  1. How I am learning by my mistakes!! While fixing the Speedo cable I foolishly allowed the overdrive cable to droop and on first trip out the wire melted on the hot exhaust. I think I can splice in wire to fix it, but what gauge should it be? Also to check that it is correct to be on an 8amp fuse?

  2. Thanks to all for your input.

    To update.

Fitted a cheapo repro, but the spines are thinner than the original, so the clips are only just small enough (diameter). Time will tell if it stays on and is durable.

Phoned Badgecraft who were helpful and seemed very knowledgable. Recon cost of my original would be £155 + £12 postage (they are not VAT registered). However they can provide a quality newly made badge for £105 + £12 postage. The new one has threaded spines to allow nuts to hold it on. They make them from scratch and with workloads at the moment delivery is around October (if requested they can consider urgent cases quicker).

  3. Thanks Kev

All well here. I had Robsport look over the 5 a couple of months back and she is in good shape ( now they have done some magic on the Gbox). I had a look around for some clips after Stuart's reply, but was struggling for some small enough. Funny how the obvious place to look is overlooked!!

  4. Many thanks Dave. I will phone them to get a quote. Roy, I am still hopeful my badge is an original despite not having threaded nuts on the back. I believe it was taken off the car in 1977, before the car was refurbished. Hopefully someone will comment on the spring clip arrangement.

  5. Two questions please.

How is the TR5 bonnet badge supposed to be held on?

Can the cream enamel be replaced on an original badge and if yes where can I get it done?

My current badge pulled off and seems to have a bit of dried up gunk on the back which may have helped keep it on. I have purchased a cheap modern replacement which I will attach once I get a reply how it is retained. Hopefully only the purists will spot the difference. The new one looks OK, but not sure if it will be durable. It is certainly a lot lighter than the original.

  6. I can vouch for the advice from TR Register members. My car is the one you see when you open the link from Andrew (faithful dog hanging off the back)and the guys at the Lea Valley group have been a real source of advice. Use all resources for reference.

  7. Having had my TR5 since the start of the year, the gear change has been getting progressively harder to engage. It seems to get worse as the gearbox warms up. I have just replaced the Gbox oil (Millers classic EP 80/90) and initially it seemed cured, but within 10 miles it was as before. It can get as bad as being unable to engage 1st and 2nd. Any help/guidance gratefully received. Thanks Mike
