Kennet Valley Social Scene - 279

Stewart Highnett writes:

Having been a member for just a few years I found myself being seconded onto the KVG committee. Eddie Mace being the prime mover in this exercise, whilst I helped him set up the projector at one of the meetings. Eddie has been fronting the monthly meetings with great success since our leader Phil Horsley became ill. As winter draws in the local car shows reduce rapidly, with some cars being wrapped up for the winter or as in my case prepared for a major suspension overhaul, springs, shocks, poly bushes etc. With some members going south for late holidays, Richard Roberts took the helm for the November meeting. We welcomed two new members to the meeting, Chris and Kerry Myatt from Basingstoke who own a TR4 IRS.

To embellish Richard Roberts' report last month, (sorry Richard, the sumps off) the Shalbourne car show was a resounding success at the newly agreed sports fields site. The weather was excellent with a high turnout of visitors and around 250 vehicle owners. Vehicles ranged from fire engines to army vehicles to all makes of cars and motorbikes including a great turnout of KVG TRs, Sport Sixs and other Triumphs.

The second car show in Thatcham this year at Dunston Park in October was held during the Thatcham festival fortnight. The showers held off until late and it was a great success, raising money for the Macmillan cancer charity. KVG members Phil Horsley, Eddie Mace and Ian Howatt were in attendance. Ian owns a white TR4 which is in excellent condition, and has had a mention in the Classic and Sports car magazine recently, sadly without a picture, so I have attached a picture to this article.
