  1. I've been keeping a close watch on TR5's and TR250's for sale and a lot are listed on the Car & Classic site at anything from £15K-£30K for TR250's and £20K-£50K for TR5's.

A lot of them are at Dealers and some have been listed for several months without selling, it would seem that anyone on the lookout for a 5 or 250 Isn't prepared to pay that much?

However the few Privately advertised ones that I have chased up recently have all been sold, the last one I chased was a Valencia Blue 5 located in Yorkshire (Still on the website although sold!), fully restored 7 years ago and I was told it sold within a few days for the asking price of £35K.

  2. £30,000 I Presume!

Is this the start of prices steadying, I hope so?

The car looks nice in the Photo's but you never know till you get up close.

I'm still looking and have more or less made my mind up on a TR5 now not a TR250, I need to look at a few more yet though till the house sale goes through. :(

  3. I had a look at this car on Saturday afternoon and decided it's not for me

The Car looked bodily reasonable, with pretty good panel gaps, but far too much fresh underseal slapped on the Chassis for my liking :o , it may be hiding nothing but I didn't get the chance to look at the underside on a Ramp so am not risking bidding.

The Vendor stated that the Engine burns oil and needs a full rebuild ideally, the Interior was reasonable but no Overdrive is fitted or Surrey top, the hood also needs replacing ideally and all four tyres are perished and dangerous in my opinion ( It looks like it's been in Storage a long time to me?)

It also had a leaking wheel cylinder, but has a recent M.O.T. Certificate?!!

The guy selling looks like he runs a Garage/Restoration business and stated if the car doesn't reach it's reserve it will be getting a body off Chassis rebuild, He also had a MK2 Jag in the Workshop which was having work done on the Wiring.

He told me the previous owner sold it to him to release some money for repair work to a Lotus Elite that he races?

On the plus side I visited TR-Bitz in the morning and got chance to drive the Wedgewood Blue TR5 they have for sale :):):)

Although it had an Injector fault and was only running on 5 Cylinder I was impressed, I've never driven a TR before and liked the ride and light positive steering, the view over the long narrow Bonnet is very different to my recently sold Vitesse, this car is up for sale at £31,500.00, trouble is I'm not a big fan of Wedgewood blue :( .

I'm hooked and reckon I will try and get a decent TR5, the search goes on!

  4. Looking closely at the two Ads it seems to be the same Car, the Dash and Tyres certainly look the same?

Might nip and have a look tomorrow, planning on going to TR-Bitz to look at the two TR5's they have for sale in the Morning, so I could nip along the M62 and A1 to York after :)

  5. Is it the Same Car?

The Battery is different, but Door Mirror in same location and its near to where the Original E-Bay add was?

Could have had a new Battery I suppose.

  6. Certain colours suit certain Cars better?

I owned a Triumph 2000 in Saffron in the 80's and did think the colour suited it, it was a shame about the rusty front Wheel Arches :(

I Like the TR5 In Royal Blue and Valencia, I could cope with White but don't want Red or Jasmine and the Mrs won't let me buy a Green one

I like the TR6 in red, like the Stag in Brooklands Green and the TR2/3/3a's look nice in light blue (Powder or Wedgewood?)

  7. Hi Tom and thanks for your reply.

This was really helpful - especially re the CP head and Webers!

I am not worried about LHD and love the Michelotti lines and the fact that essentially this is a TR4A with a 6 cylinder engine that can have its performance improved if desired.

I'll let you know how I went on after I have seen and driven the car.

    Cheers and thanks again.

    Nigel.

Was the TR250 Any good that you looked at?

  8. Carl

I tried contacting the guy Sunday morning but got his answer phone, I left a message but he never came back to me?

It would appear he's either had an offer he can't refuse or decided not to sell?

  9. 46 Bids and up to £15k+ already :o

I've contacted the Vender and it's a South African Car, part of a collection that is being downsized

The guy said he's had a lot of interest from dealers?

I've arranged to have a look on Sunday, never buy the first one you see they always say

  10. Ok, I had to ask

It's probably out my price range anyway :(

Going to see what the E-Bay TR250 Bidding is up to by Friday, if reasonable will give the guy a call and ask if I can view Sunday.

    Watch this space!

  11. Hi Carl

Yes John's still got the Healey, it looks even better after he had a Bare Metal re-spray a couple of years ago?

I've met you a few times before on the Peak Run, you normally attend with your mate in the light Blue TR4, its on again this year on Sunday the 14th of June if your interested?

I don't suppose you want to sell the 5 do you?

  12. Tom

Good Advice, I've got a Mate who used to be a Register Member in the 1990's, he completely restored a TR5 back then (A John Gregory anyone remember him?), so he will probably be going with me for advice?

I'm not desperate to get one, I need to look at a few really before commiting, trouble is they are pretty rare and don't come up for sale that often?

There is another Valencia Blue TR250 for sale at a Dealer (Mentioned on another post) which I plan to have a look at too, I've recently sold a Triumph Vitesse that I fully restored so know a bit about Triumphs, just not that familiar with TR's

    Thanks

    Gary

  13. I'm hoping to get up there Sunday to have a look, I'm based in Derby so it's only a couple of hours away max.

I've queried which area of the States it came from with the Vender, I suppose if it's from a dry State it's got a better chance of not being a rust bucket!

What area's should I be looking at for rust?

  14. Hi all

I've recently joined the TR Register and want a TR5 or alternatively a TR250?

I have been drooling over this particular Car since December of last year and have had E-Mail correspondance with Imageautomotive about a possible Part Swop with Cash top up for my A1 Condition Triumph Vitesse Convertible?

    Alas I never got a reply :(

Robin Can you tell me some of the History of the car or alternatively send me a Personal message with the details on how long you have owned it, work carried out, etc?

    Regards

    Gary
