  1. Hi,

finishing my TR 3A chassis, the only thing left to do is the exhaust system. I believe TR2's had one mufler and a straight pipe ,later cars had 2 muflers. Can I do the TR2 thing on my 3A. I think it's gonna sound way better than the 2 mufler set-up.Is there other things to consider than just the sound.

    Thanks

  2. Hi,

I'm confused with the thermostats for my 3A,It seems that I have to use the old-style thermostat or use a new style one and make a sleeve for the by-pass hole. Is this so? And if yes, anyone with the dimensions of this sleeve?

Or are there other tricks to use a newer style thermostat.

    Thanks.

  3. Hi,

I ordered some parts from Moss,UK. The price was good because you can drop the tax( 17%) in the UK. The sales guy was Ok,but the shipping department

refused to deliver the parts ( about 6000£ for my friends MGA and my TR3) two streets down the road to our shipping agent who was to send everything at about a fifth of Moss's price. The reason they didn't deliver it was"if it leaves our shop you have to pay the duty in the UK......."indeed a load of horsesh....

But we know better now...long live the roadster factory, friendly and good service and advice and the prices are better, and the quality is just the same or better.Canadian custom is depending on the weather(I guess) sometimes you pay tax and sometimes you don't. I buy everything from TRF and have it send to an mailbox just over the line in Montana. Free shipping and most of the time now tax.

  4. Hi,

you guys sure have a lot of cash to spend. I recently bought a mint 1962 TR4 for 2000$,no rust, perfect interior, surrey top and good running order. There are lots of deals to be done out here. Check alberta seller sites and go on local classifieds in Idaho,Montana,Utah. Shipping it might be a bit more but you'll save lots of cash.

If you need some site adresses, just let me know.

  5. Hi,

I took my engine block to a local guy who rebuilt radiators. He dipped my block in his acid cleaning tank for 48 hours and it came out really clean. Washed it with a pressure washer and I got a nice clean block for 5$!If you have someone local give it a go,it's easy, cheap and it works.

I had the same rust problem as they never used anti freeze in my engine.

  6. Hi,

Just starting to build my 3A chassis back up,engine is fitted and next is the gearbox. It just doesn't fit! I used a TR 4 box,(CT)and I know this is a bit longer. My rubber/steel gearbox support is like 1/2 inch to short. Do I have to fit anTR4 support or do I have to make my own base plate or did I F*** up somewhere else?

    Thanks

  7. Hi guys,

I'm just about ready to put my TR3A back together so this forum is really helping, thanks for that. Why would you need to replace the headstuds and nuts?Is there anything other than cracks to be worried about? I just did an ultasonic and MAGparticle test on them and they seem fine to me.

And maybe some help for Jim, make sure that your pistons and conrods are the same weight, use the wifes kitchenscale. It doesn't give you more power but helps to make your engine rev easier, and go for the 4A head, they still pretty easy to come by and are better.Other than that, they really the most easy engines to rebuilt,so don't be afraid and give it a go. Good luck
