Bob Thanks
YES good and bright.
Redoing the earth connection sorted it out all bright and even.

I received a package of LED's from Bob last week and fitted following his instructions yesterday all working apart from one side at the rear is less bright.
I think it is probably due to a poor earth connection which I will remedy. The existing contacts and holders were in poor condition and needed cleaning and fettling to make good contact.
Thank you to Bob for his skill and ingenuity to provide members with these conversions.

Thanks all for your advice. I have asked Bob to supply the necessary bits and pieces.

I am looking to upgrade the rear lights on my TR2 which is positive earth. I would like to keep the original layout although the centre single brake light may not be the best idea. Can you get orange indicators I have seen some advertised.
I will send Bob a PM for details.

I recently took off the Dynamo as the front pedestal was loose and required a bit of work with oval holes etc. Once you have unbolted it it will come out through the front after removing the horn and radiator stay.
Better to check out the electrics first.

I think the car used to turn up at the Lakes weekend in the 1990s. I remember speaking to the driver.
I was amazed to see such a historic car used on club events.

I wish I had known that 30 years ago it would have saved a lot of pain particularly when the hood is cold and stiff.
I am going to alter the webbing on the hoodsticks.

I ran the bomb starters in my TR2 for years but when they failed the replacement reproduction sleeves with bonded rubber failed a number of times in not many miles.
To save the effort replacing the starter often. I installed an HT starter which turns the engine over quicker and has been fine apart from it does not sound the same.
I would recommend an HT starter.

Looks great very shiny and a bit like the weather here today.
I was out in my TR2 in Perth and had to put the roof up for the first time in about 2 years.
By the time I got home lights , heater and wipers the battery gave up oh the joys of a dynamo in slow traffic.

If you take out the 2 bolts that fix the trunnion bracket to the chassis and all the other fixings it should slide out if not rusted solid.
That is what the manual says and how I remember it.

I have always had the front apron and bumper removed to take the column out.
I think you can leave the bumper on it pulls straight out from memory.

Is there not normally a rubber bung to remove it could be under the carpet.

Could the ride height at the rear be wrong as it can affect the stability as can incorrect assembly.
But it is more likely to be the tracking
When set up correctly the cars are stable in normal use on wires or steel wheels.

Have most of us not made that mistake I know I did about 30 years ago

Oh dear Ralph
Screen wash could foam up and wont have corrosion inhibiters in it the Anti freeze would.
Short term no harm but you will need to drain the lot out and refill to remove the doubt from your mind.

Happy new year.
It was the time scale that shocked me 9 to 10 weeks.
But the weather has been cold and contiounously damp for much of that time.
The fuel was much more cloudy whenI first saw it in the fuel bowl.
The picture was about 3 hours later after I had got some fresh petrol.
Unfortunately without getting under the car that was all the petrol I could liberate.
I will make sure I fill up with E5 and use inhibitor next year.
I did change the rubber pipework and seals last year so it should be fine.

Following on from using E10 petrol I parked up my TR2 in Late October with say a gallon of E 10 in the that intending to fill up with E5 before winter.
However wet weather discouraged me from taking the car out.
I started the car today say 9 weeks later and it died.
No petrol the pic attached is the remaining fuel very cloudy. I think this shows leaving E10 fuel in the tank for too long is not good. Have topped up with E5 and used and an additive for corrosion protection.
Incedently the car ran very well on the E10 petrol when used most days.

Has the car got Drum brakes.
I had problems with replacement shoes bedding in.
The linings were too thick and caused the brakes to grab.

I too have been suffering from poor fuel consumption about 24MPG in mixed running my TR2 87mm pistons, a low port head with 1.5 mm SU carbs which I have recently rebuilt.
It was about the same before I rebuilt the carbs and replaced all the rubber and seals for ones that should be Ok with E10 fuel. It was a rather disappointing result.
I then made further investigations, replaced a failed vacuum advance unit and reset the timing a bit more advanced. the result was 31 MPG over similar mixed running including the heat wave which was very hot for the east coast of Scotland.
The timing and advance curve must have a more significant affect on the MPG than I believed.
I have now filled up with E10 and will see how it goes over the next couple of tanks of fuel.

Flexolite do them and also have remarkably cheap fuel pumps cheaper than the diaphragm.
their website noted. I should add I have not used one as I got it as a spare.

Well all thats given me food for thought.
I will not be looking at the cheap £30 pound replacements but order an ADR electronic unit with screw terminals so as it looks correct.
Many Thanks to you all for your advice.

Thanks for the reply
My experience of the Lucas control boxes on cars during the 1970's and early 1980's was they were not too good so I think I will look for an electronic one but which one?
Has any one had experience of the replacement units recently.

What is the best option to replace a comtrol box recondition or electronic.
My Tr2 has had a made in Japan control box for over 30 years.
It has been reliable but a corroded connection has melted the base
I have done a temporary solder repair but see there are many options. I have an RB 106 control box but it does not work.
I run a dynamo and it is positive earth.
Thanks in anticipation

Welcome to hours of fun with a TR working on them and driving.
You will also need an accelerator pedal and linkage.
They are fairly easy to copy and fabricate if you cant get one from other sources.

FUEL PIPE

Glad you said that Stuart I was thinking I have been wrong all these years.
I use up to date ethanol resistant rubber pipework for the SU supply plumbing.
I have updated the pipes at regular intervals over the years.
