Woodley Carnival 11th June 2022

This was the 60th Woodley Carnival. It has been held every year except in 2020 and 2021, due to Covid restrictions. For the first time, the actual Carnival procession did not take place, due to problems getting lorries. Hopefully, it will take place in future years.

To add to the display of classic and vintage cars, six cars from KVG attended, a TR4, two TR4a’s, a TR6 and two Stags. There were also 3 cars from Windsor Forest Group, TR2, TR6, and a Spitfire. The local Stag Owners Club group leader Ian Barlow and his wife Wendy came with their Stag. A good turnout of 10 Triumph cars.

There were lots of stalls raising money for local charities and good causes, children’s activities, a fun fair, and food stalls. The entertainment arena had displays of acrobatics, dancing, a choir, a local theatre company and bands playing, and there was also a dog show, photographic display and flower show. Our ladies bought raffle tickets to try to win a flower arrangement. At the draw later in the afternoon, they were delighted when Maureen Howatt, Wendy Douthwaite and Wendy Barlow all won lovely displays.

Of great interest to petrol heads was a WW2 Merlin engine mounted on a trailer, which was fired up on the hour throughout the afternoon. There was also a fly-by of a Hawker Hurricane.

It was a very enjoyable show, helped by the good weather.

We received a very nice Email from Bill Bonney who co-ordinated the car entries on behalf of the Hants and Berks Motor Club. He thanked us for putting on a great display of the Triumph Marque.

Think about joining us next year. It is a very enjoyable day out.
