  1. Hi Jonathan,

Yes, John Skinner can offer the H-Frame cover either in vinyl or leather depending upon how you're deciding to trim the car. The other option would be to contact TRGB who offer a trimming service for your original H-Frame via one of their local trimmers. I have seen the finished article and it had been done very well. I have fitted the leather 'John Skinner' cover to my car and although I got my trimmer to do the work he was very complimentary about the quality and fit of the materials provided. I was delighted with the finished result.

In terms of a contact adhesive I was recommended to use 'Alpha AF178' which if I recall I purchased from 'Woolies' via their website. This is contact adhesive in a tin but you can also purchase contact adhesive from the same source in an aerosol for larger areas.

I hope this may be useful.

  2. Hi Ken,

Thanks for the positive feedback which is always appreciated. The dash and door capping were supplied by Classic Dash who are based in High Wycombe and are actually finished in burr elm rather than the more readily available walnut. I was very happy with the service from the supplier and collected in person. It was great to be able to see some real craftsmen at work as they supply some rather more exotic marques as well as our trusty TR's. Probably best if you contact them for price and availability as I bought mine from them a few years ago now.

  3. I fully re-trimmed the interior of my TR6 with materials supplied by John Skinner and was delighted with the quality and service. Everything was made to order and fitted extremely well (according to my trimmer). I've attached a picture so hopefully you might find that helpful in making a decision for the interior of your TR.

  4. Hi Chris,

A good way of aligning the throttle bodies when you re-fit them is by using a long engineers steel rule played across the machined flats. This will give you a good start when you come to balance each of the throttle bodies with the flow meter.

As a matter of interest I have now replaced the Prestige under-slung linkage kit with an overhead type from RTR. I have found that the RTR kit provides much finer adjustment across each throttle body/ butterfly. As my car is a CR series I have also fitted the RTR cam mechanism which utilises part of the original mechanism. This provides a smoother and more progressive throttle opening avoiding the 'snap' that can sometimes be evident due to the higher vacuum created on the CR cars. The RTR kit is also necessary if you have fitted an extractor manifold I believe due to clearance issues.

hope this may be helpful and good luck setting your car up.

  5. The screen-washer bottle also benefits from a run through the dishwasher at the same time! As a suggestion you should also allow for a set of replacement lamp gaskets for when you re-fit as no doubt the ones in the car are probably past their best unless replaced recently.

  6. +1 for Classical Dash. I collected mine from them in person and was shown around the premises by some really friendly people. I chose the burr elm dash with matching door cappings and were really pleased with he quality and fit. Clearly this is very subjective but take a look at the attached image which I hope might be helpful to you.

  7. Hello Richard,

I have used Namrick and would agree with Nigel that it's best to replace with new. You might find it helpful to take a look at their website which shows you the entire range. You can also place your order on line which might also be convenient for you considering where they are based on the south Coast.

  8. Hi everyone,

My 73 CR TR6 was supplied new with the factory hard-top which is still fitted today. The car also has a blue mohair soft-top although rarely fitted as prefer the rarity and looks of the hard-top.

  9. Hi Rich,

Another option to consider is a leather cover for the dashboard H-Frame support. I bought one from John Skinner as part of a full interior re-trim kit. I must be honest and confess I got my local trimmer to do the H-Frame and the seats and was delighted with the results. I hope this will help your decision.

It is possible to have your CR bodies modified with CP shafts. This will allow you to fit an after-market CP throttle linkage kit either overhead or underslung depending upon which exhaust manifold you have fitted. I have this set-up fitted to my CR TR6 with the Revington CP throttle linkage. They also offer parts to allow you to connect the original 'double cam' throttle opening mechanism which will compensate for the sometimes 'snappy' throttle created by the higher vacuum from the CR cam. I have personally experienced difficulties setting all of this up which is probably due to me rather than the parts. I have my car booked in next week with Revington TR to hopefully sort the issues once and for all.

  11. John,

The solution was to extend the adjustment on the throttle control arms which allowed the cable to be connected correctly. I still have the 'ratchet' throttle issue which I believe is related to problems with the pedal rather than the throttle linkage.

    Regards, Peter

  12. Further to my earlier post I have uploaded a picture of the linkage with the throttle cable connected. The second picture shows how short the cable is in the footwell when you try and connect it to the pedal.

  13. Hello,

I'm having an ongoing challenge trying to get my CR PI Triumph TR6 engine controls working properly, specifically throttle linkage and accelerator cable. I'm now at point where I really have no further ideas as to what to do next so any help or advice would be appreciated.

