OMG Qim......, winter temps at + 12C................When I open up my shop door ,shut the heater off and push an old car outside to let it run for a bit...in - 33 C, it warms up perfectly...so if your car doesn't warm up at pos. temps there must be something wrong.
And blocking a radiator with something doesn,t seem like a good idea. These cars were built to deal with....+12c without any form of blocking the radiator.

Hi Guys,
My 3A (19 59)has the STC 60 plate( bright orange...) TS 54..........and was first registered as a 1960 car. And yes, it was very common for these cars to sit on a dealers lot for a year or even more. Even today dealers will ship unsold cars to other provinces and states so they can get rid of there stock before the new cars arrive in August.

Hi Guys,
@ Tush, I Think I took it from an Intrepid, and it fits perfect.
I would not be concerned about the weight this tire can hold, if it's designed to get 2 ton of Yank tank home....then I'm sure it will get my little TR home.
I think Alec is talking about regular tires, I'm sure that this load rating is not for the get me home stuff.
Anyway, if you have a flat I would hope that you would stop at the next gas bar or shop and have it fixed asap.....so you won't use a spare for more than a couple of hundred K anyway .
@ Mick, I don't think there is a Canadian law, most of these things are regulated by the provinces or territory's. The good thing in Alberta is that there is no such thing as Vehicle inspection, so you can drive with whatever you want. Not that it matters, where we live the risk of hitting a deer or other wildlife is a lot bigger than hitting an other vehicle.

Hi Guys,
My solution to the spare tire /space problem. A get me home tire from a Chrysler K series, lots of them in scrapyards ( maybe not in the UK....), and lots of them with a brand new space saver. I got this new one for free, and mounted it to the TR rim. Size is 135/70 15".
It fits with room for spares...

Hi Guys,
On fitting the stator tube I did notice that it has a cut on one end. I would think that this side is the steering wheel side, if not I think the olive would not be able to seal on the tube....but I'm not sure.
Does the tube sits flush with the steering column or does it need to go deeper. And how far does it comes out at the bottom? The tube came in a box with the car..so for all I know I'm trying to fit a curtain rod into my steering box.

Thanks Foster, I'll have to find a plug of some sort to fill them. And Don, I never knew that TR's came with stainless steel bumpers! And with extra holes....

Hi Guys,
Was just looking at my new front bumper, and noticed that it has 6 holes, but I only need four for the mounting brackets, so what are those 2 smaller holes in the middle for?
Thanks,
Yves

Hi Guys,
Just took this cardboard air duct out of the box and I have no idea how to fit it on the car; Is it attached on the inner fenders or on the front nose section. And I do realize the importance of this section for proper cooling.
Thanks,
Yves

Hi Guys,
Almost ready to put the front fenders back on and my daughter, who really likes the TR, was hoping that she could "post" a message somewhere on the car. The reason being that maybe 30 some years from now, she might do another restoration on the car and the message will hopefully bring back some memories of old dad....
So to hell with the all original TR and original paint......mine has some sharpie coloring behind the front fender...and if the car ever gets stolen........I will be able to tell the cops what is written behind the fender!

Hi Guys,
I'm using the advanceautowire diagram to build my own wiring loom, but, it shows that the ground connection from the wiper motor goes to the wiper switch. Seems strange as the wiper motor itself is grounded. The haynes manual shows the power feed ( green) interupted by the switch. The haynes manual makes more sense to me, or am I missing something. And I'm not using the self park function, but again, that shouldn't matter......I think.
The Ignition switch that came with the car has 2 doubled up spade connectors, they are not marked so I really don't know which connector should be on the white wires( coming from start push button) and which one should be on the light switch.
Or, is this ignition switch not for a 3A.
Thanks,
Yves

Dave,
Seems like a good idea to run these pipes towards the carbs. Are they suppose to cool the carbs or to force cool air into the carbs? Any pics?

Hi Guys,
I want to fit a heat shield between carbs and manifold, but where do I fit it. Does it goes against the manifold with the insul .gaskets between heat shield and carbs or does it sit against the carbs with the insul. gasket between the heat shield and the manifold?
Or.....maybe it really doesn't matter.....
Thanks,
Yves

Hi guys,
I'm in the process of building my own wiring loom. On the diagram it shows two connections from the generator to the control box, one has a large spade connector on the generator and the other one has a smaller connector with a small nut.
My question.... goes the one with the large spade connector( yellow-green wire) on the F connection on the control box or is it the smaller( yellow) one. What is the size of the thicker wire?
Thanks,
Yves

Yes, that is what I was kinda thinking......machining it will be!
I'll check if the engine sits lower, that might be part of the problem.

HI Don,
Yes, I did use the original 3A hub extension. I was kinda thinking of putting that in the lathe and remove some metal, but I'll try mounting the fan backwards first.
Thanks,
Yves

Hi,
Just received my TR 6 yellow fan from TRF, fitted it on the 3A but when turning the engine over( By hand) the fan just touches the bottom of the radiator.
Radiator is mounted where it should be, so my question....anybody else had this problem or am I missing something here.
Thanks,
Yves

Hi guys,
On the top of the carbs float bowls there is a connection for the vent/overflow. Is this just a flexible piece of fuel hose and where does it goes? Does it just drain somewhere on the chassis? Are the two vent lines connected ?
Thanks,
Yves
Another problem: overheating

Qim,
Maybe you should check how accurate the temp gauge is. Use like a Fluke auto meter that can do temp readings and check how warm or cold that the car is really running. I had that problem with my old cooper s and discovered that the temp reading between C(old) and H(ot) was only 5 degrees.
So maybe it is running at the right temp without showing it on the gauge.
