  1. Hello everyone

Got a small leak just under the water-pump, a consideration is to replace the pump, but which one do I get?

I've been on another forum and they suggested there has been some issues with certain pumps, wrong shape and too few impellers, but could not remember which pumps, they suggested a search here which I have done using 'water pump' and the most recent thread was 2014, a lot can happen in five years!

An alternative would be to get the pump refurbished.

    Thanks in advance.

    Best wishes,

    Mike

I drive past Deals every Monday (well  most Mondays) on my way to Coggeshall.

Always glance at the cars in Deals, but have never stopped to take a proper look

This one seems a bit pricey to me, but, I'll stop and have a look on Monday.

    I'm not in the market for another car,  so SWMBO tells me . . . . . . . . . . . . .hmmmmm

    Hi John,

I've always used Deals, trusted family run firm, they sold by S Type Jag for me a year or so ago.

The car is inside the showroom.

    Best wishes,

  3. Ian,

Mrs is a bossy mechanic and doesn't like taken orders, reckons shes the boss, so no change there!

I've added a couple of more photos, you can see it has moveable supports, they can go up and down the side frame provided you don't tighten up the nut and bolt too much, see the gap for them to do this inside each support. They also swing out or lay on the frame and the heavy duty rubber plate (also moves up and down each arm) is what connects with the chassis.

    Best wishes,

    Mike

  4. After much research using this forum I opted to buy the 900mm (not 1,030mm as too wide for a 5, pinch the inside of the tyres when driving on it) hydraulic Scissor Lift from SJR Equipment, and I am not disappointed! This is quality and great access. Sam the man there was really helpful as well.

Will take 2.5 ton and hydraulic. Cost March 18 - 1030mm £1,138.80 / 900mm £1,424. A lot of money but will hold its value well, aim to keep it for 20 years or so unless I pop off earlier.

Had to add scaffold boards either side to clear the height of the jack when completely flat, my mate has a 6 and it took that no problem.

  5. It shows the hammer at £26,000, but I suspect not sold as estimate was £30,000 - £40,000 and in the remarks it say Sold:N/A

    UPDATE

Auctioneer staff just called me and said did not reach its reserve but seller has since negotiated sale, actual sale price will be on the auction site tomorrow.

I'm on here two to four times a day mainly using laptop, occasionally the iphone.

First point of call is the TR250/5 forum as I have a 5.

Then it's General Technical, followed by classified, occasionally Swap and every now and then Forum Help/Rules.

After reading some earlier posts I did for the first time look at Alec's Inn, will now add this to my daily visit.

I've found this forum to be a really helpful with such a friendly and informative bunch of chaps and chappesses. I'm relatively new to the TRR and am learning everyday becasue of this  superb resource which has now given me the confidence to do my own work improvements on the car.

Worth every penny of the yearly sub.

    More bad...

I was once involved in an exploded large industrial battery from a 5T electric fork lift truck. The charger, as was discovered after the incident, had overcharged the battery and this was a large battery, around 500-1000 kg.

With safety aspects, you often hear “I never had that”, and then the assumption it cannot happen.  Google it:

    Regards,

Thanks for the clip Waldi, I've been learning rather a lot by this thread.

I have often heard that a swan can break your arm with a flick of its wing.
I also hear that this is a myth, and that no one has ever actually had their arm broken by a swan’s wing.

I have also heard that it is a  “Myth” is that people have been blinded by connecting a battery charger to a battery, and the battery exploding.

Back in the 1970’s I had a customer wearing an eye patch come to my railway arch in Leamington Spa. I asked him why he was wearing an eye patch. He told me that he connected a battery charger to a battery, it exploded, and parts of the battery ended up destroying his eyeball.

Ever since then I’ve always shielded my eyes whenever I’ve connected or
    disconnected a car battery.

    Over cautious?
    I still have 2 eyeballs…

    Charlie.

Thanks for sharing your story, understand why you are always cautions. I do have protective glasses for when strimming the lawn, perhaps I'II use them from now on.

Yep, got a CTEK too and always connect to the battery terminals;  as Steve says, positive first, then negative. Better still, permanently connect the the 'plug and charge' cable supplied with the kit - saves phaffing about.

If you don't have one then they are available on eBay: https://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/CTEK-Comfort-Connect-Eyelet-Fitting-Spare-Flylead-Car-Motorsport-40cm-Cable/141165294286?hash=item20de1b72ce:m:m03E3u9MEx87g39pjpe7MzQ:rk:1:pf:0

    Cheers, Andrew

Thanks Andrew, that bit of kit came with it. Cheers

  10. Hello everyone

I've just picked up a CTEK MXS 5 intelligent battery charger and wondered if anyone could clarify something please.

Do I have to connect the negative (black) clamp to the bodywork or can I connect it to the battery terminal?

I ask as in the manual it says when the battery is in installed in the car (ie not sitting on a bench) then you have connect the negative (black) clapm to the chassis remote from the fuel pipe and the battery. But a friend of mine has two of these for his classic cars and doesn't bother to do this,  just connects to the battery terminals. Is the manufacturer being overcautious or am I?

    Thanks in advance.

  11. Morning John

I will give it some thought, to date I have found the forum to be extremely helpful, visit three or four times a day, mainly the General TR & Technical, plus the 250/5 section and classified. I occasionally drop into the forum help rules, didn't know it was there until a moderator moved my new post from 250/5 to that category. I joined and owned my TR5 August 17.

I do have one suggestion, maybe change the name of the forum review team to 'Forum Advanced Review Team', feeling mischievous. :D

Best wishes and good luck with this,

    Mike

  12. Thanks for the detailed information re costings Tom, helpful in understanding the other side of the quote.

I'm going to pop back and see the £11,000 guy and go through the estimate again to ascertain what he will be doing plus what I can do to help out. He's fully booked until May 19 so looking Nov that year. I need to take advantage that he is not yet VAT registered but that will come.

Really appreciate your time in posting, unable to like the post as it doesn't appear for moderators? So lots of ;)B):D:rolleyes::):P:lol:

    Best wishes,

    Mike

  13. A huge thanks guys for all your help, thoughts and ideas.

I've pleased to say I've had two private messages recommending body sprayers plus a helpful phone call suggesting I go back to a couple of the sprayers and see what can be done on reducing the bill. I do wonder if I initially asked for too much including panel gaps when asking for the quote.  I'm beginning to understand how much work is now involved.

I'm going to digest all the responses and seriously see what I can do myself, you never know I might actually enjoy taking out the seats, trimming, bumpers, lights etc as some of you have suggested. Will let you know what I decide.

Thanks for finding the time re this, much appreciated. ;)

    Best wishes,

    Mike
