Sorry but I dont know how to post a link on ebay but this is for a pair of SUs for an MGB but it gives you a good idea of the quality of his work. He does the carbs, manifold and linkages and they come back better than new!
He did my SUs and manifold for my TR4 and they still look good 2 years on.
Can't remember his name but he's based in Wickford near Chelmsford in Essex
    Hope this helps
    Cheers

  2. Moe/AndrewP - I fully understand the safety importance of seatbelts which is precisely why I fitted them in an otherwise exempt vehicle. I have always worn seatbelts in all my cars.

I had been trying to sort out a small issue which required me making adjustments and then testing the result by going around my "block" slowly which is about 300 m on a minor public highway and jumping in and out of the car. Being very law abiding, I just wondered if when doing this, Mr Plod came along, whether I could be in trouble.

I now know the answer so thank you forumites for that.

In terms of my question of what constitutes "seat belts", that was pretty much tongue in cheek, so apologies if you missed that - I thought it might create an interesting debate on definitions, singular and plurals and application of law, but it hasn't. It wasn't supposed to be serious!

And Mick, a fireproof bulkhead is very much on my list of "to do's".

    cheers

  3. Thanks for comments so far - I should have thought of looking on the web to start with!

I'd quite like the flexibility of either/or without all the aggro of unbolting everything as necessary every time I changed my mind - I'm sure I've seen some seatbelt anchors with a fitting which clips over and hooks into an eyed mounting bolt - this was on a lap and diagonal set up as I recall - This didn't apply to socket end of the belt.

So if I removed the other side of the belt by unclipping it, could I argue I haven't got belts fitted, and hence not have to use them? Clutching at straws I know, but an interesting argument nevertheless.

As for the dog, it's a retriever which is a lot bigger than a JR but she loves sitting on the occasional rear seat and watching the world go by - ear licking is a constant hazard!! The car and the dog draw a lot of attention, hence I was worried that Mr Plod might have something to say - she does have a lead on, which is secured, just in case she is tempted to chase something but I accept that is going to do nothing in the case of an accident or heavy braking so I suppose I need to start looking for some anchorage points for a dog harness - then I suppose I'll have to get some goggles for her!

    cheers

  4. Hi all - my 1962 TR4 is exempt from having to have seatbelts, but I have now fitted some for peace of mind - does this mean I have to wear them at all times?

Secondly, and not wishing to hijack an earlier thread in the TR2/3forum but a little bit related, is it legal to carry a dog with the hood down but not strapped in?

    cheers

  5. That's a really different aerodynamic fin you have on the boot - I can't see that it will do a lot of good for stability but might make the steering a bit lighter - where did you get it and how does it fit......!! Will also go well with the oblong wheels!

    Made me smile

    Cheers

  6. Hi All - hopefully there are some photos here for you all to see some more detail - I still haven't sorted all my uploading issues out but I won't bore you with the detail.

The first photo is the only markings I can find on the seat and as you can see it is a pencil scrawl on the hardboard backing under the rear back squab.

Other observations are that the main seat frame incorporates what I suppose is a subframe of sorts, but the front mountings have clearly been cut off an existing seat frame ( they look to me like my TR4 mountings) and welded onto the frame - the cross tube at the back has also been welded on.

Lots of new clues so hopefully someone may now recognise it

    cheers

  7. I am having great difficulty uploading photos to a thread - please see my "Mystery Seat" thread under TR Technical Chat Forum and in particular the various postings yesterday concerning this issue.

After much searching this morning, I eventually found a content screen saying I had exceeded my upload limit - I hadn't bothered to look for this as I saw another screen which said I had only use 30% or thereabouts of my forum allowance - how confusing is that!

This would perhaps explain why I couldn't upload photos directly, but I can't see how it would explain my inability to download a link from photobucket - please see the threads for details.

I have left messages with TRRF personnel re this issue in the past 10 days , but to date no-one has got back to me - can anyone help me?

    cheers

    Rich

  8. Don - I 've tried all 4 URLs on the photobucket site and they all do the same and produce the same tiny folded page icon.

When I left click the URL and it says copied, I then go to my TRRF reply box and click on the download icon as you advise - this then brings up the box ( is this what you call the dialogue box?) which is empty, so I right click then paste and the url comes up in the box, and then I click on OK, and we are back to the tiny page icon.

I've seen this icon lots of times in other threads and I've never been able to make then do anything so is it something to do with my settings generally?

I've just about had enough! Email is sooo much easier than this!!!

    cheers

    Rich

  9. Don - I'm almost ready to give up - who designed these stupid things!

I can now get as far as left clicking on the album code and it says copied. I'm then going to the TRF and opening a "reply", then clicking on the photo download button you have described. This opens a box into which I then paste the "copied" URL - then press OK and a tiny little icon appears in the top left hand corner of the reply box which looks like a page/photo of a green hill with the corner turned down, and thats all.

