  1. I don't know if this helps.

It apears that the decision on what is curtilage is down to the local planning department. I suspect that once it has been decided it might be difficult to get it changed.

In difficult planning situations my experience has been that you need to:

    1) consult the planning department to see if they are reasonably supportive - including their heritage specialist. If you have an informal contact that can help.

    2) get your local councillor(s) on side - if relevant both the parish/local council and the unitary authority or whoever has the planning committee.

    3) have the neighbours support if at all possible. If the neighbours dont like it, they can wind up the planners and the councillors.

    Best wishes

  2. Can you get Private Eye interested? Instances where politicians and public servants underperform are their meat and drink. Their medical correspondent M.D. (aka Dr Phil Hammond) believes in Vitamin D and has a very good column.

  3. It's not really related to heat pumps and ufh, but I found a modern thermostat Honeywell CM900 with a solid state temperature sensor and a P&I control scheme made a significant improvement to my heating system.

Its predecessor was a bimetallic strip thermostat with a 3 or 4 degree dead band and a simple on-off control scheme, and the time lags in the system added significant overshoots and undershoots to the dead band, so you really noticed the high and low points in the temperature cycles.

For goodness sake, the bloke's won 7 World Championships and more F1 races than anyone else ever. Celebrate him for his sporting achievements, best car or not. He is brilliant at what he does regularly beating his team mates in similar machinery. Well done to him, I say. Absolutely deserved, you'll not convince me any differently.

He doesn’t spend enough time in the uk to be taxed here significantly.

David Richards, chairman of Motorsport UK, said "Hamilton is subject to withholding tax at source [being taxed at source] in nine countries around the world and files tax returns in four of the nine countries" and added that HM Revenue and Customs' 2019 figures put him "within the top 5,000 highest UK income tax payers".

  6. A pleasant trip out in the late afternoon as the sunset, over to the Old Sodbury crossroads on the A46, and a few miles north before heading back through Little Badminton and Badminton proper back to Burton. Very pleasant - even better having had Robsport put in a new heater matrix and pipes. It will make it much more pleasant to use it in the forthcoming winter months. Many thanks to Robsport for sorting this.

  7. As with many things, the MOT is not perfect particularly since it has to address such a wide range of cars.  Nevertheless the best is the enemy of the good, so it is stupid to turn up one's nose at the MOT unless someone is offering something better to put in its place. Many of us in the register do not have the expertise or the equipment to do better than the MOT, and have no access to something better. So for those of us an MOT from a testing station with experience with classic cars is a no brainer.

  8. Re likes and dislikes.

I tend to share the view that people who have views should take the trouble to post, even if it's a minimalist +1 post supporting a previous post.

If your view hasn't been expressed in previous posts, then if it is spelt out, even just briefly, forum members can understand your position even if they do not agree.

Now that the originator of this thread has, effectively, withdrawn the topic I'm going to remove the posts that refer to it, but leave the questions/answers about Moderator posts/reputation points.

Let me know if you object!
