  1. Doesn’t look much wrong with it Sean!…. Why’d you cut it out? ……. However, looks the part now, what’s the exhaust; some ‘yank tank’? That will take some polishing to keep concours once it get hot!

Bon aperitif (thinking further you should really have used a 4 floor pan - Italian design for pizza obviously- with the 6 floor door you should be cooking snitzel and frankf;)urters  )

I bet Roger has not  mentioned that we can’t get DAB radio in our house.......! When it first came out and Capital Radio was advertising DAB all the time, we purchased a DAB Radio only to find that the signal is blocked here.:(

Wanna buy an old boot rack / state of the art Ariel?

Seriously Sue.. hope it all goes well Tuesday.

Thanks John, on behalf of all us formumites (highly unlikely I would have headed across to Lincoln) again showing the benefits of this forum

  4.             It always amazes me how my special causes so much interest when I was at Lincoln I left my special outside the hall where my TR6 was being displayed when I came out after setting it up in the hall there were a few people looking round my special there a few concours cars nearby waiting to go in no one seemed interested in them.

Great stuff Geoff, I can 100% understand that your ‘special’ got more attention than the over polished standard fare….

  5. Some great cars here....

Adding my tuppence worth late on, currently: 71 Elan Sprint and 92 XJS both one previous owner ... although, not best pics, I did once post on one of the other club sites that "I had the best examples of the best sports cars from the 50’s, 60’s and 70’s"............. You might imagine not every keyboard warrior was fully aligned!?.. think I conceded ‘ two out of three ain’t bad!

  6. Welcome Tim,

Your Father must have a been a very wise and knowledgeable man!....

The 3 (3A latest and greatest of the side screens - fact although I’m biased) is undoubtedly the best and most fun smiles for miles car you could ever have the pleasure of owning...... Follow your heart and head (agree get some advice but, they are so strong, robust and simple)..... parts are absolutely not an issue supply wise although some of the replacements leave a bit to be desired quality wise - if and where you can, repair original rather than replace is my advice; don’t get talked into ‘new upgrades’ if not strictly necessary - Buy a good un for a fair price and you really should not go far wrong, now or down the line.

If, reading between the lines, you are in Holland I can point you in the right direction for contacts

    Cheers

    Tony

  7. Could the oil pump drive have sheared Bob?.....(perhaps not if you have plenty of oil up on the rockers!)........ Sure you will sort it, not something so simple as faulty gauge?

    Cheers

Tony (and happy to help if you need someone to hold and pass the spanner’s)

Sorry but thats not correct, the factory would still paint cars any colour you wanted through 3a production. if you were prepared to pay. Plus any Malines built cars were painted in a variety of colours too.

    Stuart.

Here’s an extract from Bill Piggots book.. and the ‘Motor’, ‘Motor Sport’ and ‘Autosport’ road tests from the period all back this up: "Exterior colours standardised from May 1954"

There is also the "Weave" trim too from TR2 on though Im not sure if was still available for a 3a

    Stuart.

No Stuart, definitely not..... Story was (so l heard) the wife of Sir John got involved early on when the 2 was launched with the trims and ‘exotic’ colours but, that was all long gone by the time of the 3A..... Pinkish purple 2’s were coming out the factory to be hastily repainted as soon as the new owners took delivery....Basically, by the time of the 3A you could have a red, white or dark green one.. oh, and maybe a blue one .. if really‘ radical ’!   :)

Hi Tr2_applegreen  I think it's a good  idea to change the look of your car, you have done a great job in adding rally equipment inside the car,  I see no reason to turn the outside to suit. Like some period photos get rid of the front bumpers, add a couple of spotlights and make up a bracket to hold the number plate, even adding a horn on each side will give it "the look" you may be after. The vinyl stickers are easy to put on and take off.

I've been there and done that! You can easily put it back.

    cheers Shane

Hi Shane, that looks the business!....... Purposeful, you’ve nailed it..

Just out of interest, what is the Spit derivative parked alongside

  11. Wire brush all the loose flakey stuff off and paint directly with ‘Hammerite’ and or similar Lidl etc cheaper alternative...... Then stand back and admire! - Not ‘concours’ but quick and effective

Will look great (if not been done for 20 years)

Thats a very good plan Andrew. Like Steve, I have enjoyed restoring a couple of bikes since I finished the TR6 in 2018. First a 1976 Triumph Bonneville which I imported from the US, followed by a 2005 Kawasaki Vulcan 500, also a US import but not imported by me. Enjoy riding both when the weather allows.

Stunning Sean!....... However, doesn’t look authentic to me........ where is the oil patch underneath?-_-
