    Mike,

I used Chapman and Cliff at Nantwich, Cheshire to cut a hole for a clock and repair 2 chips in the walnut veneer of my TR5 dash. Very pleased with results and they will do complete re veneer.

    Thanks Dave, very helpful.

Just done mine and sent away for re-veneering. Its a straightforward job. I didnt take the seats out and managed even with my arthritic fingers. I found removing the cowl round the column switches helped. Although the cables are coloured I made taggs from masking tape and put codes on them eg. ammeter righ and left etc. I found putting the dash back harder.

Interested to know Phil where you sent the dashboard for re-veneering and what the cost will be.

    Best wishes,

    Mike

  3. Morning all,.

I'm thinking the spring has gone in the ignition switch, upon first click the electrics start but was unable to get the second click to start the engine, had the AA come out and the chap got the live lead back in the ignition and this enabled me to get the car back in the garage. Lead is currently loose in the back so not being used and all electrics disabled.

Just wondering if it Is it possible to recondition this. I believe it might be the original and would like to keep this and use the same key as per the photo.

If it can be reconditioned then would welcome any recommendations as who can do this.

    Thanks in advance

Out of pure interest, are the front overriders on a TR5 in the right place, shouldn't they be a bit further out where the other chrome bolt is??

Hi John, yes , sort of between the indicator and the headlamp.

    Conrad

The link on the top of the thread takes you to the Auction House Home page, that said I've managed to find the car now and to save anyone searching like I did you can see what John and Conrad are referring to on this link.

I dont know you as we have never met or spoken. I've been a member of the TRRegister circa 2017, when I got my 5. All I wanted to say to you is that you are so helpful, informative and understanding with all your responses for help with TR5 matters. I know you are not alone in giving advice and there are some other really good contributors. But for me you stand out and this doesn't go unnoticed.

People like you and those other contributors make this forum a 'superb resource' for us TR5 owners.

    Best wishes,

    Mike

I soldered a penny coin with heads one side and tails the other side on new trunnions to stop any semi fluid grease escaping.

Also if someone nicked the car it was heads or tails I would ever get it back!

    Regards Harry

Brilliant Harry, did make me laugh! :D

  7. Hi Kevin

You might get a greater response if you copy and paste your current text and create a new topic under the heading 'Looking for previous owner of HWL 992F'

You could also contact Roger Ferris (covers 5 & 250) at the TR Register on email tr5-250registrar@tr-register.co.uk

Somehow you have ended up on a topic two years old and seems to me to not be connected with your enquiry.

Also good luck with the restoration, be great to see some photos before you start.

    Best wishes,

    Mike

Hi all, the water pump on my TR5 was replaced before I bought it in 2019 as the pre purchase car inspector I used heard a strange noise. I asked for the faulty pump to be returned to me as it has a grease nipple and may be a period pump. Does anyone know of a company that could refurbish it as a spare? Also, is there a way of confirming that it is a period pump?

    Thanks,

    Denis

    Morning Denis

    I spoke with Paul from:

    E P Services

Unit 1 Central Trade Estate, Cable St, Wolverhampton, WV2 2RJ

    Tel 01902 452914

He said he as been trading for 48 years now and thinks he now knows how to refurbish the water pump :D, mine is going off to him in a few weeks time.

Apparently it is cheaper if you don't send the pulley as well, mainly because of postage due to the extra unnecessary weight. I spoke with him last year and think the cost was circa £78 - £80 but be good to check, he has come well recommended in my TR circles.

    Trust this helps.

    Best wishes, Mike

    Hi Mike,

The TR5 I mentioned that was sold by auction at Brightwells for £35k, would have been subject to a buyer’s premium of 12% + VAT. So the final price would have been just over £40k, which I suppose is probably about right.

    Regards,

    Denis

    Ah ha!

The other link further down, seen it now. I'm at that funny age.

    Thanks Denis. ;)

Thanks Stuart. As per usual I bow to your superior knowledge! There would be the buyer’s commission to add and the car does need a fair amount of tidying up. In my view an overdrive is essential with modern motoring speeds so there would be the cost of adding that.

    Regards,

    Denis

    Hi Dennis

There will be no buyer's fee to be added, it's something Car & Classic has devised to get round lockdown, travel restrictions and numbers of people gathering at auctions. You bid online so there is no venue or staff costs, bit like Ebay. Agree with you on the need for OD, useful. ;)

    Best wishes,

    Mike

$26,800 he should have taken it !

    Alan G

I make that £19,621.62 offered on a spend of £81,255.27. Less than 25%.

I am amazed at why someone would spend that amount on something, let alone a car, that will show such a loss.

Am I missing something here?

Factory never had any money so they would always use whatever they had or could obtain so its quite likely that they were using up whatever stock was available.

    Stuart.

    Thanks Stuart,

I have someone that helps me out with more in depth stuff on my 5, he did his apprenticeship with Lucas in the 60s in North London and says the same about the parts used!
