or at least complete until my next task which is to get her ready to compete at Inter-club Triumph weekend in Stratford in a few weeks!! Then of course there'll be the long list of snagging stuff no doubt… but she's on the road again and I'm a happy bunny.. Thanks for all the help and advice I've had along the way... this forum has a wealth of knowledge if you use the search function!! Special thanks to Bill Bourne though, who has been absolutely brilliant as both a sounding-board and a helping hand. I think I would have made many more bad decisions during the rebuild without him..!!
Check out my Owners Blog on the website for more info on the rebuild... but in the meantime, here's some pics from the Henley show this afternoon... See you at Stratford...

Guys, I'm going to jump to Ian's defense a bit here... I'm not a personal friend or anything, but I've just had a dash, switch plinth and door caps from him a couple of months ago. OK, he's massively snowed under at the moment with work, and I had to badger him rather to get my bits, BUT, he's gone above and beyond in terms of helping me out, even to the point of personally delivering the dash up to Protek because he couldn't get it out by courier in time.. I don't know what's happened in Halvor's case.. and I can't comment on his experience, but I have to say, I'm a little surprised as my experience has been very different recently..

Thanks Stuart... I'll be careful then if I do end up adjusting it.
Keith, I'll have another play with what you have suggested when the car comes back from the having the hood adjusted and hopefully resolve it. It's not a big one, as I can still get the bonnet open.. it just needs a bit more effort!

Thanks Stuart... brand new latch so spring should be fine.. is there not an adjustment on the spring tension?
Panch
-
Hi Keith, thanks... yes checked those already and they are in the correct position and holding the edges of the bonnet correctly in line with the front scuttle and wing panels. I'm guessing that the spring tension itself can be adjusted somehow to increase its 'spring'?

Thanks everyone... bent the stay and now works perfectly... It feels a little bit of a bodge job in terms of a fix, but I guess I should be used to that by now with the TR...
I'm guessing there's some adjustment on the spring too in order to get the bonnet to 'pop' open better? I've checked all my alignments and the latch sits central when it goes down, but only pops up a little, rather than all the way to the latch stop when I pull the bonnet release handle?

Looking at the link to the MGB one, maybe I should try that... but then what is everyone else with a '6' doing? I can't be the only one with this problem surely??

Roger - No, the stay is standard length, although someone has suggested shortening it to resolve the problem, but I'm reluctant to do that as it will reduce the opening on the bonnet when it's up...
It is attached at the bonnet end with a nut and washer onto the standard bolt which sticks out sidewards as per the pics in the Moss catalogue above.
John, that's a really interesting shot... now I wonder if the rubber has actually been fitted on mine correctly then. The slit in the rubber has been slid onto the metal bracket, whereas I wonder if it should actually be screwed below the bracket as shown in your picture? Obviously the slit is much narrower though and it just a 'slit' rather than shaped to house the bar so wouldn't fit the stay bar through it without modification. Has anyone else fitted a 'modern' rubber as supplied by Moss/Rimmer and had the same issue I wonder... and is mine fitted correctly?

So, looking again, I do have the rubber stop in place, and the issue is still happening.
Colin - I've check the stay, and yes, it is straight... in fact, I've tried to be it a little the 'other way' in order to move it away from the brake reservoir when the bonnet is shut, and that hasn't helped either!
It's a bit hard to photograph Roger, but see if this makes sense!
Photo 1 - bonnet open showing stay and rubber
Photo 2 - bonnet closing with stay moving backwards
Photo 3 - bonnet nearly closed showing stay just under the brake reservoir
Photo 4 - bonnet on catch showing stay pushing on underside of the reservoir
If I pushed the bonnet shut from the position in Photo4, there's a loud 'clonk' as the stay forces itself around the side of the reservoir and the 90deg hook end sits on top on the brake reservoir!
Does that make sense? I'm surprised that no-one has encountered this? and as I say, it was working absolutely fine a couple of weeks ago, so struggling to understand what's changed??

Ah interesting... thank you guys... I definitely haven't had one before which is probably why I didn't realise it wasn't there!!

Sorry Roger, I should have said, it's a TR6 not a TR5..! I don't seem to remember ever having a buffer on though??
Sorry Nigel, I'm not sure I'm getting what you mean.. maybe I should take a picture of what I've got.. might be easier. .

So the car's been back on the road for nearly a couple of months, and I've had the bonnet open and closed a lot in that time... as you can imagine! So why, suddenly, since last weekend, has the angled end of the bonnet stay started lifting up over the brake reservoir and catching on the top of it when closing the bonnet?? I've tried the action slowly, and I can't see anything loose, or bent.. so I'm confused.. why was it working perfectly a week ago and now catching??
Anyone else come across this before and what's the fix please? It's a UK spec CP car, so it's not to do with it being a US import.. Thanks..

Having just bought a couple of items from Conrad on eBay not realising he was a forum member, I can also vouch for him as very helpful and great to deal with..

All fair points... I've got breakdown... can't imagine any of us who own 'classics' not having it to be honest! but could stick the spare wheen behind the seats as a temporary solution to get me home I thought.. the legalities worry me more actually rather than the practicalities.. I can totally see why it would be very unlikely to be an issue.. but knowing my luck, I'd be the one bugger who comes a cropper with this and ends up in a messy court case.. for me personally, it's probably not something I'm comfortable with risking.. Thanks for all the opinions and information all..

I suspect that the audio will win out and I'll be carrying a can of tyre weld and an inflator in future... Thanks for all the advice everyone.. much appreciated

p.s. Steve, you were right in your first post regarding a subsequent post on legality/insurance etc.. you've obviously been here before...

Wow... OK.. thanks Micky for the detailed response.. and Roger for your input. mmm... seems like I have a bit of a quandary on my hands..!!

No worries Steve.. that's probably enough for me to get started with anyhow.. thanks..

Thanks Paul... but I'm specifically after a spacer-saver. She's got a bit of an audio system going in her and I'm going to be pushed for space, so will need the additional room in the wheel well that should hopefully be generated by using the space-saver rather than a full size wheel.. I'd just carry a can of tyre-weld, but would prefer to have some kind of spare, just in case..!

Hi Steve, yes that would be really helpful if you wouldn't mind digging out the details please.. thanks..

Hi, anyone use a space-saver wheel for the TR6, or know if there is another car which has the same stud pattern that has a space-saver wheel that I could use? I'm on standard steel rims.. thanks..!

Thanks guys... as per John's comment... very chuffed indeed with the result.. Its always a little worrying when you go 'off piste' with colour combos as it can be so car dependent.. I saw an old SL Merc years ago with a similar combo and loved it, but sometimes something that works on one car just looks wrong on another.. seems to have worked on the TR though..
