  1. Spoke to one of the guys here on phone- Dave. Fabulous guy. Offered to have a look but scheduling conflict. Tons of good advice. You guys are great.

Joining the Register now so I can actually meet some of you folks in person. After all your good wishes and supportive messages and offer of help, I am now more resolved than ever that the TR 6 is NOT going to junkyard and will be driven this Summer, proudly! Come fall, she will go to a garage for total beautification and mechanical overhaul.

I will keep you posted, with pictures. Thank you and God bless you all.

  2. Guys, all your kind and helpful comments have more determined than ever to get the car fixed properly. I am told the body is a good B and everything in the car is original. So I will contact the three garages mentioned above and see who will take it on and I sure want to drive it before summer is officially out. Wish me luck and I will keep you posted. Thanks again and all the best. You guys have been fabulous.

  3. Jayhawk,

    Problems?

Injector problem (no. 2 injector not working). Trivial, may be repairable, but reconditioned injectors are available

Temperature not working. Trivial, probably. Could be the sensor, the electrical supply, or the gauge. All can be bought, or repaired.

Clutch Pad + Cap U.S. (which he tells me means unservicable). "Pad" = friction ("driven") plate?? "Cap" = Clutch cover plate. Non-trivial replacement, gearbox, or engine-and-gearbox must come out, but all parts available.

    Thurst Bearing Noisy, ditto

Slave cylinder leaking. Trivial, probably needs new one, available.

    Body:

O/S Door window winder not working, Almost certainly repairable, but fiddly job

Body Flex Ah, this might be the killer! Needs detailed examination to assess extent of corrosion or damage, to body shell or chasis, BUT many parts available and those that aren't can be made. https://www.rimmerbros.co.uk/Item--i-GRID600270

    Under Body:

Various leaks from Diff, G/Box overdrive, It is said that Triumphs don't leak, they just 'mark their territory' . Can be sorted, if only by a rebuild but sometimes by just new gaskets!

Exhaust leaking and rattling, The leak is serious, you don't want carbon monoxide in the car, but an old exhaust is probably rusted through. Available.

Brake pipes and fuel pipes rusty, Rusty, not rusted through, again all can be replaced, either in the fullness of time or now, your choice

underbody Boshes all perished (?) Bushes, I think, yes they do perish, they are nearly fifty years old! All available.

    Brakes:

O/S/F Disc Heavy Scored, Servo does not seem to be working, Hand brake not efficient. All available, or may be adjusted to proper function.

When I say "available" that means they can be bought. I said it a lot, so this might cost a lot, just in parts, plus labour much of which you can DiY.

Even if you don't intend to DiY, do get a workshop manual, facsimile https://www.amazon.co.uk/Triumph-TR6-Repair-Operation-Manual/dp/1869826132 (also online) or a Haynes https://www.rimmerbros.co.uk/Item--i-RR1020?gclid=Cj0KEQjw9YTJBRD0vKClruOsuOwBEiQAGkQjP3aijKS-4f-ah3YL04MS_-MFucblqaUhY3Djm5uiri4aAsc58P8HAQso you know more about the car.

I've referenced Rimmer's as a leading Triumph supplier. to show availability, but others are 'available' (!)

I can't say anything about TRGB, I haven't used them, but some here must have. The firm is well-established and known: https://www.trgb.co.uk/

It would be a shame to junk it!

    John

What can I say. I am touched by your generosity with time and kindness. I will contact these garages, to see who will take it on. I am now more than ever determined NOT to get rid of it. Hopefully, with someone who knows these cars looking at it, it will be running again. Even if I just catch the last of the summer sun in it. Thank you and thank you everyone who has responded so kindly.

  4. Hi Jayhawks What is the 'list of things' and where abouts in Berkshire are you? If the PO drove it and you obviously managed to get it mot'd I'm sure it'll run with a bit of coaxing.

    Dave

Thank you Sir. I have posted the 'list' above. I am in Wokingham. I just want to drive it and not give in to my wife's constant demand to send it to a junkyard.

  5. Where in Berkshire are you?

You are probably not far from Protek Engineering, a firm that specializes in TRs. Let me know if you want the contact details and I'll send them over.

As Parky said, it would be good for you to contact your local group, as there might well be people there willing to advise. Once we know where in Berkshire you are, we can tell you who is most local to you.

Welcome to the forum by the way.

    Cheers, Darren

I am not sure if this is the best way to respond to your message so forgive me if it is annoying to all. Thank you for the warm welcome and advice. I will be sure to contact Protek with the list of problems and see if they would/could help.

    Thanks again,

    Jayhawks

  6. I would go to Enginenuty in Acton London, this company has the most experience in the Home Counties of dealing with all models of TRs and has the equipment/experience to do any type of TR work. He works to strict time tables and there is no being messed about and continual chasing up! Unfortunately I speak from experience of dealing with others.

    Bruce

Thank you kind Sir. I will contact them first thing tomorrow.

  7. Guys, I am so grateful. and overwhelmed at the same time for your very kind replies. I am in Wokingham, Berkshire. The list of problems as the guy said are (apparently he gave up listing when it hit page 2!). He replaced the battery and put some Fuel System Cleaner which he said would help. I tried this morning, it would start, run even but keeps mis-firing. So left it there.

Injector problem (no. 2 injector not working). Temperature not working, Clutch Pad + Cap U.S. (which he tells me means unservicable). Thurst Bearing Noisy, Slave cylinder leaking.

Body: O/S Door window winder not working, Body Flex

Under Body: Various leaks from Diff, G/Box overdrive, Exhaust leaking and rattling, Brake pipes and fuel pipes rusty, underbody Boshes all perished (?)

Brakes: O/S/F Disc Heavy Scored, Servo does not seem to be working, Hand brake not efficient.

Is there any hope or shall I just give up and send it to Junkyard as my wife been telling me?

Also, I am working at the moment in Suffolk. Has anyone has experience with a garage called TRGB Ltd. Somersham, Huntingdon, Cambridgeshire. I saw they took out a full page advert in a TR6 related magazine.

Once again, many thanks. Forever grateful for your replies.

  8. Greetings. I am not only a newbie here, I know virtually nothing about cars, let alone TR6. Two years ago, on a whim, I bought a 1971 TR6 with overdrive. The guy who sold it drove it and it drove ok. He did say that the fuel injection system needs looking at by someone from 'that era'. I had it MOTd, insured but didn't drive. Now it wont start. Had battery replaced and it was looked at by some one from that era but he won't do the work. Says it is too much. He gave me a list of things wrong. I don't want to sell it for parts. Please can anyone recommend a honest guy with the knowledge to fix it and make it roadworthy? I just want to drive it. I am in Berkshire. Will get the car transported to the garage. Very grateful for your help. Thank you and have a great day.
