are that attach the steering wheel to the hub/boss - i have lost one in the rebuild - looks to be a coarse thread of some type - tried google and she wont let me know ! TIA
-
Anyone know where the steel window channel section (looks to be 1/2") can be sourced at a reasonable cost ? Mine are shot with rust - I read the thread about refurbing them / using Velcro linings and saw something on old land rover channel fitting the TR6, but regardless struggling to find a supplier. The new channels with brackets are ridiculous in cost !!! TIA

Hi,
Any tips on spanner / socket type to access the 3 nuts that secure the throttle bodies - spanner wont fit in the well / extreme difficulty !!
Thanks in advance

Hi,
looking for someone that can turn a rebate into the back of TR6 pulley wheel to accommodate a trigger wheel. Happy to pay going rate / beer tokens etc.
Any suggestions of companies welcomed.
Thanks

M16 studding nuts washers and 75mm valve sqare plate washers (type used in construction)all from orbital. Fasteners Watford for about £20 - worked perfectly for me

lost one somewhere in the garage and need a new one (or set of 3 uprated |?). The small ones that wrap around the spindles. Cant seem to find anyone online that stocks them - any ideas appreciated.
Thanks in advance and HNY everyone !!

no compression tests as engine / car had stood with the previous owner for a few years / had not run. turns over the crank smoothly. yes - next step as you say Mickey, is some measuring etc. Based on what I have seen so far I am thinking of keeping the current bearings - anyone recognise the following engraving on the shells / who would have manufactured them ?;
mains;
149550
D MX T/B
G S2920 SA
.010 U/S
B Ends
G S 202022 SA D AX
+ 020 U/S T/B

Excuse the TR6 newbie here - first engine rebuild so taking it slow. My engine condition was unknown totally, albeit records indicate some kind of rebuild in history - if I am right 23k from rebuild. So I have taken the head off and last night removed a few bits to get a feel for problems. Bores look fairly good - smooth / no ridge at top etc, albeit I need to measure / inspect properly. Photos below show pistons / bearings. The bearings look pretty good to me,
the engraving suggests' big ends +.020 U/S, Mains 0.010 U/S - so I m assuming has been ground at some time. £40 seems to but a new set, but I was thinking these look pretty good / be kept - any views ?
rings similarly look ok, but need to measure properly . Anyone give guidance on the staining on the pistons - is this normal wear and tear / can I just clean them up etc. ??
Any views / comments appreciated. Thanks
