  1. Hi every one,

I'm in the middle of converting the 6 to EFI, just thinking ahead i need to fit an adaptor into the blanking point just under the thermostat housing, I'm not sure what the thread size is online it suggests it 5/8" x 18 unf.

Can anyone confirm if that is correct please, and if anyone knows where i can get one that would be brilliant. I'm thinking temperature adapter, male 5/8-18 in to 14mm npt.

    Many thanks John G.

    Is the engine sgnificantly tuned?

If it is then a single throttle body might not be ideal & you may well be better off with 3 Weber style throttle bodies.

If the engine is otherwise pretty standard in terms of state of tune then modded original manifolds connected to a single throttle body should be fine.

It would be a same to spend money modding your originals only to have to ditch them in the end.

Andy not too tuned but tweaked a little, i have looked at the Jenveys and they are really nice but wanted to try and keep as original as possible, but it has to work too. I've got a spare set of TB's so the original set up will stay in a box in case someone want to go back to stock.

  3. Hi everyone,

I'm in the process of converting my TR6 to EFI, i want to keep as much of the original look as possible so decided to keep the original TB's. My problem is finding a local company who can complete the machining work on the TB injector holes to fit the new EFI injectors. I could reamer them out by hand but I wanted to create a physical stop for the injector to sit against.

Can anyone recommend an engineering shop that could do the TB work. Ideally in the midlands but any information would be appreciated.

    Many thanks John G

Hi Harry, sorry it's taken me a couple of weeks to reply. I'd like to have a chat with you about your EFI system and possibly see it too. I'll be at the NEC for the classic car show are you going ?

This was my set up in 2011 First pic

Totally reliable. Emerald ECU and parts. Single throttle body on standard airbox. Modified throttle bodies

2nd pic      2020  Jenvey Heritage throttle bodies Remapped Emerald ECU on their rolling road.

Result, much more lively and fuel consumption slightly higher because of heavy foot and gorgeous sound of the Webber look alike,s when on full chat.

If you are thinking of changing just do it. I have kept all the parts to convert back (not by me)

    Regards Harry

Harry looks fantastic, are you near the Midlands then as i was intending going to the Jenvey unit in Bridgnorth to have a closer look.

I'm a long way from Staffordshire but I too have a fully working Megasquirt install using MS3. I am also happy to provide info, parts list, pictures, video, tuning maps or general assistance. I don't have the parts list as a complete ready to go document as much of it was ordered as I went along but now It's finished I know what's on it and where it came from. Electrical connectors are often an interesting challenge.

I got a trigger wheel and a timing cover with the right sensor bracket from Racestorations, off the shelf. This is one of the more tiresome parts of the job so a ready made kit of parts was very handy indeed.

I'm using a baustuck manifold, 3x Jenvey 40mm dual throttle bodies, a Jenvey idle speed control valve, Vauxhall Omega 6 cylinder coil pack, Zeitronix EGO system and off the shelf 200cc BMW fuel injectors. I used a special ITB tuning algorithm, which I think is unique to Megasquirt systems, which allows me to use manifold vacuum to regulate fuelling and timing at small throttles and lower speed and move to throttle position only higher up the range. This has the advantage of allowing idle speed control both during warm up and in normal running. Nice in a traffic jam as you can just lift the clutch a little and the ECU maintains idle speed like a modern car without touching the throttle to creep forwards.

Hi Jon, thanks for the reply i'm looking to buy the full kit in one go as a set. The company that John has used seems quit good. I was at the Malvern show and the chap next to me had the Jenvey throttle bodies which worked very well, i was very impressed.

    hi Richard

Yes, my car starts and runs like a modern car, with much improved fuel consumption.

Hi John, i'm looking to do the EFI conversion to my TR6 but would like to see a modified car would it be possible to see your conversion i'm in Staffordshire in the midlands. I'm happy to travel.

Many thanks for your consideration John Greenfield

  8. Hi chaps need a little advice on my TR6 PI engine. I'm nearly done on a total restoration, engine is up and running ect but when setting up timing and doing my running in i notice that the engine when i rev it up to 2.5K ish, it seems sluggish to return to tick-over. This is my first PI engine so i'm not 100% on what to expect.

When i say sluggish it's 4 to 5 seconds before she settles back to tick-over almost as if the throttle linkage is slow in closing otherwise it's spot on.

Everything is either new or rebuilt any ideas on what it may be or what i can expect with a PI.

    Many thanks JG

  9. Hi guys this is my first time asking a question, just wanted to get some advice. I'm competing a ground up restoration on my TR6 and have got to the engine start point. I have a British CR 125 BH engine fully rebuilt to 150 spec, but i'm having trouble starting it. Having solved a few minor issues (wrong Coil) she has fired and run for a few seconds. I've turned the air idle down as it reved to high for my liking but now she seems reluctant to start at all. I suspect that i may have pulled some air into system as i lost fuel pressure due to low fuel in the tank.

Just to clarify the fuel system is total reconditioned too.

I have 100 PSI fuel pressure, timing is set, and i have a good spark.

    Now for the questions:-

how much fuel should i get out of the injectors on turn over when trying to start the engine as all a seem to get is a dribble ? I suspect that this is the air i have pulled in any thoughts or suggestions would be most welcome.

Is there a recommendation for running in 1500 RPM for 15 mins as an example.