If I left click on this icon, it turns blue but nothing else happens. If I double click on it, it takes me back to the box I copied the URL into, and the URL is there, but nothing else happens . HEEEELP ?!!!!

    cheers

  10. Photos are best -- and a user-friendly piece o' cake -- if you host them someplace and use a link to display them here. Copy the URL from your hosting service (Photobucket, Flickr, paid services like SmugMug (the one I use and can highly recommend) into the dialog that opens using the photo icon on the message toolbar, and you're good to go.

Hosting the image on the TRR website has many limitations, as you've noted.

Don - getting their slowly - have now set up a photobucket account and have got an album of the seat photos - but now I'm stumped. Where do I find " the dialog that opens using the photo icon on the message toolbar". Also to copy the URL from my photobucket album, do I right click on the album and "copy link address" - sorry to be such an idiot!

    cheers

    Rich

  11. Don - thank you for the advice but to an IT ignoramus like me, it's all double dutch - I don't even know what an "URL" is! Isn't that someone with a title in the House of Lords?

I will have to get some training but in the meantime, we clearly can post photos as people do, and indeed I have as well in the past, so it would be interesting to know why I now can't.

Thanks for the explanation re my "points" - I thought maybe I had been a naughty boy and being going too fast over the threads!

    cheers

  12. Hi all - have now had a chance to take some better photos but I just don't seem to be able to upload them - I have resized the photos to be only 30% of the original but it keeps saying " Error This upload failed" in a pink coloured and red edged box above where it says " Attach Files" in the reply screen.

In the sentence after the box "Attach This File" at the bottom of the screen it says "You can upload up to Uploading is not allowed of files ( Max. single file size:8MB)" . The middle words "Uploading is not allowed" is in heavy type.

I am not a regular contributor, but I recently put a post in "BuySell" and was able to upload 5 photos - subsequently I have only been able to upload a max of 1 photo, if any at all - what am I doing wrong ?

I have got 5 or 6 photos which will really help to identify this seat but this is so frustrating!

Finally, why is there a caption next to my ID on the screen which says " 0 warning points" - I don't see this on anyone else's ID .

This is such a user unfriendly forum!

    cheers

    Rich

  13. Kevin - finally managed to upload photos if this helps. Having re-read your response, I slightly confused as to whether you want reverse rims or non reverse rims! Mine are definitely reverse rims so please let me know if you are interested in these.

    cheers

    Rich

  14. Kevin - I have 4 number 4.5J x 10 which are Dunlop LP 918s - as far as I know, these are the reverse rim Cooper S wheels - they have 9 small circular holes and the offset is clearly on the outside of the wheel.

The 5th wheel is not a cooper S wheel but a standard 3.5J mini wheel ( a 21A 881) - I'm trying to upload some photos but the forum is refusing to allow me to upload - I have resized the photos and they are well within tolerance - if you like PM me your email address and I'll email the photos

    cheers

    Rich

  15. Hi all - in case anyone is interested, and possibly for future reference, I got the tyre removed so can measure it accurately - they are 4.5Js - the overall width is 5 3/8" (measured with a tape so not totally accurate for you engineering boys!).

If anyone is interested, I have a set of 4 ( 3 with tyres fit only for the scrapheap) and an ordinairy 3.5J standard mini wheel and tyre, which I am looking to sell - will also put separate ad in "Buy &Sell"

    cheers Rich

  16. Guys - looking for some more advice, this time re measurement of wheel widths - I know you measure to the inside face of each rim bead, but you can't do this if there is a tyre fitted - apart from removing the tyre, is there a typical depth I can use for the depth from the inside of the rim bead to the outside furthest edge of the bead - and is it normally the same measurement on the inside and outside bead?

In this case I am talking about a set of steel Cooper S reverse rims ( LP918) I have with tyres on - apart from the afore mentioned identification, I can find no other marks on the wheels.

Having measured the overall width with the tyre on, and taken off for the tyre overhang of the rim, I have calculated the outside to outside width of the wheel to be a knats whisker under 5 .5 inches - from what I can gather 5" R/Rims are quite rare and hence more valuable than 4.5 inch, but I don't know which I have!

Anyone got any ideas - they will be for sale if anyone is interested

    cheers

    Rich

  17. Mike - it doesn't have any holes in the top for a headrest mounting - also the sides aren't nearly as deep as the various bucket seats mentioned earlier.

I will try and take some more detailed photos in the near future.

    cheers

    Rich

  18. Don - I'm afraid I can't remember and I'm not going to be able to have a look for a while - I have a side profile photo but I just can't see how to resize it to fit on here!

Bear with me and we'll get there eventually !!

    cheers

    Rich

  19. Ian - the points you make about discrepancies from standard tolerances can be valid but in the case of a gearbox tunnel, I don't think they are.

As far as one can be, I am pretty certain the bulkhead and floor pans in my 4 are original - also, as far as I am aware, the bulkhead opening for the gearbox tunnel is a single pressing so the circumference of the opening cannot possibly change - that is the measurement which was so clearly wrong.

Has anybody found a reproduction tunnel which fits?

    cheers

    Rich ( the gaffa tape!)
