  1. I agree with Alec, unless you are racing the car and therefore need every single BHP you can squeeze out of the engine, step back and think about value for money ... i.e. how much will it cost and what will be the benefits / risks?

John Eales will serve you well as a sounding board for ideas.

Above all - enjoy the car!

  2. I have this brace on the white TR7 v8 - works well and tightens up the front end - if no-one responds before i dust it off for the NEC Practical Classics Car Show in March, then i will measure it for you (or you can come along and take a template).

  3. There were 3 engines that the TR7 used : the standard 2ltr 8 valve, a small number of 2ltr 16-valve and also the V8 Rover was used.

The TR7 v8 was first used in competition in 1978 and a few pre-production coupès (approx 150) were sent to USA and bear the chassis designation ACN (produced Feb 1977-Oct 1977). In 1978 more TR8 coupès were produced (chassis TCN) and again these were mainly sent to the USA.

In 1980 Triumph launched the TR8 drophead but once again very few for the UK but just under 3000 were sent to North America.

The TR8 did not use Triumph's own single overhead cam V8 as found in the Stag apparenty due to its weight and lack of reliability but instead utilised its Rover V8 engine which was in the Rover SD1. The engine itself was derived from an early 1960s Buick/Oldsmobile all-aluminum V8 215 cu in (3.52 L) that Rover acquired from General Motors in the mid-60s.

  4. OOM was not just a works car numbers but a large batch Triumph put out for publicity

OOM 721R was used by Purdey in the Avengers

OOM 734R was used in the Professionals

I've attached a few photos I have of the OOM series in my database

  5. JHP made it to Italy - 2780km without stopping for more than fuel and a 'comfort break' - 26 hours to get to the South of Italy from UK - 'Monkey' is now in the garage and resting.

  6. this has been for sale for years .... despite repeated requests the seller refuses to provide adequate information on the car ... just insists on any potential buyer travelling just to view it!

  7. I am looking for a 1974-1976 TR7 - happy to consider a LHD or RHD - preferably in UK / Europe but will consider USA, etc

I am happy to look at a basket case or a restored example.

    Many thanks

  8. The car will be at S+S preperations next week for an overhaul and also to put back all except the emissions modifications - it is chassis number 3 and I believe the first LHD one as chassis 1 and 2 were RHD despite the VIN plate .... I am looking for a 1974-1976 TR7, so if anyone hears of one then I'd be happy to come and view (happy to look at a basket case or a restored version)
