TR Action 296 South Downs Group Social Scene - February 2017

Ian and Hugh report -

The Netherfield and Chailey pre-Christmas club nights were well attended and Xmas nibbles were enjoyed by all. Free food is always a great attraction, and, combined with a happy gaggle of TR enthusiasts and a roaring fire, what more could you want? Our Awards Lunch on the 15th Jan was as popular as ever, with nearly 40 folk present. Good food, good company and an excellent raffle organised by Graham. The Bear looked after us well as usual. Martin received an award for most club night attendances in a TR, braving the elements under unsavoury conditions at times. John Hopkins got the award for most event attendances in a TR, well done John. Graham is clubman of year for his sterling efforts both on and off the committee. Derek Hunnisett received the awards for best presented TR and for winning the summer BBQ driving challenge. Awards also to Steve James for his PI talks, and Fearghal Tucker for his enlightening Ebola talk.

Remember club nights are last Thursday of the month at the White Hart Inn, Netherfield, and 2nd Tuesday of each month at the Horns Lodge, Chailey. Both the March meetings will feature a talk by Derek on the workings of the SU carburettor, everything you ever wanted to know! On Sunday 23rd April SDG are hosting the South East Region group "Drive It Day", when scores of TRs will converge on the award-winning gardens and parkland at Borde Hill, RH16 1XP, from 11am. Cost is only £7 per car on the day (including driver and passengers). We have obtained permission to park within the grounds directly in front of the main house, so this should make for some excellent photo opportunities. The possibility of a visit to Tangmere Aviation Museum on Sunday 14th May, with a run before and a pub lunch after, has been mooted... details yet to be confirmed. On the 8th June the SDG continental trip will have Bayeux firmly in its sights. Details for a 4 or 5 night stay and ferry crossings are outlined on our website. The arrangements for our traditional Autumn Getaway are yet to be finalised, but Ross-on-Wye over 29th September to 2nd October is looking likely.

Also we wish a warm welcome to new member Kevin Ceurvorst who joined us recently. See http://www.southdowns-trs.org.uk/events17.htm for more info, and watch the year's plans unfold as details of shows we will attend and runs we will do are put up on the site.
