  1. To be serious for just a few moments;

The media have shown, more than once, that they can bring down Prime Ministers

The BBC in particular, revel in their power.

The media like to whip up hysteria about anything they can and being British, "extreme" weather is an easy target.

The Gov't react to the media hype because we live in a litigious society and they know that, if they fail to react to the hype, they leave themselves open to the PC brigade and the media (again) who will use the opportunity to bring down ministers

    And so the cycle continues

    hi all,

i need to buy a scissor jack (original?) and a new windscreen capping,

any help what and where to buy will be very appreciate...

    Marco, Bologna, Italy

Just be aware that the winscreen capping, as an aftermarket replacement, can be quite flimsy and easily damaged during raising and lowering of the roof.

I looked on line and bought a nice second hand, original cap from the USA.

Yes, it needed a little bit of fettling, some scratch removal and a good polish, but, once done and fitted, it looked as though it had always been there.

    Potential;

This one is in the UK, so is probably much easier and cheaper to import to Italy

    Hi John,

WE went to the 'secret' bunker in Essex. Very impressive.  It was only a secret for those we wanted to keep in the dark.

    Roger

If it was the one at Kelvedon Hatch Roger, it's the one the PM would have used.

It's the reason the Central Line was kept open all the way to Epping.

Underground bunker and underground train to get there.

I know that is probably a tongue in cheek comment but no need to feel sorry for us. Our petrol has been cheap for years and still is by comparison. I hear people complain about the price and I tell them of what other countries pay. Some people here have no idea what the rest of the world deals with. New Zealand ( my home country) is NZ$3+ per liter.

    Simon

Works out to be about the same as here (give or take a few coppers)

    NZ$1 = £0.52, so £1.56 - £1.65 / litre

    Hijohn,

for cheap(er) fuel just concentrate on the supermarkets.

    Roger

True, but  in Swindon for example there are 2 Sainsburys 2 Asda and a Tesco, with 8p/ltr between the lowest price and the highest.

That equates to a fiver per tank full

  6. Anyone using www.petrolprices.com?

I'm making a long, looping trip starting later this week, to the wild West (of London)

Reading, Bristol, Ashbury, Henley on Thames, Wallingford, Oxford, Henley, Didcot, Henley, Morton in the Marsh and home.

I've got petrol prices app on my phone and it gives me the prices from all the fuel stations in any requested area

It doesn't stop the cost hurting, it just reduces the pain

    DRIVING LICENCE

Because I declared an eye condition (Centro-Serous Retinopathy) when I reached 70, I am required to pass a test every 3 years to satisfy the DVLA that I can see where I am driving.

    Ian

I had to renew my licence at 70

I now have to renew my licence every 3 years.

It's because I'm 70, which, I hope, applies to the rest of the driving UK

Sad news to pass on. Yesterday, we lost our last surviving link back to the Triumph Works Department , a loyal TR Register supporter, Group leader and friend to all of us, Dave Gleed.

I have written a tribute to Dave here: https://www.tr-register.co.uk/article/2022/02/0283/Dave-Gleed-Standard-Triumph-Works-Mechanic-passes-away-aged-86

Please feel free to comment on the article with your own memories of Dave, I'll try and lift as many as I can for inclusion into the TR Action tribute.

TR Action will be delayed for approximately a week whilst I modify the article we were carrying from Dave, detailing his memoirs of working on rectification within Triumph, hand written, in his own words. It will now read as part of his tribute.

I'm sure you will join us all in passing our condolences on to his wife Margaret at this sad time.

I didn't know Dave, but, as a TRR member, he must have been a good guy.

My sincere condolences to his family.

As for delaying TRAction Wayne, now that the arrival of the mag is reliable, a deliberate and justified delay of a few days is really not important, given the significant reasons involved.

  9. Well . . . . . .

    I'm thinking Australia means business.

    Whats so special about him.

Its about time some of these people who believe that they are celebrities, were put in their place.

    Well done Australia.

  10. Medical experts in London today were asked if it is time to ease the COVID lockdowns.

Allergists were in favour of scratching it, but Dermatologists advised not to make any rash moves.

Gastroenterologists had a sort of a gut feeling about it, but Neurologists thought the government lacked the nerve.

Obstetricians felt certain everyone was labouring under a misconception, while Ophthalmologists considered the idea short-sighted.

Many Pathologists yelled, "Over my dead body!" while Paediatricians said, "Oh, grow up!"

Psychiatrists thought the whole idea was madness, while Radiologists could see right through it.

Surgeons decided to wash their hands of the whole thing and pharmacists claimed it would be a bitter pill to swallow.

