Farming Yesteryear 2022
Farming Yesteryear and Vintage Rally at Scone Palace Parklands was held on the 11th of September 2022 by kind permission of The Earl of Mansfield. This show was our last car show of the season. The Sunday morning was dry for our arrival. The grass had been cut on Saturday by Roy and the gazebo setup by members of the group in preparation for the Sunday. There was plenty to view: car club stands, trade stands, classic cars, tractors and agricultural equipment, and military vehicles. We had an excellent display of a dozen TR`s with members traveling great distances to support the club. Unfortunately, by late afternoon the heavens opened, and we all had to shelter in the gazebo. Getting out of Scone is always a major issue so over the years we have had a BBQ to get the rally field cleared before leaving. Well done Duncan and Steve for the BBQ and organising the event.
Grantown on Spey run 2022
The members met up at Gloagburn Farm Shop and Café for our breakfast. After our superb breakfast we visited Stanley Mills run by Historic Scotland. This gave us the opportunity to explore the mill buildings to discover the many changes that took place over 200 years and get an insight into the lives of the mill workers mostly women and children. For 200 years, this spectacular mill harnessed the power of the River Tay to produce textiles. Built in the 1780s, the mill complex was altered many times to keep up with the industry’s changing demands, before it finally closed in 1989. On leaving the mill we made our way north to Grantown on Spey via Glenshee with a stop in Tomintoul for a break. The roads and scenery were stunning with the autumn colours and this is always a fantastic run. Once we got booked into the Grant Arms Hotel we met up for drinks and a chat. Later we have a lovely three course meal with plenty to eat and drink. On Sunday after our cooked breakfast, we had a quick look round the farmer’s market. Finally, in heavy rain, we packed up and had a drive to the Rali Café by Kingussie for a cuppie and a snack before heading home. Many thanks to Steve and Duncan for organising our weekend.

Visitors can come and admire the display of over 1,200 Veteran, Vintage and Classic Cars, Motorcycles, American Cars, Commercial, Agricultural and Military Vehicles on show. More information can be found on the BVAC website including details of how to enter a vehicle or have a stall at the event. Edward Maitland-Carew of Thirlestane Castle said: “We’re proud to be hosting this wonderful event at Thirlestane Castle. We’re honoured to be welcoming Sir Jackie to the venue, as well as raising funds and awareness for such a deserving cause. The opportunity to see Sir Jackie and his iconic cars, combined with a celebration of the BVAC show’s 50th year, live motorsport action and the showcase of Scotland’s best food, drink and other produce will make for a unique and memorable day out for the whole family.” The festival is held in aid of Race Against Dementia, the charity founded by Sir Jackie to raise money for research into prevention and treatment for dementia, a disease that affects 50 million people worldwide including his beloved wife, Helen.
Errol 2022
TR Register at the Tayside Classic Car Show Sunday 12th of June On Sunday the weather was bright and dry, but putting up the gazebo was a challenge in the wind. We had 17 entries ranging from a TR3 to a TR7 V8. Car of the show for me on our stand was Meason's 1969 TR6 which is the Autocar road test car and the first right hand drive built. Many had travelled from the Clyde Valley Group to support the event which gave everyone an opportunity for a TR catchup. There was also the bonus of the large car boot sale if you were fed up of looking at the various vehicles in the show field. The Club Stand had a lot of interest from club members visiting who where not showing their cars and the public. Mick Conway one of our group spend a long day doing the commentary in the show ring and did a brilliant job. The organisers of the show the Tayside Classic Car have donated £61,640.69 over the past 14 years from this show. This event is extremely well organised with plenty of marshals showing the entrants to their stands, making sure the visitors are supported and helped as required. Lastly thanks to Duncan Menzies for organising our event.
