TR Action 292 Report by Steve Packard

As I write this article looking out of the window I think a boat might be a better idea than a TR it's turning into a rather poor summer weather wise unfortunately. It hasn't damped our spirits at the club night though and June saw a very strong turnout as usual at the Darleston Inn Stone on what was one of the best evenings of the year very warm and sunny.

The evening of the 9th June was also very kind being dry, warm and sunny almost to the last for the annual Wharf all marques meeting. This event as most of you will know is normally organised and run by Simon Beresford so there was more than a tinge of sadness in the air – there was a fantastic turnout of some 551 cars of which 420 were classics – in addition £1100 was raised for Sarcoma UK. The two best Triumphs in show were Simons TR4 he ran for over 40 years and his TR3a also. Thanks to everyone from the Shropshire and Stoke Groups for all of their sterling work in organising and running the event and collecting all of the donations. Thanks also to the 24th (Market Drayton) Squadron of the Air Training Corps for their help in parking up spectators cars.

Over the weekend of 10-12th June the Shropshire and Stoke Groups had a stand at Cholmondeley Power & Speed. A total of 19 cars attended to watch supercars, old and new, attack the circuit in the grounds of Cholmondeley Castle. Among those was Shropshire Group member, David Higgs with his "works" TR7V8 rally car. This car has been built to works specification using an original works shell and a John Eales built engine.

On 18th June one or two of us made it along to the Clwyd Classic Car Sow near Oswestry on the Welsh boarder and it was a very good day with lots to do and see and some excellent bargains to be had on the parts stands. Perhaps we should encourage a few more members to attend next year.

19th June saw us all at Trentham Gardens for the very large all marques show there. We had a joint Stoke/Shropshire stand and everyone enjoyed the cars and gardens and the girls especially enjoyed the retail therapy nearby!

July is another busy one including the IWE so watch this space!