The Maxiofacial Surgeon thought that the proposal would "put a whole new face on the matter” whilst the cardiologists felt that they couldn't whole heartedly support it.

Podiatrists thought it was a step forward, but Urologists were pissed off by the whole idea.

Anaesthetists thought the whole idea was a gas, and Cardiologists didn't have the heart to say no.

It was enough to make the trichologist pull his hair out and the orthopaedic surgeon voiced the opinion that the new measures wouldn't stand up.

In the end, the Proctologists/Colorectal Surgeons won out, leaving the entire decision up to the a**holes in politics.

  11. Just pandering to your kneejerk position Keith, there is so much pressure to 'go smart' that you have to ask, Why?

Cost savings for the company, obviously, but, the reliability of these things is still patchy.

To start with, is it beyond the wit of man to cater for power cuts, by having the manufacturers fitting meters with a back up battery system?

Out of the blue, following emails extolling the virtues of smart meters, and my point blank replies, refusing to have one, my previous supplier (British Gas) sent me an email, saying that an engineer would be arriving at my address, 2 weeks hence, to fit a smart meter!

Where the hell did that come from?

Following a very terse email, the 'appointment' was cacelled.

But what would have happened had I been a doddery old fart?

No.  Until they have a proven track record of reliability and accuracy, I'll not have one.

(Note; To replace my meter, they will have to remove 1/2 our fitted kitchen, it was this that finally persuaded them to back off)

    Hi Alan,

I had heard that before but why are they not using it. The stable door is open and the horse has buggered off.  Too late to retract the Vax.

D3 could easily stop the Hospitals being over run and the employees everywhere going sick.

The Papers should be TRumpeting this loud and clear. Arre they on a D notice (pun intended)

    Roger

    Not sure it's newsworthy Roger

No girls, no telephoto lens, no airmiles Andy, where is the news in D3?

Back in july i asked if anyone knew of a supplier of the high pressure hose supplying the metering unit to todays requirements .

    Haven't found one myself

I think this is a very unsafe problem for us, 105 psi fuel spraying in the engine bay.

    Roy

Go to your local Parker Store, Roy

    They have everything you need

  14. Nigel

Without people airing their "beefs" on fora, the rest of us remain in the dark.

I must admit, I'm a fan of buying tyres on line and have, to date, (now crossing fingers, whilst touching wood) had no problems.

I've used National Tyres on line and Black Circle.

Looked at My Tyres loads of times, but by pure luck, have never tried them

    Good luck

Well said Kiwifrog. We are all immigrants, it is only a matter of how long ago our ancestors moved to where we are now.  I find that chart very disturbing as both Belgium and Netherlands have a higher population density than the UK, yet they are doing far more than we are to help the most needy. I hope we have another VPRS type programme to avoid more refugees trying to cross the channel.

    Mick

    Can't agree

How can anyone be an immigrant if they were born here.

Take a look at a dictionary

If my ancestors came her from elsewhere, then they were the immigrants, not me.

Let's just remember, the UK should be seeing NO immigrants arriving via the EU.

The UK does so, because Eu member countries ignore EU regulations.

Then, the UK is lambasted by the EU and UK based bleeding heart liberals because some of us have the temerity to make the point.

I have NO objection to helping women, children and families, in fear of their lives.

I DO object to young unaccompanied economic migrants who throw their papers away and try to enter illegally.

Apparently in Hagbourne Road there was some sort of canning plant too.

Nigel is right Sue, my mate Chris worked there, in QC I think, he had a Royal Enfield Constellation, lovely bike.

I must come in on this one, even though TS952 went some years ago I still check the forum every week! The canning factory was in Park Road, our next door neighbour worked there in quality control when we lived in Norreys Road. Every week we got catering size cans of pie fills as they only took out a couple of spoon fulls and the rest was discarded. Job’s dairy bought back memories (pronounced jobEs, not as in got a job). I did drive one of their electric milk floats for a charity event. As for Hickmans  fish an chips …… a darn site better than those from the croft. Memories, now living in France with no TR but have got a 1929 Ford model A leatherback for my sins, a long story.

Regards to you all - Nigel

Yes, Sue it was in that general area

I can clearly remember the big milk bottle and THINK I can remember the entrance to the site, but placing it accurately on a modern map is beyond me.

We used to have 4 pints a day (it was, initially, 7 days a week) of red and silver stripped top, with an occastional gold top thrown in, if mum was doing something special.

    The memories you've stirred up . . . . . . .

    Manor School

No power station, just the army depot

The Didcot/Newbury/Southampton railway line was running

The Provender (The provey!) was , well, just there

Hickmans chip shop . . . Good chips