I've spent today fitting a new Revington TR overhead throttle linkage kit which is now on the car. I've balanced the throttle bodies/ butterflies and they're all pulling equally at fast idle using a balancing gauge. I will adjust then ticker with the air-bleed valve when its all back together. So all looking positive so far I thought.

The problem is that when I connect the throttle cabe (either a CR or CP cable) it's simply too short to connect to the linkage even at the extreme of its adjustment. Obviously you can connect it but this means you have to open the throttle which of course isn't a solution. I've inspected the pedal assembly as I've read that this is a weak point. I can see no immediate signs of damage that would render the cable too short.

This really shouldn't be this difficult should it!! Both the CP (shorter) and CR cables I'm trying to use are brand new. Unfortunately I am unable to compare them to the cable that came out as that had stretched and was subsequently thrown away. The car was previously running on another after-market linkage (not very well) which is why I've switched to the Revington kit.

    Thanks for reading the post

  14. Hi Graham

You might like to get in touch with Matthew Eade at Nutley Sports & Classics who had this car in his stock for a while.

  15. I had success fitting the plastic moulded cover supplied by Moss. There's quite a bit of cutting required for all of the access and inspection covers but if you're patient you can achieve a good fit. I also replaced the rubber seal around the edges of the new cover which went on well with some quality trim contact adhesive. For good measure I also replaced all of the fastenings which hugely improved the heat soak into the cabin from the engine.

Hope this helps and good luck as its not the most pleasant of jobs due to the confined space.

  16. Good evening,

I have enjoyed a great drive today through West Sussex into Hampshire in my CR series TR6 having finally balanced the throttle bodies. Thank you for everyones advice previously on the forum in helping me to get this problem sorted.

I arrived home disappointed to discover a familiar problem with the throttle cable outer sheath pulling through the bulkhead. I have previously replaced the cable (twice) and fitted a cable tie and washer where the cable passes through the bulkhead in an effort to prevent the recurring problem. I'm wondering if anyone else has discovered a fix for this problem or indeed a supplier that can offer a decent quality fit for purpose throttle cable? Unfortunately having balanced the throttle bodies I am now only able to partially open the throttle due to the failed cable.

Thanks for reading the post and sharing your experiences or recommendations in terms of a solution. Surely someone must be able to offer a decent throttle cable that will last longer than a few hundred miles!!

  17. Good evening,

I have just spent a rather frustrating few hours this afternoon trying to set the butterflies on my 1973 CR series TR6. First a little background information; the car is fitted with the 'prestige' throttle linkage kit together with refurbished inlet manifolds (3,000 miles ago) and prior to me 'meddling' was running OK with the exception of a little hesitency at low revs. I took previous advice on the forum that the hesitancy could be as a result of the butterflies not being set correctly. To help me with the task I purchased a Dellorto carburretor balancing tool although in reality I think this may have confused me further. What sort of readings should I be looking to achieve from the balancing tool and at what point should I be looking too take readings? I have been working at idle although I suspect that providing the readings are roughly equal across each manifold this will make little difference. Happy to be corrected if I'm wrong here of course.

Firstly I have set each pair of butterflies to just 'grab' a cigarette paper with the throttle closed following previous advice on the forum. When I started the car (with the air-box removed) I was surprised that it fired happily with no choke and had a very high ticker even with the air-bleed valve fully closed. I assume this was because there was air flowing into the inlet manifolds with the throttle closed as I had set them partially open albeit only 2 thou (thickness of paper). Closing the air-bleed valve did not stall the engine so clearly this was not the correct set-up. I tried setting the butterflies firmly closed with no throttle but the car drove terribly and I had to have the air-bleed valve virtually fully open to achieve a reasonable tick over.

I would appreciate some simple step by step instructions to set and balance the butterflies as clearly this makes a significant difference as to how the car drives especially at low revs (so i'm told). In hindsight I wish I had left things alone as I have now rendered the car un-driveable which is a shame. Having said that it would be really great to be able to set the car up properly and get it running properly once again.

Thanks for reading my post and as always all suggestions and/or ideas are greatly appreciated.

    Best Regards, Peter

  18. Good evening,

Thanks for everyone's suggestions and replies to my original post. I'm please dot confirm that the 'JB Weld' seems to have done the trick although I have now run into problems setting up the butterflies properly on my car!! I have just placed another post on this matter so hopefully I may yet sort this issue out as well.

    Thanks again, Peter
