  1. always difficult to price by anyone not seeing the car and after that taking back poor areas to find any hidden issues, always try to take the car to a few places and you can then get a more accurate quote and see the quality of the work they do, can recommend a brilliant paint chap who has restored tr's in between Colchester and Chelmsford, PM me if required, but take your time as you will live with it for a while and worth doing well, will only also help resale if done properly, all the best

  2. Ohh I remember well the smell and noise of an FS1E. You could hear it coming a mile off.

Another contemporary bike I remember was the Kawasaki KH250. I think it was a triple? with a very distinctive ping ping 2 stroke noise. I bet theyre rare now.

yep A triple, possibly the best two stroke noise particulary with expansion pipes, have owned one and 2 gt750 suzukis or kettles, have chucked in classic bikes now excepy for fizzing and going whole hog on my schoolboy dream of a 6

  3. Love your FS1E, brings back all my (good!) memories of being 16 in the mid seventies

One of my mates had a Fantic chopper and was the envy of the school

Thanks, its is great fun, use it a lot as well have done 500 plus miles on it this year, always brings pleasure and laughs with a plump chap ridint it lol.

I will take it along to a local TR meet when one comes up so you may see her as we are both Essex based

  4. Yep, a 72 SS version, ie the one before they put fs1e on the side this has SS, its rare and matching and all correct without pattern parts except exhaust as you cant obtain or salvage them, ground up resto, had one when 16 and just love pottering around on it, always good for a crowd :D

  5. ok can shed some light her based on many an old bike tank needing sorted, I have used white vinegar and soaked tanks for 2 weeks, then used light gravel, wrapped in sheets and put in the tumble drier, she wasnt chuffed her indoors with that but it works, some people have also used coca cola as that will also strip loose rust. I have used the por set up, make sure the room is ventilated well and you use slow motions holding it for longer in the process timewise for the corners, then leave it to dry for days until you are really sure its sealed, after that mine have been fine, you must do it properly as it you get it wrong or rush it and need to remove it thats a tough job or bits coming off will leave you by the roadside, a really good purchase off ebay is a camara on a bendy rod you can connect to your laptop and see in all places great tool for many purposes so than no guesswork on coverage or debri before you start

attached a pic of my latest machine for all your seventies dudes

  7. Sounds great...so mind telling what tricks are under the bonnet?? Mines all set up suspension and brakes wise, next up is the engine, I've got an extractor manifold with a big bore single pipe...but where to start with the lump!!??

Hi, quite a bit, competition gearbox, overdrive, dif, driveshafts, tri fold bearings, overbore, higher compression, hot cam, electronic ignition, triple dellorto's, ITG filters, phoenix back to front, kenlowe, ali radiator, brakes and suspension all upgraded as well including rear roll bar, hoping for some go kart handling

  8. Hi All,

well nearly back in the fold, bought and sold a TR6 last year and wanted one a touch different and higher performance, so have been working with Woodbridge classics and she is nearly done, bit of a wolf in sheeps clothing, should be sorted next few weeks and will then do the odd East Saxons meet up, anyway all the best and a great site

  9. welcome and good luck with your search, lots of friendly help and advice on this site and a fair chance of getting a car with less unknowns though club members which makes journeys hopefully less concerning and more productive!

I too have experienced the how do I get out of a GT6, so you are not alone!

    keep us all posted! :D

  10. certainly worn stuff, she will welcome the new bits, defo change to unleaded while head off and double check all other bits carefully some extra cash now could save loads if anything not quite up to the mark goes back in and always with new parts and old going back check all tolerances carefully before you hit the start button again, good luck with it.

  11. Hi Simon,

this may be too late but can certainly recommend a painter, he works at Deals of Kelvedon and has restored Tr's, he worked for PA woods for years and I have just seen my friends lancia flavia that he has cut sections out of door and wings and fabricated new metal to fit, then sprayed and blended it all in, I have never seen work like it simply amazing, it appears Deals want to offer classic restoration work and that's why he has gone there, he is also now doing another TR, he knows them well. The chaps name is Phil.

    all the best Leslie

  12. welcome, pretty much same here, bought a car a few weeks back, joined the register and started posting, I think I can promise you a very warm welcome here, really friendly group, f :D ab car they dont make em like that anymore

  13. here's my other mean machine

A fizzy, long time since I saw one of those. I grew up in Chelmsford in a world of Fizzys, Fantics and hard white dog poo.

Poo is still about more abundant than fizzys! the sun was out today and I dotn know what to take on a blast the fizz or the TR, the TR won lol! :D

I might take the fizz on a tr meet at some point just for a laugh

  14. Ten years ago they were unobtanium but thanks to one of our members in Italy (Tom Z.) who had them re-manufactured they are now available again.

    Stuart.

that explains it then thanks Stuart

  15. Just called the DVLA to enquire on this. Was advised process is as follows:

Fill out the relevant section of the existing V5 logbook, applying for change of vehicle class to historic.

Take V5 & MOT cert to post office anytime after 01/03/14, or within 1 month of expery of existing tax, whichever is latest (my tax expires 31/03/14, so anytime from sst March for me.)

They will tax for free over the counter, but will retain the V5, which will be sent to swansea for replacement.

New V5 should arrive within 1 month.

Free to drive the car as normal, while awaiting the new V5.

No idea if refunds are applicable however.

this covers it well. you will also get a refund I have been told for all months left on the tax, i.e. get in the post office 1st April I will as mine is due then :D
